Mr. Trump is widely regarded around the world as a transactional leader. Chinese officials do see a potential upside if Mr. Trump pulls the United States back from its role as a global leader. But the Kremlin seems skeptical that Mr. Trump would actually push for such a deal, especially because of his track record: There was jubilation in Moscow when Mr. Trump won in 2016, but over the next four years, U.S. sanctions against Russia only increased, and Mr. Trump sent antitank weapons to Ukraine. On Wednesday, he quickly made clear that he would seek to have Mr. Trump on his side, as one of the first world leaders to congratulate Mr. Trump in a post on X. Mr. Trump has been effective in demanding more military spending from fellow NATO members, said Mr. Heisbourg.

Just a 25-minute drive east from the city center is Gokarna Forest Resort, a five-star luxury retreat and golf course embedded within 470 acres of protected sanctuary jungle, sheltering a rich array of wildlife. Though a golf course had been present since 1999, the development saw it blossom into the undulating 6,755 yard, 18-hole setup that sits as the crown jewel of the resort today. “The uniqueness of the golf course is what really inspires me, and I have been to at least 200 or 250 golf courses around the world. SYDNEY, Australia — The Pacific Island nation of Palau, important to the U.S. military amid tensions with China, and among a dozen allies of Taiwan, holds a national election for president on Tuesday. The U.S. military is constructing an over-the-horizon radar on Palau, scheduled to be completed in 2026. To counter the fall in Chinese tourist arrivals, Palau has opened direct flights to Japan and Australia, with support from those governments. Tax reform has emerged as an election issue, with Remengesau’s campaign arguing that big business is not paying enough, and pledging tax incentives for small businesses. During the election campaign, Remengesau said that Palau needs to “ensure that foreign influences do not overshadow our identity or compromise our independence.”His campaign did not respond to questions on which foreign influence he was referring to.

CNN —Several non-credible bomb threats that briefly disrupted voting at two Georgia polling places originated from Russia, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told reporters Tuesday. “Anything that can get us to fight amongst ourselves - they can count that as a victory.”Raffensperger, a Republican, did not elaborate on how exactly state officials determined the bomb threats came from Russia. The non-credible threats caused the temporary closure of polling places at the Etris Community Center and Gullatt Elementary in Union City, just outside of Atlanta, according to Fulton County Police. An officer told him and other voters they couldn’t enter the site to vote because of a bomb threat. “They had to remove all the workers, they couldn’t let anyone in until they assessed the threats,” said Osborne.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, kicking off Election Day in one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference. By tradition, all eligible voters gather at the now-dormant Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch to cast their secret ballots once polls open at midnight. Once every ballot is cast, votes are tallied and results announced – hours before anywhere else, making it a destination for national reporters, who often outnumber the voters. Why social media shouldn’t be your therapist

Her book “Over the Influence: Why Social Media Is Toxic for Women and Girls — And How We Can Take It Back” was recently published by Alcove Press. It’s easy to see why: There’s a shortage of mental health providers, and it’s often expensive and difficult to get an appointment, whereas social media is at everyone’s fingertips. But it’s generally not a good idea to try to diagnose your problems on social media. Misleading posts and misdiagnosesSelf-help posts on social media often serve up simple solutions to complex problems. That’s why experts said answers are likelier to be found on an old-fashioned therapist’s sofa than social media.

Some 4.74 million Chinese couples registered their marriages in the first three quarters of 2024, a decrease of 16.6% from the 5.69 million recorded in the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Friday. A rebound in marriages last year after stringent Covid restrictions were lifted appears to be an anomaly largely driven by pent-up demand. Many are postponing marriage and childbirth – and a growing number of young people even choose to eschew them entirely. The stubborn downward trend is also a result of changing attitudes to marriage, especially among young women who are becoming more educated and financially independent. In the first nine months of this year, some 1.96 million couples registered for divorces, a slight decline of 6,000 year-on-year, according to data from the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

These homes, often abandoned and left empty for decades, are scattered across rural areas and big cities, offering a unique opportunity for buyers with creative ideas. Urban migration is another big contributing factor to Japan's abandoned houses. Ultimately, "many Japanese [people] look at akiya as depreciating items that are more trouble than they're worth," Michael, founder of Japan real estate blog Cheap Houses Japan, told CNBC Make It.
