One highlight was the high-flying acrobatics show that I still can't believe happened on a cruise ship. The kids' club was a massive perk, tooAs befitting the grand scale of this ship, Wonder of the Seas' kids' club was far more than just a themed room with a babysitter. My little one loved the kids' club so much that she begged for more time there whenever we went to pick her up. CNN —For some young people, a popular method for getting a quick high is by misusing laughing gas — and lately, that’s in the form of nitrous oxide from products sold by the company Galaxy Gas. (It’s worth noting that some social media videos tagged “Galaxy Gas” depict nitrous oxide products from other brands.) The unlawful misuse of nitrous oxide products poses serious health hazards, said a Galaxy Gas spokesperson in a statement. “Galaxy Gas products are for responsible culinary use only, and we are deeply concerned about the recent news reports and social media posts of individuals illegally misusing our products,” the company spokesperson added. Other risks include brain damage, anemia, nerve damage, paralysis, vitamin B12 deficiency and nitrous oxide dependency.

Users also “lacked any meaningful control over how personal information was used for AI-fueled systems” on the companies’ platforms, according to the report. The report includes staff recommendations calling for federal privacy legislation, as well as more efforts from companies to prioritize privacy in their data collection and recommendation systems. "Protecting users – especially children and teens – requires clear baseline protections that apply across the board," the FTC said in the report. The privacy of children and teens were not adequately protected on these social media platforms and streaming services, according to the report. However, children and teens are known to be on social media, and the FTC wrote that companies "should not ignore this reality."

When Netflix released a rundown of its most-watched movies and TV shows for the first half of the year on Thursday, its TV rankings offered few surprises. (Netflix bases the data on hours viewed for every title — original and licensed — that was watched for over 50,000 hours.) That robust landing page has allowed Netflix to eschew spending tens of millions of dollars promoting many of its original films. AP —A Philadelphia teenager who authorities say wanted to travel overseas and make bombs for terrorist organizations will be tried as an adult. Prosecutors say Abdul-Rahman conducted at least 12 tests on homemade bombs near his family’s home before he was arrested and was close to being able to detonate devices with a blast radius of several hundred yards. Law enforcement began investigating Abdul-Rahman after they received electronic communications between him and terrorist groups in Syria, prosecutors said. The communications indicated that Abdul-Rahman wanted to become a bombmaker for these groups, identified as Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad (KTJ) and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham (HTS). As the investigation into Abdul-Rahman continued, authorities learned he was buying military and tactical gear as well as materials that could be used in homemade bombs, prosecutors said.

But there may be more of a science to eldest daughters than meets the eye. When a mother needed help, biology caused her eldest daughter to step up and mature faster to provide that help. Most striking of all, maternal distress was not found to speed up adrenal puberty in sons or younger daughters. "I have a closer relationship with her, to this day, than I do with many of my other older siblings," he said. His wife grew up as part of a similarly large brood — and her eldest sister had a similar experience.

But, on Wednesday, Listenbee said, Abdul-Rahman had not only made bombs, but he had considered placing bombs in trashcans along the route of last year’s Philadelphia Pride March and intended to move to Syria in the hopes of becoming a bomb-maker for a terrorist group. “He wanted to leave America and go to Syria an join a terrorist group. Also seized at that time, Listenbee said, were two phones, and on them, he claims officials discovered “frightening searches” including focused searches on the Philadelphia Pride March. “He was at least considering targeting the LGBT community and the Pride parade,” Listenbee said. Officials said Abdul-Rahman has not entered a plea.

The feature, called Teen Accounts, is meant to address the harm social media can do to young peoples' mental health. This is a good first step, says Dr. Shannon Bennett, associate director of the center for youth mental health at NewYork-Presbyterian. "The opportunity cost while using social media is sleep or in-person socialization," she says. Experts agree the new features might net positive changes, but say its really too early to tell. In his best-selling book "The Anxious Generation" NYU social psychologist Johnathan Haidt also cited social media and smartphones as a major cause of youth loneliness.

Many around the world won’t be placed into teen accounts until next year, according to a Meta fact sheet. The accounts will have the Hidden Words feature on, as well, meaning offensive words or phrases should be automatically filtered from any comments or direct messages they receive. Meta might also be able to trace teens who use different devices to create adult accounts if they, for example, register with their original teen accounts’ same email addresses or phone numbers.

Instagram will automatically apply the new “teen accounts” settings to all users under the age of 18. The revision will allow teen users to receive messages only from people they are already connected to. The shift limits the types of “sensitive” content teens can see on their Explore page and in Reels, such as posts promoting cosmetic procedures. Teen users will also receive time limit reminders nudging them to leave after spending 1 hour on the app each day. The company says it is implementing artificial intelligence technology that will aim to identify teen accounts that may have wrongly listed an adult birthdate.

The teen settings will automatically apply to newly made accounts and existing ones. Teen Accounts will have "Sleep Mode" enabled by default. For younger teens, parents can see who their children direct message with — but won't be able to read their DMs. Accounts of 16- and 17-year-olds will automatically default to Teen Accounts, but they'll be able to change the settings on their own (unless a parent has already signed onto parental controls).
