Chris Sununu has been supportive of the idea of a No Labels presidential ticket in 2024. The governor answered reporter questions during an impromptu gaggle before the No Labels event. “They are going to try,” he said of No Labels. The organization held its campaign-style event Monday in the Granite State, which has been the host of the first-in-the-nation primary since 1920. They know this is where the conversation is gonna be and they want to be part of this,” Sununu said.

Earlier Tuesday, DeSantis said that Trump “could’ve come out more forcefully” to stop the insurrection on January 6, 2021. DeSantis told Tapper on Tuesday that he has the resources to compete in the face of reports from over the weekend about his financial position. About 90 people were on the DeSantis campaign payroll during the second quarter. Over the weekend, a spokesperson for DeSantis’ campaign confirmed to CNN it let go of some staffers, after Politico reported that “fewer than 10 staffers” in event planning were cut on Thursday. “I would respect everybody, but what I wouldn’t do is turn society upside down to be able to accommodate, which is a very, very small percentage of the population,” DeSantis told CNN.

The West Virginia Democrat’s model has served him well with repeated statewide wins in one of the most conservative pro-Trump states in the nation. For now, Manchin’s noncommittal answers are worrying some of his Democratic colleagues. Polls show that both Biden and Trump, the front-runner for the GOP nomination, are unpopular. It argues, therefore, that 79 electoral votes are potentially at risk for Biden from the involvement of a third-party challenger. Such a challenger would also need to win states where Biden won big, and at least some conservative bastions.

The rocks beneath an ancient volcano on the moon’s far side remain surprisingly warm, scientists have revealed using data from orbiting Chinese spacecraft. They point to a large slab of granite that solidified from magma in the geological plumbing beneath what is known as the Compton-Belkovich Volcanic Complex. “I would say we’re putting the nail in the coffin of this really is a volcanic feature,” said Matthew Siegler, a scientist at the Planetary Science Institute, headquartered in Tucson, Ariz., and who led the research. “But then what’s interesting is, it’s a very Earth-like volcanic feature.”The findings, which appeared last week in the journal Nature, help explain what happened long ago beneath an odd part of the moon. The study also highlights the scientific potential of data gathered by China’s space program, and how researchers in the United States have to circumvent obstacles to use that data.

Opinion: Biden has a Kennedy problem

CNN —President Joe Biden might have a Kennedy problem. There are many reasons Kennedy might cause trouble for Biden. At the end of last year, Biden switched the Democratic primary schedule to put South Carolina first. As a result, Biden might not even appear on the New Hampshire ballot, effectively ceding the state to Kennedy and author and speaker Marianne Williamson. Many of Biden’s 2020 supporters are frustrated with the president, and any attacks Kennedy will unleash could damage Biden and provide a foundation for Republicans to go after him in the campaign.

Joe Biden visited South Carolina on Thursday to tout his economic plan. Biden wants South Carolina to lead off the 2024 primary race, but implementing his plan has been anything but easy. Biden aimed to be the first Democrat since George McGovern to cast sweeping changes to how the Democratic Party elects a president. New Hampshire, the state that prides itself on picking presidents through its first-in-the-nation primary, would be tied for second. In their place, South Carolina would jump from its first-in-the-south primary to leading off the entire calendar.

Pairing a steel resolve with his fabled metal hip, the 36-year-old was allowing British tennis fans to dream. Middle-aged men in well-tailored suits jumped to their feet, revealing flamboyant cufflinks as they pumped their fists to celebrate winning shots. Women clapped hands above their heads, beseeching Murray -- the man who, a decade ago, had ended the 77-year wait for a British Wimbledon champion -- to finish off his youthful rival and write another chapter. Disappointment drenched the arena, tempered with admiration for the Scottish warrior who has done so much for British tennis. When asked how confident he was that he would be competing at Wimbledon next year, Murray said: "I don't know.

There was so very little to choose between the two combatants in the opening set – just two points separated them, Murray winning 37 points and Tsitsipas 39. One of his 21 clean winners in that opening set came to punch through Murray’s defences for a 4-3 lead in the tiebreak. Two points later he held three set points at 6-3, and converted on his first by out-manoeuvring the Scot to take a one-set lead after just shy of an hour’s play. It was one he would not relinquish and at 10:38pm he fired a service that Tsitsipas could only return long. Tsitsipas stalked off court while Murray collected his bag and the crowd roared their appreciation as the night-time clash ended on a cliff-hanger.

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson named Carlos Cardona as her new campaign manager on Friday — her third campaign manager since she launched her bid for the presidency in March. “We’re going to spend some serious time in New Hampshire,” Cardona told NBC News. Cardona ran for a New Hampshire state House seat in both 2018 and 2020 but fell short in both elections. “Bernie Sanders won in New Hampshire, progressives win in New Hampshire,” Cardona said. As for Williamson’s unusually high turnover at the top of her campaign, Cardona says his predecessors left the campaign due to personal reasons.

