A cold air mass over Alaska and western Canada was expanding to the south and east Sunday through the holiday week, the National Weather Service said Saturday. Icy "upper-level energy" ahead of the mass has already triggered winter weather advisories for parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, forecasters said. It will eventually impact the northern Rocky Mountains, the Midwest, the Northeast and areas in between, the National Weather Service said. In all, more than 144,000 utility customers from New York state to New England were blacked out by the storm, according to NBC News estimates. Three of the most popular U.S. national parks said on Friday that they would maintain—and by some measures, expand—their reservation systems. Glacier National Park in Montana is making the biggest changes, increasing the types of reservations required to visit during peak visiting months. In October, Mark Kvamme said he was stepping down at Drive Capital, the venture firm he founded. The so-called Ohio Fund will raise money mostly from Ohio institutional investors, sources said. The new fund — whose working title is "Ohio Fund" — has drawn comparisons to a sovereign wealth fund, because Kvamme plans to raise capital from mostly Ohio institutions. Unlike the venture firm he founded, the Ohio Fund will invest in multiple asset classes, including other funds, public stocks, private companies in Ohio, and infrastructure, sources said. He stayed one year before striking out on his own with ambitions to start a venture firm.

Trump won the district twice, capturing 53.1% of the vote in 2016 and 52.9% four years later. Boebert has since become a volatile figure within her district, opening the door for Frisch to get close to winning the seat, political experts said. Still, Boebert has a strong core of supporters and was leading Friday as the final votes were being tallied.

The Wyoming Natrium reactor, being developed by TerraPower and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, will get about half of its funding from the U.S. government. The joint study on the additional reactors will evaluate the potential for advanced reactors to be located near current fossil-fueled generation sites, enabling PacifiCorp to repurpose existing power generation and transmission assets in California, Washington, Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho, the companies said. Some nonproliferation experts say the more highly enriched fuel expected to be used by advanced reactors could become an attractive target for militants looking to convert it for use in a crude nuclear weapon. Advanced reactor proponents say the plants are safer and create less waste.

But a number of West Coast refineries that had been offline have returned to operations, and that has sparked a plunge in gas prices west of the Rocky Mountains, driving down the national average. “As it started selling off [Tuesday], it triggered some liquidation [of oil futures].” Oil and gas prices both rebounded modestly in Wednesday trading. American Home Shield reviewed 506,374 listings of houses and condos for sale from Zillow to determine the results of its 2022 American Home Size Index, which showcased the cities in the United States with the biggest homes. According to Census Bureau data, some key findings from the index showed that the average new homes in the U.S. are now more than 1,000 square feet bigger than in 1973. The index also stated that fast-growing tech hubs in the Rocky Mountains have the largest homes, and high-density coastal cities have the most expensive real estate, which is what's driving people to look for cheaper homes elsewhere.
