☆ Lucian Grainge Goes on the Offensive As AI Washes Over Music Industry

Grainge, the CEO of Universal Music Group, is going on offense when preparing the major label for an AI wave in music. For example, he's working with YouTube on its "music AI incubator," a program that brings together talent from Universal to gather insights for YouTube's generative AI research. He's setting up AI deals with Endel, SoundLabs, and BandLab. He's partnering with the AI attribution tool ProRata.ai to lay the groundwork to pay content owners for AI-generated materials. The executive also isn't afraid to go to battle over unauthorized generative AI, suing Anthropic and AI music platforms like Suno and Udio around training data, as well as publicly fighting for AI protections in licensing contracts with distributors like TikTok and Meta.

The S & P 500 suffered its first three-day decline since early September. Chief market technician Jonathan Krinsky noted a "decent probability" the broad market index could fall as much as 5% to roughly 5,500 in coming weeks. The S & P 500 has pulled back this week from record highs reached just Oct. 17. Krinsky pointed to the recent move higher in Treasury yields as the key catalyst. Elsewhere on Wall Street this morning, JPMorgan reiterated Live Nation with an overweight rating and raised a $137 price target, implying upside of more than 19%.

A person close to the campaign said that at this moment, having Clinton on the campaign trail might not be the most helpful move, since it needed to focus on its core messages. Chinese companies are aggressively developing autonomous vehicles. In August, China announced that it had issued 16,000 test licenses for driverless cars and opened up about 20,000 miles of roads nationwide for autonomous vehicle testing. But Chinese autonomous vehicle companies have also quietly been testing their technology on U.S. streets. Michael Dunne, CEO and founder of consulting firm Dunne Insights, told CNBC that China had "carte blanche" when it comes to testing AVs in California.