Seeing the North Star year-round through a hole drilled at eye level in the now-destroyed Georgia Guidestones monument in the United States is not proof that the Earth is flat, even though a video online has made that claim. In July 2022, the Georgia Guidestones, a granite monument erected in 1980 in rural Georgia that some called “America’s Stonehenge,” was torn down by authorities after being heavily vandalized (here). The position of Polaris does not prove that the Earth is stationary or flat. NASA says Polaris sits “more or less directly above Earth’s north pole along our planet’s rotational axis” (here). Being able to see Polaris through a hole drilled at eye level in the now-destroyed Georgia Guidestones monument is not proof that the Earth is flat.

[1/5] A visitor walks past the sculpture "Felipe II" by artist Pompeo Leon at the Gallery of Royal Collections in Madrid, Spain, June 29, 2023. REUTERS/Juan MedinaMADRID, June 29 (Reuters) - Madrid opened a long-awaited multi-million-dollar gallery on Thursday, bringing hundreds of masterpieces from the royal collection, including works by Caravaggio, Velazquez and Goya, under one roof. A third of the exhibits - themselves just a fraction of the total collection - will continue to move between those institutions, officials said. "The museum is born with the vocation of being a cultural and tourist key point in Madrid, Spain and Europe," Ana de la Cueva, head of National Heritage, the state-owned organization that manages the royal collection, told reporters. She said officials hoped the museum would persuade tourists to extend their stay in the city by at least one day, boosting revenues.

Ron DeSantis of Florida are set to hold dueling events on Tuesday in New Hampshire, but from vastly different political positions: one as the dominant front-runner in the state, the other still seeking his footing. Mr. Trump sees the first primary contest in New Hampshire as an early chance to clear the crowded field of rivals. And members of Team DeSantis — some of whom watched from losing sidelines, as Mr. Trump romped through the Granite State in 2016 on his way to the nomination — hope New Hampshire will be the primary that winnows the Republican field to two. “Iowa’s cornfields used to be where campaigns were killed off, and now New Hampshire is where campaigns go to die,” said Jeff Roe, who runs Mr. DeSantis’s super PAC, Never Back Down. Mr. Roe retains agonizing memories from 2016, when he ran the presidential campaign of the last man standing against Mr. Trump: Senator Ted Cruz of Texas.

There are just three works, among the 650 on display, signed by female artists, Leticia Ruiz, director of the Royal Collections, told CNN via phone. Luisa Roldan's 1692 sculpture “Saint Michael the Archangel Defeating the Devil (El Arcángel San Miguel venciendo al demonio)" will be on display for the first time at the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid, Spain. The exhibit starts with the Hapsburg monarchs’ royal collections — located near the old city wall exhibit — and then one level below, the Bourbon dynasty collections. On a floor below that are the temporary exhibitions, which start with carriages from the Royal Collections and some on loan from other institutions, Ruiz said. A third of the museum’s 650 items will be rotated annually back to the royal palaces and other Patrimonio sites and replaced with other items from their collections.

57,000-year-old engravings on the walls of a French cave may have been the work of Neanderthals. The oldest Neanderthal cave engravingsThe markings are made up of lines, squiggles, and dots, likely made by fingers instead of tools. On the left are some curved lines and on the right are more wavy lines that researchers say were made by Neanderthals. Tim Schoon, University of IowaThough early researchers considered Neanderthals less advanced than humans, more recent findings have complicated that view. In 2018, researchers estimated a group of Spanish cave paintings were 65,000 years old and made by Neanderthals.

HAVANA, June 10 (Reuters) - When the U.S. embassy in Havana reopened last May to Cubans seeking visas after a nearly five-year hiatus, the once proud 1950s vintage building was in shambles. A new income-driven repayment optionThe Biden administration is working to roll out a new, more affordable repayment plan for student loan borrowers. Instead of paying 10% of their discretionary income a month, under the new program — the Revised Pay as You Earn Repayment Plan — borrowers would be required to pay 5% of their discretionary income toward their undergraduate student loans. Previously, a borrower who made $40,000 a year would have a monthly student loan payment of around $151. Similarly, someone who earned $90,000 a year could see their monthly payments shrink to $238 from $568, Kantrowitz said. The payment plan should become available by July 2024, he said, although, "it is possible that the changes could be implemented earlier, as the U.S. Department of Education has the flexibility to implement regulatory changes sooner in certain circumstances."

And yet, the Grand Canyon remains yoked to the present in one key respect. The Colorado River, whose wild energy incised the canyon over millions of years, is in crisis. Down beneath the tourist lodges and shops selling keychains and incense, past windswept arroyos and brown valleys speckled with agave, juniper and sagebrush, the rocks of the Grand Canyon seem untethered from time. The Grand Canyon is a planetary spectacle like none other — one that also happens to host a river that 40 million people rely on for water and power. At Mile 0 of the Grand Canyon, the river is running at around 7,000 cubic feet per second, rising toward 9,000 — not the lowest flows on record, but far from the highest.
