With Election Day upon us, many investors are wondering how to, or if they even should, position their stock portfolios ahead of knowing who the next president will be. Indecision will hurt the stock market, not destroy it, but bruise it because the only thing markets really hate is uncertainty." Jim also wrote Sunday that the stock market will more than likely be just fine no matter who wins the presidency. Bottom line A quick and decisive presidential election outcome — one way or the other — is what's best for the stock market. Combination with Former President and Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump (L), and Vice President and Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris.

ArizonaThe Arizona Abortion Access Act would enshrine the right to an abortion in the state constitution up to fetal viability, around 22 to 24 weeks into pregnancy. Abortion rights supporters say the moment served as a stark reminder of what could come if reproductive rights aren’t enshrined in the state constitution. ColoradoThe Colorado Right to Abortion and Health Insurance Coverage Initiative would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and approve the use of public funds for abortion. In Nevada, an amendment must be passed in two successive general elections before it can be added to the state constitution. While proponents have focused on abortion rights, opponents have used the measure’s broad nature to raise concerns about transgender and parental issues.

Activist Irenic Capital Management said Tuesday that it would back fellow dissident Starboard Value's push to dissolve the dual-class structure at Rupert Murdoch's News Corp , ahead of a closely watched shareholder meeting. Irenic wrote in its Tuesday letter to News Corp's board that while it opposed the dual-class structure, it remained supportive of management's efforts to "unlock immediate value." Irenic also wrote it believes the Murdoch family and other super-voting shareholders should be paid a premium if a conversion to a single-share structure happened. A vote to dissolve the dual-class structure at News Corp nearly a decade ago failed, although it was supported by 90% of non-Murdoch shareholders. The Murdoch family controls roughly 40% of the vote through a family trust and the supervoting Class B shares, making governance changes tough.

CNN —Several non-credible bomb threats that briefly disrupted voting at two Georgia polling places originated from Russia, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger told reporters Tuesday. “Anything that can get us to fight amongst ourselves - they can count that as a victory.”Raffensperger, a Republican, did not elaborate on how exactly state officials determined the bomb threats came from Russia. The non-credible threats caused the temporary closure of polling places at the Etris Community Center and Gullatt Elementary in Union City, just outside of Atlanta, according to Fulton County Police. An officer told him and other voters they couldn’t enter the site to vote because of a bomb threat. “They had to remove all the workers, they couldn’t let anyone in until they assessed the threats,” said Osborne.

Major players like Musk and Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman have previously endorsed former President Trump. "Once every vote is counted and certified, we must accept the results of the election and ensure the peaceful transition of power," he said. In addition to re-posting several pro-Trump messages from other X users, Musk wrote a few election-related posts of his own.

Election officials across the US – particularly in swing states – have pledged to uphold the integrity of the vote and urged voters not to be misled by conspiracy theories. “Here in Georgia, it is easy to vote and hard to cheat,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Monday. He has alleged that voting by noncitizens is a widespread problem, that there’s no verification for overseas or military ballots, that election officials are using early voting to commit fraud and that massive swaths of mail-in ballots are illegitimate. However, supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris are far more confident, with 90% saying the election will be run smoothly, compared to 57% of Trump supporters. Harris supporters are also more confident than Trump supporters that it will be clear who won the election after all the votes are counted, by an 85% to 58% split.

Election Day is here. Voters are heading to the polls Tuesday to cast their ballots in a historic presidential race that could profoundly change the country and the world. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s nominee, is hoping to shatter a nearly 250-year-old glass ceiling to become the nation’s first-ever female president. Former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee who lost in 2020, is trying to become just the second defeated president in history to win a nonconsecutive term. More than 77.5 million Americans voted before Election Day, either by mail or through early in-person voting.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have tied with three votes each in the tiny New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, kicking off Election Day in one of the first places in the country to report its presidential preference. By tradition, all eligible voters gather at the now-dormant Balsams Hotel in Dixville Notch to cast their secret ballots once polls open at midnight. Once every ballot is cast, votes are tallied and results announced – hours before anywhere else, making it a destination for national reporters, who often outnumber the voters. In January, four registered Republican voters and two independents participated in the GOP primary, casting six unanimous votes for former South Carolina Gov. Meta last week began blocking advertisers from creating or running new ads about US social issues, elections or politics across its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. But experts say that previous moves by social media companies — such as cutting their own internal safety teams — could undercut their current efforts. Former President Donald Trump and many of his supporters have already made repeated false claims that Democrats are cheating in the election. But since then, those companies have made cuts to those teams and walked back policies designed to restrict false claims about politics and elections. Last year, they said they would no longer remove false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

In Georgia, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution has invested heavily in statewide polling and stationed reporters across the city and state. “Months of reporting and listening have told us this: Georgia voters are largely dissatisfied with our country’s direction,” editor-in-chief Leroy Chapman Jr. said.

But her husband recently got a new job that pays more per hour and with lower health care costs. Her husband’s side gig has been “flourishing,” giving them steady monthly income and a glimpse of a future beyond waiting tables. Her monthly retirement income of around $7,600 is comfortable, but homeowners insurance, utilities and long-term care costs are weighing on her. Elon Musk’s posts on his social media platform X get far more attention when they cast doubt on the integrity of the electoral process, an NBC News analysis has found. The difference in reach was vast: 5.2 times more likes, 4.2 times more comments and 9.1 times more reposts, when comparing the median election-doubting post to the median election post that didn’t cast doubt on the process. In addition to owning X, Musk is its biggest account, with more than 202 million followers, according to the app’s tally of his following. But then there are voters who say former President Donald Trump lacks the character or demeanor a president should have. And some specifically panned the the racist and demeaning rhetoric from Trump allies at last week's rally at Madison Square Garden, criticizing them for alienating Americans instead of bringing them together. Other voters derisively mentioned Harris' laughter, called Trump more "transparent in what he's looking to do," and cited their support for Trump economic policies like tariffs and not taxing overtime pay. For the Harris supporters who briefly, seriously, considered Trump, the former president's tone and demeanor looms large. Again, a handful of voters brought up the rally comments about Puerto Ricans when voters describing something that made them view Trump more negatively.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to decide a thorny legal dispute from Louisiana involving the state's effort to draw a congressional district map while navigating claims it is unlawfully considering race. One lawsuit claimed that the state had to draw a map containing two majority Black districts to comply with the federal Voting Rights Act. A federal court struck the new map down, but with time running out to finalize the congressional districts before this year’s elections, state officials successfully asked the Supreme Court to put the lower court decision on hold in May. The Supreme Court has a 6-3 conservative majority that, in a surprising move, buttressed the federal Voting Rights Act in 2023 in another racial gerrymandering case involving the congressional map in Alabama. The court will hear oral arguments and issue a ruling in the Louisiana case during its current term, which ends in June.
