As the storm took shape over the Great Lakes on Thursday, a weather phenomenon known as a bomb cyclone was likely to develop from a "rapidly deepening low-pressure" system, the National Weather Service (NWS) said. The United States is also the leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter, where growth is expected to soar in coming years. But the United States consumes 20 million barrels of crude a day, the most in the world, and its output has never exceeded 13 million bpd. Last month, U.S. government data showed net U.S. crude oil imports fell to 1.1 million barrels per day (bpd), the lowest since record keeping began in 2001. To become a net exporter of crude, the United States needs either to boost production or curtail consumption. The U.S. exported an average of 3.1 million bpd of fuels through September this year, EIA data showed, down from the 3.2 million bpd in the same period in 2019.

Cheniere is one of only two LNG providers with turbines subject to the rule, according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data. He asked the state for 18 months to make changes to and retest the turbines. In the meantime, the company said it would take steps to minimize formaldehyde emissions, including taking a turbine offline or replacing components. In September, Cheniere submitted test results to Texas regulators that showed formaldehyde emissions at that facility were well below the EPA threshold. Cheniere has big plans to expand the Texas and Louisiana plants in coming years.

Coterra, which formed a year ago through the merger of Cimarex Energy and Cabot Oil & Gas, said proved reserves on its books will drop roughly 15% to 20% year-over-year at December 31, 2022. The decline was driven by a roughly 32% to 36% decline to gas reserves in its Marcellus shale properties in the Eastern United States that came with the Cabot acquisition. Rival U.S. shale oil producer EOG Resources said oilfield costs could increase by 10% next year, on top of a 7% increase in 2022, as inflation continues to snarl the energy industry. EOG, which this week announced it had extended operations into Ohio, said it will maintain low single-digit oil production growth next year.
