DETROIT — A lot has changed since General Motors' last investor day two years ago, but one thing that hasn't is the automaker's ability to outperform Wall Street's expectations — doing so every quarter since then. "Accordingly, whereas the theme for GM three years ago was "Growth Motors," we believe the theme today is "praGMatic Motors." To underscore that effort, the event is taking place GM's vehicle assembly and Ultium EV battery plants in Tennessee. Barra and other executives have stressed such a dual strategy since lowering or withdrawing nearly all of the company's EV targets amid slower than expected adoption of electric vehicles. "We are making the most of every opportunity we have in ICE and in EV and leveraging our core strengths," Barra said during the company's second-quarter investor call in July.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday explained why he's staying optimistic on Netflix , examining the bull and bear cases for the streamer by reviewing two recent analyst notes. Cramer compared reports from analysts at Barclays , who downgraded Netflix, and Piper Sandler , who upgraded the stock. According to the team at Barclays, Netflix may have trouble meeting its earnings goals, and the company's "growth algorithm will come with tradeoffs." And even if the streaming giant hits revenue targets, the analysts said Netflix's valuation assumes it can double its subscriber base, which "seems unrealistic." The analysts said Netflix can grow its subscriber base and has pricing power, adding that they're optimistic on the streamer's advertising potential.

Wall Street analysts made the wrong call on DuPont, but it may be welcome news for investors looking to buy the stock. DuPont stock, trading around $85 per share Monday, would have to fall at least another 6% to below $80 to interest us. "This stock could have a very good run into 2025 as it becomes clear that the three segments are worth far more than the current price," Jim said. The stimulus measures should have come far sooner, says Lun, but better late than never. Beijing has largely held back on unveiling fiscal measures, which can include the use of taxation or other measures to impact public spending. Another one trillion yuan may be set aside for recapitalizing banks or helping indebted local governments to issue bonds. Jia said China’s economy had expanded sufficiently since then to support the issuance of Treasury bond financing between four trillion to 10 trillion yuan. Any meaningful stimulus measures must tackle the problem of oversupply in the property market, experts said.

Paris, France Reuters —Fashion designer Hedi Slimane has left LVMH’s Celine brand, the company said on Wednesday, marking the latest high-profile departure from a fashion label as the industry grapples with a sales downturn. Rider, who will start his new job early next year, worked alongside former Celine designer Phoebe Philo at Celine for over a decade. Solca said Slimane had done well at the label, likely more than doubling brand revenue to around €2.5 billion ($2.76 billion). Slimane joined Celine in 2018, quickly making his mark at the historic fashion house with his distinctive rocker-chic aesthetic. In January, at LVMH’s annual results presentation, Arnault said that Celine was enjoying “great success” thanks to Slimane, and topping €2 billion in sales.

Club holdings Amazon , Costco , Home Depot , and Best Buy have been preparing for the port strike for months — attempting to blunt any fallout it might have on their abilities to get goods from overseas. They added that 60% to 70% of those imports arrive at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. To put things in perspective, for retail goods, the East Coast ports are less utilized than the West Coast ports, Basham said. Due to its size, however, Best Buy often gets priority from its shippers, which could help secure goods faster than smaller competitors.
