CNN —After the Los Angeles Rams claimed him off waivers Tuesday, quarterback Baker Mayfield got acclimated with his new teammates very quickly on Thursday as they hosted the Las Vegas Raiders. In a sensational introduction, Mayfield led the Rams back from a 16-3 deficit, capping the game off with a 98-yard drive in a two-minute drill situation – with no timeouts – to win 17-16. Several law firms adopted the Mansfield rule in 2017, which aims to increase diversity in leadership. It's effectively the NFL's two-decade-old Rooney rule: a requirement that nonwhite candidates be considered when teams hire for coaching and front-office jobs. Law firms followed professional football in 2017 with its version of the Rooney rule, called the Mansfield rule. At first, the Rooney rule seemed to catch on when teams started to hire more coaches of color and a dozen general managers of color when that position was added to the Rooney rule. "For the Rooney rule to work," he said, "there has to be a true commitment from the owners.

1 overall pick Baker Mayfield off waivers on Tuesday as the team looks to strengthen its quarterback room in the wake of recent injuries. The 27-year-old Mayfield was waived by the Carolina Panthers on Monday after a disappointing first season with the team. Just a day after he was waived, the struggling Rams picked up Mayfield, who had been taken as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. CNN —Deshaun Watson struggled on his return to NFL action on Sunday after serving an 11-game suspension following sexual misconduct allegations. After the victory, Watson admitted his long absence played a factor in his poor play on Sunday. Thomas Shea/USA TODAY Sports/ReutersSunday’s game was Watson’s first meaningful NFL action in two years. Watson runs onto the field with his team for the game against the Texans. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said afterwards that it’s all about getting game time for Watson at the moment.
CNN —Around 10 of the more than two dozen women who accused Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct were expected to attend his game in Houston on Sunday, according to their attorney. I was proud of them for that,” Tony Buzbee, the lawyer representing the accusers attending the game, told CNN in a statement. Makes me proud they want to stand up and be counted rather than quietly go away.”The NFL and the Cleveland Browns did not respond to CNN’s request for comment regarding the accusers’ attendance. We’re a huge football town, folks here have been lifelong fans of the Cleveland Browns,” Greene said. We believe that Deshaun Watson deserves a second chance.”The team’s “refusal to prioritize protecting women sends a disgusting message” to survivors of sexual assault, Nunes said.
When quarterback Deshaun Watson demanded a trade from the Houston Texans nearly two years ago, interested teams were faced with one of the most consistently uncomfortable problems in sports: weighing off-the-field ick against on-the-field value. The Cleveland Browns eventually decided that it wasn’t a difficult calculation at all. They not only traded three future first-round picks to acquire Watson, a player who had risen to superstardom in college at Clemson, they signed him to an unprecedented, fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract. In terms of dollars and draft capital, it is perhaps the most expensive deal in NFL history.
CNN —The issue of race and its historical legacy in the US was at the forefront of NBA star LeBron James’ mind on Wednesday as he asked reporters why he hadn’t received any questions about a photo of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attending a racial desegregation protest in 1957. “I got one question for you guys before you guys leave,” said James, speaking after the Los Angeles Lakers’ 128-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. “I was thinking when I was on my way over here, I was wondering why I haven’t gotten a question from you guys about the Jerry Jones photo. NBA star LeBron James has contrasted the media's interest in the 1957 photo with its coverage of Kyrie Irving and his recent suspension. “It seems like to me that whole Jerry Jones situation photo – and I know it was years and years ago and we all mistakes, I get it,” the 37-year-old James continued.
CNN —For the first time in two years, embattled quarterback Deshaun Watson returns to the field for the Cleveland Browns Sunday after serving an 11-game suspension. Watson has previously settled all but one of the sexual misconduct civil lawsuits against him. In October, a new civil suit was filed against Watson but the NFL said his status remains unchanged. The Browns will be playing Watson’s former team, the Houston Texans, Sunday. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Watson has the support of his teammates and the support of the Browns organization.

A massive snowstorm in Buffalo has caused the NFL to move Sunday's Bills and Browns game to Detroit. On Friday, the Bills shared photos of Highmark Stadium buried in snow. The Bills Mafia shared reaction to the announcement on Twitter and pitched in to help Bills players. By the next day, Highmark Stadium was buried in a thick blanket of snow. The team took to social media to share evidence of the storm, and their fans — known as the Bills Mafia — weren't pleased.
New York residents in Buffalo and other parts of the state are waking up Friday morning to heavy snowfall that officials warn could "paralyze" the hardest hit communities. This has led to an increase in lake effect snow, but that trend is not expected to last. A recent study used a regional climate model to investigate these changes in lake effect snow if our current rate of greenhouse gas emissions continues. By mid-century, the amount of seasonal lake effect snow is projected to increase modestly, as the Great Lakes will remain ice-free longer into the winter. Lake Effect Snow Warnings were in effect early Friday for the Buffalo area and downwind areas of Lake Ontario, the National Weather Service said.
As of Friday morning, Erie County, home to Buffalo, has seen three feet of snow in areas like Orchard Park, 33 inches of snow in Hamburg and about 19.5 inches in southeast Buffalo. The "historic" winter storm is bringing what is known as lake-effect snow, which occurs when arctic air races across the relatively milder waters of the Great Lakes. Kathy Hochul did the same for 11 counties in the western and the northwestern parts of the state near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Erie County issued a driving ban, including the southern part of Buffalo, according to a tweet from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. A recent study used a regional climate model to investigate these changes in lake-effect snow if the current rate of greenhouse gas emissions continues.

The squalls could persist through Sunday, creating sporadic bursts of intense snowfall along narrow bands that could amount to 4-1/2 feet (1.4 meters) of snow in some locations. Buffalo is New York state's second most populous city with some 278,000 residentsNearly 6,500 customers were without power in the Buffalo area as of Friday morning, according to Poweroutage.us. Although the winter season does not officially begin for another five weeks, the National Weather Service posted winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories and lake-effect snow warnings across all western New York areas downwind of the Great Lakes. While the storm was not expected to break weather records, weather service meteorologist Liz Jurkowski said it could rank in the top five snow accumulations over the last 20 years.

CNN —The Carolina Panthers’ dominance in their running game proved enough to hold off a late Atlanta Falcons comeback attempt on a rainy Thursday Night Football. Vance, the “Hillbilly Elegy” author who was a searing Donald Trump critic before converting into one of his most loyal allies, has defeated Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan in Ohio’s Senate race, NBC News projects. Portman’s prior success and Trump’s two comfortable Ohio victories made Ryan, 49, a heavy underdog. Polls from the summer and into early fall showed Ryan tied with Vance, though surveys in the closing weeks suggested Vance was pulling ahead. Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Tim Ryan speaks in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday. Vance, by contrast, had little money to counter Ryan’s ads and drew complaints from Ohio GOP leaders that he was coasting toward the general election.

CNN —Deshaun Watson is expected to start for the Cleveland Browns in the first game he is eligible to return from suspension, team general manager Andrew Berry said on Wednesday. Watson is eligible to return on December 4 against his former team, the Houston Texans on the road. The 27-year-old Watson returned to the team’s training facility on October 10 and has been able to participate in limited activities. Berry was extremely complimentary of Jacoby Brissett, who has been starting for the team in place of Watson this season. The Browns next scheduled game is on November 13 against the Dolphins in Miami.
