Conventional wisdom holds that Musk — the world’s richest man and key Donald Trump ally — and his friends are just joking. But Musk’s posts are adding to the anxiety that MSNBC staffers are feeling about the reelection of Donald Trump and the recently announced spinoff of Comcast’s cable channels. I learned that more than one benevolent billionaire with liberal bonafides has already reached out to acquaintances at MSNBC to express interest in buying the cable channel. Instead, he is moving MSNBC and a half dozen other cable channels into “SpinCo,” a pure-play cable programming company. I have sensed quite a bit of enthusiasm at MSNBC about “SpinCo,” actually, because the new structure should allow for more investment into MSNBC, CNBC and the other brands.

It might be the most shocking news yet to come out of this roller-coaster of a transition: After weeks of choosing cabinet secretaries who seem determined to destroy the agencies they will lead, Donald Trump announced the choice of a secretary of labor whom many American workers actually like. His pick, Representative Lori Chavez-DeRemer of Oregon, who just lost her bid for re-election, was one of only three Republicans to cosponsor the PRO Act, which protects workers’ right to organize. She also cosponsored the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, which requires all states to recognize public-sector unions. In fact, Chavez-DeRemer, the daughter of a Teamster, has such a pro-union record that some Republicans are in a full-blown panic about her nomination. Senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana wrote on X that he plans to question her about her support for “Democrat legislation in Congress that would strip Louisiana’s ability to be a right to work state, and if that will be her position going forward.” The New York Post ran a headline quoting conservatives calling her “toxic” and “unserious.”

CNN —Even before special counsel Jack Smith formally asked that his criminal cases against Donald Trump be dismissed, it was already guaranteed the president-elect would never see a jury. “I would fire him within two seconds.”In the end, though, Trump didn’t need to sack the special counsel to kill the two cases. Attorney General Merrick Garland is expected to publicly release it, as he has with past special counsel reports. What to do next in the case will be a question for the incoming Trump Justice Department. What America importsThe United States’ top import from Canada is oil, which reached a record 4.3 million barrels per day in July, according to the US Energy Information Administration. The United States imports a significant amount of electronics from China, in addition to machinery, toys, games, sports equipment, furniture and plastics. Some of the nation’s leading civil rights groups told NBC News that they are gearing up for a flood of legal battles to protect the protesters. Under Rubinstein, America First Legal has in the past year filed four lawsuits that provide a glimpse into how the Trump administration could differ from its predecessor. America First Legal alleges in the suits that the State Department, the Justice Department, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Education have protected pro-Hamas extremists. Rubinstein in an interview brought up an additional law he expects a second Trump administration could enforce. The Knight Institute said although it expects the new Trump administration to aggressively police speech, it is prepared to fight back.

Despite receiving complaints of exploitation from students, Bondi and then-California Attorney General Kamala Harris both declined to join the investigation. Harris attacked Trump in the 2020 and 2024 elections and painted him as a business fraud and threat to democracy. Now, if confirmed by the Senate, Bondi is set to become President-elect Trump’s attorney general. Some Florida attorneys have defended Bondi and said she followed norms as state attorney general. And, if she declines to prosecute prosecutors for political reasons, will be forced out by Trump like her predecessors.

He dreamed that I’d someday make a life in America, where he felt that his opinionated only daughter would thrive. He has made clear that, unlike previous presidents, he couldn’t care less about Taiwan and our hard-won democracy. He says — falsely — that Taiwan “stole” America’s chip business, has dismissed us as a geopolitical trifle and expressed doubt about the U.S. being able to defend Taiwan against China.

There is a revenge team, led by prospective nominees with instructions to rip apart the Justice Department, the intelligence agencies and the Defense Department, hunting down the so-called deep state and anyone who participated in the prosecutions of Mr. Trump. To the Editor:Re “Why We Got It So Wrong,” by David Brooks (column, Nov. 15):Mr. Brooks helps us understand why Kamala Harris lost by showing that voters did not vote their personal identities. So why did so many decent, caring people vote for a man riddled with so many personal flaws? Why were they inspired by his “fight, fight, fight” war cry? Disadvantaged because their material situation has lost ground compared with those they believe claim to be their betters. Nearly all Donald Trump’s cabinet picks come loaded with gasoline and matches, to follow the will of the arsonist in chief.
