For breakout pop star Chappell Roan, the journey to success has been full of twists, turns and detours. Roan, whose given name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, signed to Atlantic Records at age 17 after gaining popularity on YouTube. She released her debut EP "School Nights" in 2017 and, a year later, moved to Los Angeles from her hometown of Willard, Missouri. In April 2020, she released a song called "Pink Pony Club," inspired by a night at a gay club. Commercially, however, it underperformed Atlantic's expectations and the label released her, Roan told Pitchfork last year.

"When you invest in a jersey, that means you really appreciate that person, their character, and what they bring to the game," Krieger said. Sports Innovation Lab estimates the women's sports merchandise industry is worth $4 billion — conservatively. People simply don't know where to find merchandise — 32% of fans reported having an issue finding a seller for women's sports merchandise compared to just 18% of fans looking for men's, according to Sports Innovation Lab's 2024 Women's Sports Merchandise Survey. But while big brands are making strides in partnering with women's professional teams to create merchandise, the women's sports merch buying experience is still lacking. Building the women's game takes an ecosystem of collaboration involving fans, athletes, leagues, team sponsors, and retailers.

"Brat," along with viral hits like Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" and Tinashe's "Nasty," have ushered in a season of pleasure and levity — what my friends and I have been calling a "smooth brain summer." The primary lure of pop music has always been escapism. Indeed, we've lived in a pop world dominated by Taylor Swift and refashioned in her likeness for several years. These peculiar bops form the perfect foundation for a "smooth brain summer" soundtrack — though please note that doesn't mean they're devoid of value or meaning. An appetite (and a need) still exists for complex metaphors, history lessons, and personal revelations in pop music — but now is not the time.

Routing through ChinaChina Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom have long been in Washington's crosshairs. The FCC denied China Mobile's application to provide telephone service in 2019 and revoked China Telecom and China Unicom's licenses to do the same in 2021 and 2022 respectively. It cited at least nine instances where China Telecom misrouted internet traffic through China, putting it at risk of being intercepted, manipulated or blocked from reaching its intended destination. China Telecom has previously denied the government's allegations and told U.S. agencies that routing problems are common and occur on all networks. China Telecom did not respond to requests for comment about its U.S. based PoPs.

Trump will address a gathering of Christian conservatives Saturday afternoon in Washington, DC, before traveling to Philadelphia for a more traditional campaign rally in a key battleground. Trump’s campaign is relishing the juxtaposition of the two candidates’ preparation styles. “While Joe Biden’s advisors force him to hide away at Camp David for some much-needed rest, President Trump is keeping up with his busy campaign schedule,” Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said. The Biden campaign slammed Trump’s appearance at the Washington event as proof of where he stands on the issue. The Trump campaign has sought to drive a wedge between Biden and his birth state by hammering the president over inflation and crime.

And in an age where social media and streaming platforms have fragmented the cultural landscape, does the song of the summer even exist anymore? “It’s not like people were walking around in 1925 and saying, ‘You think that’s the summer song this year? New York Magazine’s 1995 Summer Fun issue devoted an article to examining the summer song as a unifying force — per the magazine, a summer song should be 1) released in the summer, 2) uncomplicated and 3) unforgettable. MTV’s Video Music Awards introduced a song of summer category in 2013, with One Direction’s “Best Song Ever” nabbing the inaugural award. CNN —Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” a diss track of fellow rapper Drake, has already been declared the “song of the summer” by some listeners who have been playing it on repeat. The song was released as part of a recent rap battle between Lamar and Drake that saw the two hip-hop artists releasing diss tracks at a frantic pace in April. He was joined on stage by multiple West Coast stars, including legendary rapper/producer Dr. Dre and Los Angeles Clippers player Russell Westbrook. Lamar held the show at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum. As of Thursday morning, Drake had not yet responded on social media or with new music.

CNN —Armenia will leave a Russia-led military alliance, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan confirmed Wednesday, accusing members of the bloc of plotting with bitter rival Azerbaijan to start a war against them. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought two wars over the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region, which Azerbaijan reclaimed in full by force in September. Russia has traditionally allied with Armenia, but their relations have soured in recent months while Moscow’s ties to Azerbaijan have deepened.
