Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has denied that the U.S. was investigating its dealings with Chinese tech company Huawei, following reports that its chips were found in the Shenzhen-based firm's products. Tech-focused publication The Information had reported last week that the Commerce Department was probing whether TSMC had been making AI or smartphone chips for Huawei, in violation of U.S. export rules. We are not aware of TSMC being the subject of any investigation at this time," the TSMC spokesperson added. TSMC, which is the world's largest contract chip manufacturer, said that it has not supplied chips to Huawei since mid-September 2020. Citing anonymous sources, the report claimed the discovery was made after tech research firm TechInsights took apart a Huawei product and found a TSMC chip as part of its multi-chip system.

Taiwan’s defense ministry said in a statement that those exercises were part of routine Chinese training and were being closely monitored. “No matter how large the scale of the drill is, they should not be frequent and close to Taiwan,” he said. CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday said some investors are missing market opportunities because they are too focused on what the Federal Reserve will do next when it comes to interest rates. "I'm not saying the stock market will never go down when the Fed's easing," he said. But Blackstone reported an impressive quarter, and the stock reached a new all-time high, up more than 6% by the close. He also referenced the turbulence this week in the semiconductor space — triggered by a bad quarter from Dutch chipmaker ASML on Tuesday — saying investors' Fed worries may have scared them out of expensive stocks. "Everyone who's obsessed with the Fed's next foray is basically investing with blinders on, and as a result, they're missing out on some of the greatest moves I've ever seen in my life," Cramer said.

The new high bested a previous record of $140.76, which was set on June 20. Shares of Nvidia rose to a new record on Thursday as investors piled back in to the artificial intelligence trade that had stalled a bit since the summer. The stock rose more than 3% at one point to briefly tap a new intraday high of $140.89. Nvidia's intraday record comes after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company , the world's largest chip producer, beat third-quarter earnings estimates and posted a 54% increase in profit. Nvidia stock hit a closing high of $138.07 earlier in the week, topping its prior record of $135.58 set on June 18.
