And demand in China this summer has contracted compared with the prior year, according Struyven. These vehicles reduced oil demand in China by 500,000 barrels per day in the first half of 2024, according to Goldman. Oil demand for vehicles in China is expected to peak in 2025 as a consequence, decades ahead of other emerging market economies, according to Goldman. If demand in China remains flat, Brent prices could fall to $68 per barrel by the end of next year, according to the investment bank. While China is the furthest ahead, global gasoline demand is slowing as electric vehicles are adopted around the world.

U.S. crude oil prices traded close to a three-week high Tuesday, after rallying on Monday in anticipation of an attack by Iran against Israel that could play havoc with Mideast production and transportation. Here are Tuesday's energy prices:"These risks remain low-probability events, which helps explain the modest increase in prices," Gloystein wrote. But prices eased slightly Tuesday as a strike by Iran had not yet materialized. Rob Ginsberg, managing director at Wolfe Research, said U.S. crude could rise above a resistance level of $84 per barrel. "Once out, mid to high $90s isn't crazy," Ginsberg said.

Management blamed "higher interest rates and greater macroeconomic uncertainty" for pressuring consumer spending on home improvement projects. The recent data certainly supports the idea of a rate cut at the Fed's mid-September meeting. However, that's weeks away, we know things can turn on a dime in the data and the stock market. Lower rates can certainly impact the stock market — but when it comes to picking individual stocks, we remain focused on earnings. A cooling tower at the Constellation Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in Scriba, New York, US, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. Tech companies are increasingly looking to directly connect data centers to nuclear plants as they race to secure clean energy to power artificial intelligence, sparking resistance from some utilities over the potential impact on the electric grid. Data centers, the computer warehouses that run the Internet, in some cases now require a gigawatt or more of power, comparable to the average capacity of a nuclear reactor in the U.S. Tech companies are building out data centers just as power supply is increasingly constrained due to the retirement of coal plants and as demand is climbing from the expansion of domestic manufacturing and the electrification of vehicles. ’Tis the season for vacations, so let me make my pitch that the best travel is not lounging at a beach resort but rather journeying into a different world. So I preach both travel and prudence, and on a recent book tour, I found myself often asked about travel advice I had mentioned in my memoir. The most memorable travel often involves encountering something unfamiliar, so consider escaping the herds parading through Paris. A teenager from an affluent family in the New York or Boston areas would step into a different world by taking a ranch job in Wyoming. And this is the kind of travel that is not only affordable but actually pays for the experience.
