The outlook for solar panel company Sunrun is more uncertain in 2023, according to Barclays. Analyst Christine Cho downgraded shares to equal weight from overweight, and lowered her price target, citing the likelihood for weaker demand ahead for U.S. residential solar energy. Sunrun shares are higher by more than 8% in 2023, after underperforming the previous two years. The analyst's $35 price target, dropped from $44, still implies more than 34% upside from Tuesday's closing price of $26.09. Separately, the analyst downgraded shares of SunPower to underweight from overweight, and lowered her price target to $18 from $26.

SEOUL, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Iran and South Korea summoned each other's envoys in a deepening spat over comments by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol that described the Islamic republic as the enemy of the United Arab Emirates. Yoon, speaking to South Korean troops stationed in Abu Dhabi earlier this week, said South Korea and the UAE are under "very similar" circumstances, each facing North Korea and Iran as "the enemy, biggest threat." Relations between Seoul and Tehran had already been testy over frozen Iranian funds in South Korea and suspected arms dealings between Iran and North Korea. Iran has repeatedly demanded the release of some $7 billion of its funds frozen in South Korean banks under U.S. sanctions. South Korea was once one of Iran's biggest crude buyers in Asia, but ceased imports after Washington imposed sanctions on Tehran in 2018.

It came after Amazon said in November it was looking to cut staff, including in its devices and recruiting organizations. The company had 2,450 employees, according to PitchBook data, suggesting around 490 employees were laid off. For decades doctors have been telling their patients that high levels of HDL, otherwise known as “good cholesterol,” could protect them from heart disease. But a new study suggests that having a lot of so-called good cholesterol doesn’t mean a lower risk of heart attacks. The new findings surprised the researchers, who originally designed their study to understand how cholesterol levels in Black and white middle-aged adults without heart disease affected their future risks. Previous research on "good" cholesterol and heart disease consisted of mostly white adults. Low HDL levels were associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease in white participants, but not Black participants.

CNN —South Korean authorities are investigating the crowd surge that killed at least 154 partygoers in Seoul, as the rattled nation attempts to come to terms with one of its worst-ever disasters. Nearly all of the victims – at least 150 – have been identified; police told CNN. Three South Korean military personnel were also among those killed, a Korean defense ministry official told CNN. The South Korean government has set a national mourning period starting until the end of November 5, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo said in a briefing. Civil servants and employees of public institutions will wear ribbons to express their condolences during the mourning period, Han said.
