A vast and growing wildfire, one of several burning in the Texas Panhandle, has now become the largest on record in the state’s history, according to state figures on Thursday. The fire has scorched more than a million acres of land, devastating cattle ranches, consuming homes and continuing to rage out of control. One rancher, Jeff Chisum, described walking with surviving calves past the charred remains of adult cows scattered along a road. “It’s hard to watch,” said Mr. Chisum, whose ranch north of the town of Pampa and directly in the path of the fire ignited on Monday. It was only 3 percent contained on Thursday morning, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

A quick internet search led me to pursue my dream bucket-list trip at Havasupai Falls. The first step in the journey was securing reservationsThe first part of planning my trip was securing permits to visit Havasupai Falls. We crossed the bridge one by one and ventured on until we got our first jaw-dropping look at the cascading Havasu Falls. We consoled each other by swearing that we'd be back again to see Havasupai Falls, a place we'd fallen hopelessly and insatiably in love with.

Ron DeSantis is taking a victory lap amid his ongoing public feud with Disney and taunting the company's litigation efforts. A year ago, the Republican governor signed a bill to nullify Disney's special district. The former Reedy Creek Improvement District, established in 1967, gave the company full regulatory control over Disney World and government services such as fire protection, emergency services and infrastructure. "There were people pointing out and saying 'oh, people in Central Florida are gonna pay higher taxes, the sky's gonna fall,'" DeSantis said. DeSantis posted a video on X earlier Tuesday claiming that the dissolution of the special district saved Florida taxpayers millions.

Monday’s Supreme Court showdown in NetChoice v. Paxton and Moody v. NetChoice will determine whether states can forbid social media companies from blocking or removing user content that goes against platform rules. The Florida and Texas laws are broadly written, but officials from both states say the laws will keep social media sites from unfairly silencing conservatives. Social media platforms have insisted for years that they don’t discriminate against right-wing speech. It also allows individual social media users to sue platforms if they believe they have been unfairly censored or “deplatformed.”Florida Gov. Over the last two years, my 12-year-old son has become increasingly consumed with going to the woods near our home. But just like many other tweens, he's also asked, "Can you get me a cellphone?" We bought him a pocket knife. He mostly keeps the knife in his pocket when he heads outdoors, only bringing it out when a project calls for a sharp object. As for the pocket knife, when it's not in use or at the bottom of his camo pants pocket, it stays safely displayed in his bedroom, a token of independence and ingenuity.

LOISABA CONSERVANCY, Kenya (AP) — Conservationists in Kenya are celebrating as rhinos were returned to a grassy plateau that hasn't seen them in decades. The rhinos were taken from three parks that are becoming overcrowded to the private Loisaba Conservancy, where herds were wiped out by poaching decades ago. Kenya now has around 1,000 black rhinos, the third biggest population behind South Africa and Namibia. There are just over 6,400 wild black rhinos left in the world, all of them in Africa, according to the Save the Rhino organization. As Florida has no capital gains tax, CNBC calculated that Bezos would save around $600 billion in taxes compared to if he sold the shares while based in Seattle. Washington state passed a new law imposing a 7% capital gains tax on sales of stocks or bonds worth more than $250,000, which went into effect in 2022.

Alabama is one of few states without a state lottery, after lawmakers in 1999 rejected a proposal to allow one. The gambling bill, now backed by Republican Gov. Supporters pitched the bill as a means to crack down on small electronic gambling machines that have cropped up in convenience stores and small gambling halls. The controversial bill to enact absentee ballot restrictions would make it a misdemeanor to deliver someone else's absentee completed ballot or distribute an absentee ballot application prefilled with someone else's name. Supporters say the change is needed to combat voter fraud, but opponents say it would discourage voting by absentee ballot.

Washington, DC CNN —Americans are living through the toughest housing market in a generation and, for some young people, the quintessential dream of owning a home is slipping away. Mortgage rates surged in recent years, hitting the highest levels in more than two decades last fall. CNN spoke with some young Americans about their thoughts on the current state of the US housing market and their plans for the future. “The housing market is not a single person’s market.”What typically happens when a regional housing market becomes too unaffordable is that people without the means simply move somewhere cheaper, such as a suburb an hour away, for example. Still, affordability takes into account mortgage rates, family incomes and single-family home prices, which remain a vexing pain point.

Sea otters eat constantly and one of their favorite snacks is the striped shore crab. Researchers found that the return of the crab-eating sea otters to a tidal estuary near Monterey, California, helped curb erosion. Hunting bans and habitat restoration efforts helped sea otters recover some of their former range. For the new study, researchers analyzed historic erosion rates dating back to the 1930s to assess the impact of sea otters' return. Other research has shown that sea otters help kelp forests regrow by controlling the number of sea urchins that munch kelp.

No modern president has been as visceral about Washington as Trump – and his contempt offers insight into his politics and his character. Washington’s marbled monuments have also been the been the backdrop for some of the most notorious moments of Trump’s political career and have highlighted his autocratic leanings.
