[1/5] A Palestinian Christian man Ehab Ayyad offers dates and water to Muslims held up in traffic or getting late for home to break their fast during Ramadan, in Gaza City April 12, 2023. For those unlucky enough to miss breaking the fast altogether as they stand in solid traffic, Ehab Ayyad is a welcome sight. The Christian man from Gaza offers dates and water to Muslims held up in traffic or late home to break their fast, in keeping with the Prophet's tradition. Five years ago, Ayyad began by offering neighbours dates and water, the first thing Muslims normally eat when they end their fast at sunset, and decided to make the offer general. "On our holidays, our Muslim neighbours come to visit and congratulate us, and we do the same on their holidays," Ayyad said.

[1/5] Young Palestinian men play football during the holy month of Ramadan, in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, March 31, 2023. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu MustafaRAFAH, Gaza Strip, April 5 (Reuters) - Soccer fans in the Gaza Strip gather to watch the specially organised Ramadan Popular League, a competition held every year in the Rafah refugee camp which is home to over 120,000 people in the southern part of the coastal enclave. "Every year during Ramadan month we come to watch this league, it brings us joy and happiness," said Issa Shaloula. "As players of clubs we come to these popular fields to please the crowds," said Ahmed El-Loulahy, who plays for Khadamat Rafah Club. "This ground is more popular than many other stadiums, it is a playground for refugees.
But the Scot said that he still had a lot to achieve despite playing with a partly metal hip. But I have ambitions of winning tournaments and having deep runs in majors, winning a certain number of matches in my career," Murray said. "I'd like to try to get to 800 match wins, which I think I'm like 75 (77) away from. Part of it is seeing how far I can go with the physical limitation I have." "So now that I know that I'm able to, I want to see how far that can go, because it's a challenge and something I'm proud of the results that I'm having with a large physical limitation."

The victory capped off a dominant campaign during which Swiatek recorded 6-0 6-1 wins over both Danielle Collins and Veronika Kudermetova and received a quarter-final bye, dropping just five games in three matches. It is Swiatek's first title of a year, and follows her shock fourth-round exit in the Australian Open at the hands of Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. "I feel like I found my rhythm here after a tough beginning to the season," said Swiatek, after claiming her 12th WTA singles title. Swiatek lent her support to the people in Ukraine following her win in the last edition of the tournament, and reiterated that message on Saturday. "I feel like we all have pretty short memories, but we should all support Ukraine and Ukrainians in everything they cope with every day," Swiatek said.
[1/4] A Palestinian man carries flowers in an agricultural greenhouse in Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip, February 12, 2023. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu MustafaGAZA, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Valentine's Day is considered un-Islamic by many of the 2.3 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip and business was slower than usual on Tuesday at those shops selling red roses, fluffy hearts and teddy bears. While Hamas doesn't prevent Valentine's Day commerce, some clerics have in the past roamed the streets, urging people and store owners to eschew what they deem a Western rite. Picking up a bouquet of her favourite flowers, Palestinian Nehaya Jarada said she was determined to enjoy the day nevertheless. "I still want to celebrate Valentine's Day, despite the wars we live through and the earthquake," she said.
[1/3] A Palestinian medical worker prepares a patient for an X-ray scan in Shifa hospital in Gaza City, January 5, 2023. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu MustafaGAZA, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Gaza's Health Ministry accused Israel on Thursday of delaying the entry of several X-ray machines needed to treat patients in the blockaded Palestinian territory. Dozens of other X-ray machines were allowed into the impoverished coastal enclave during the same period. Abbas said Israeli assertions about the medical equipment having dual uses were a lie. The ensuing blockade limiting the amount of goods crossing in and out has crippled Gaza's economy and health care system, which suffers from a chronic shortage of hospital beds and medical equipment.
The Atlas Lions made history as the first African team to reach a World Cup semifinal. They made history as the first all-female refereeing crew for a men's World Cup match. It was Morocco's first World Cup win since 1998 — and its third-ever at the tournament. Less spoken about is that they also rate better on television than the men do in the World Cup. We’ll just have to wait and see, though with the US, Canada and Mexico hosting the 2026 World Cup, soccer isn’t going away anytime soon.

REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu MustafaGAZA, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Cheaper, stronger, available and environmental - for Gaza chicken farmers seeking to deliver eggs unbroken, there is everything to like about trays made from recycled paper waste. Chicken-farm owner Mohammad Abu Mustafa said an advantage of Amour's product was its availability, as well as its price and quality. "The imported is weak but the local is strong," Abu Mustafa said. Palestinian volunteers participate in organising the sixth edition of the Red Carpet Film Festival, at a newly renovated theatre in Gaza City, October 13, 2022. While Gazans have been able to go to movie screenings which are held from time to time at theatres and other venues, such a full bill of films is a rare treat. The festival's executive manager, Montaser Al-Sabe said he was proud of the festival in Gaza but that he hoped cinemas would open up again. "Cinema is a civilised and important means to get the voice of children and the people of Gaza to the world." But for some, the festival will be all about the simple pleasure of going to the cinema and watching a movie with loved ones.
The match is the first to take place at the stadium, which will host the World Cup 2022 final. The civilians were told they had been called up to assist with the World Cup and that it was their "patriotic duty" to do so, the source said. Asked for comment, a Qatari government official said in a statement that Qatar's national service program would continue as normal during the World Cup. The diplomats are expected to return to their posts after the World Cup. World Cup organisers intend to relax Qatar's strict laws limiting the public sale of alcohol, and will allow beer to be served near stadiums a few hours before matches kick off.
GAZA, Sept 18 (Reuters) - An ornate Byzantine floor mosaic showing a variety of colourful birds and other animals has been discovered by chance in Gaza after a Palestinian farmer tried to plant new trees on his land. Trying to figure out why some trees had not properly taken root, Nabahin said he and his son began digging. 1/5 Palestinian farmer Salman al-Nabahin cleans a mosaic floor he discovered at his farm and which dates back to the Byzantine era, according to officials, in the central Gaza Strip September 18, 2022. REUTERS/Ibraheem Abu Mustafa Read MoreThe Palestinian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said the flooring included several mosaic panels depicting animals and other features of social life during the Byzantine era. But due to a lack of funds and relevant professionals, Gaza has usually invited international groups to help with the process of excavation and preservation.
