Investors now expect that the Fed will begin easing back rates in May or June, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. Before the Bell: What does the Fed’s signal that it won’t cut rates in March mean for markets? I think what’s important for the markets themselves is the fact that the Fed has signaled they’re going to cut rates. So, they’re going to cut rates at some point this year, probably May or June is going to be the first cut that we get. There’s a lot of areas where your earnings … start to reaccelerate higher, and that’s a good thing.

He also recommended researching retail stocks next week before the industry reports a slew of earnings results the week after. "Next week seems busy, but, you know what, it's a classic interregnum — Google that — before we get to retail earnings," Cramer said. On Monday, Cramer said he'll be waiting for earnings reports from two "scorchers," cloud networking outfit Arista Networks and Cadence Design Systems , which provides software for artificial intelligence hardware. Shopify reports on Tuesday, and Cramer said he's optimistic because online shopping seems to be booming.

The S & P 500 broke past 5,000 for the first time ever this week, but investors will see if the momentum can stick in the week ahead with more inflation data and earnings results on deck. On Friday, both the S & P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite were headed for their fifth straight week of gains, and their 14th winning week in 15. FactSet data shows S & P 500 earnings are tracking to have risen 2.8% in the fourth quarter, which would be a second straight quarter of earnings growth, and some expect that positive momentum will remain intact in the weeks ahead. A cooler-than-expected print has the potential to be greeted with enthusiasm, sending the S & P 500 even higher. The S & P 500 is up by 5% this year, with Nvidia higher by more than 40%.

Super Bowl Ads Ditch Politics for Celebs, Taylor Swift and AI

By Sheila Dang(Reuters) - Fans can expect celebrities and more lighthearted commercials, along with glimpses of Taylor Swift, during the Super Bowl on Sunday, as corporate advertisers avoid the recent practice of using the big game to promote social causes. While high-priced Super Bowl commercials often play for laughs in trying to make an impression, the flashy productions can also reflect the national mood. Budweiser in 2017 used the Super Bowl to depict Anheuser-Busch's founder making the journey from Germany to America in 1857, encountering xenophobia and discrimination along the way. NONPROFITS GET IN ON THE GAMEWhile corporations may steer clear of potentially divisive issues, at least two nonprofits have announced Super Bowl ads. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will air a tense anti-cheese commercial featuring actress Edie Falco and a mother cow in distress.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — New Jersey came to the West Coast to kick off Grammy Awards weekend, with native sons Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen teaming up. Bon Jovi hailed Springsteen as “my hero, my friend, my mentor” to a crowd of 2,000 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Instead of performing at the end of the evening as is traditional for the honoree, Bon Jovi got the nearly three-hour show going. Comedian Jim Gaffigan hosted and relentlessly mocked Bon Jovi for his big hair and penchant for wearing short-shorts in the 1980s. “Livin' On a Prayer” became an all-star finale, with Bon Jovi joined onstage by the other performers for a singalong.

New York CNN —A Super Bowl ad set to be shown during next month’s game will highlight the rise of antisemitism, with a 30-second spot from “Stand Up to Jewish Hate,” a campaign from the nonprofit organization founded by Robert Kraft, the billionaire businessman and owner of the New England Patriots. It’s the first time his Foundation to Combat Antisemitism (FCAS) is buying an ad during the “most visible platform,” which last year was watched by 113 million viewers and was the third most-watched television program of all time. According to FCAS research, 183 million posts on social media were related to antisemitism and Jewish culture in 2023 — a 330% increase from the prior year. Deutsche Bank is moving to the sidelines on shares of Netflix despite another solid quarter from the streaming giant. Analyst Bryan Kraft views the company as the "best story in media among the vertically integrated producers/programmers/distributors," but nevertheless downgraded Netflix to a hold rating. He said that its leadership position and good news look "fully priced" in to the stock already after its 65% runup in 2023. The downgrade from Deutsche Bank comes in the wake of another strong quarter from the dominant player in entertainment media . Netflix topped revenue estimates and added 13.1 million subscribers, easily topping the 8 million to 9 million additions expected by Wall Street analysts.
