Country music superstar Garth Brooks has named the woman who, as Jane Roe, accused him of rape in a lawsuit last week. In an amended complaint filed in federal court in Mississippi on Tuesday, Brooks’ lawyers publicized the accuser’s name. And in another filing, they said that Brooks “is the victim of a shakedown” and that the woman “flouted” the authority of a judge in a related case. Out of spite and to punish, he publicly named a rape victim,” the woman’s attorneys said. She did not use her name, but she named Brooks.

A limited supply of IV fluid, stemming from damage caused by Hurricane Helene, is forcing some hospitals across the U.S. to postpone elective surgery and other nonemergency procedures to safeguard their stock. He also said the medical center has “doubled down” on efforts to prevent wasting IV fluid, as it’s the area’s only level 1 trauma hospital. A number of IV products, including sodium chloride, dextrose and sterile water, have already been in short supply. The Baxter facility shutdown hasn’t led to any new IV fluid shortages yet, the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday. On Tuesday, the agency also helped safely move IV products from B. Braun Medical’s Daytona Beach facilities out of the path of Hurricane Milton, Dembner said.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — In a storyline better befitting a melodrama than a popularity vote, Grazer won her second Fat Bear Contest Tuesday by defeating the male behemoth that killed her cub this summer. This is where Grazer’s cub died after it slipped over the waterfall and was killed by Chunk, perhaps the most dominant brown bear on the river. Bear 402, a female bear that was supposed to be a contestant in this year’s contest, was killed by a male brown bear the day the brackets were expected to be released. Her other surviving cub from her third litter placed second two weeks ago in the Fat Bear Junior contest. “His physical success is evident in his bulky form.”Adult male brown bears typically weigh 600 to 900 pounds in mid-summer.

CNN —In an exciting and personal rematch from last year, 128 Grazer and 32 Chunk faced off again in the final round of 2024’s Fat Bear Week contest. And this year, embattled mama bear 128 Grazer has retained the crown of the most popular fat bear in the annual online competition, which is observing its 10th anniversary this year. The rushing water in the Brooks River swept her cubs toward Chunk, currently the most dominant male bear on the river. The surviving cub, called 128’s Spring Cub, was a contender in the 2024 Fat Bear Junior contest held in late September. “For bears, fat equals survival.

S&P Global Ratings may downgrade Boeing bonds due to cash issues amid a strike. The strike risks Boeing's recovery and affects 737 Max production — and the company's cash flow. Moody's also recently put Boeing on a downgrade review. The first offer of a 25% pay rise was overwhelmingly rejected, while the union criticized Boeing for sending its second offer to the media and not negotiating with union leaders. "The company was hell-bent on standing on the non-negotiated offer," the union negotiating committee for IAM District 751 said on Tuesday. Garth Brooks, the country superstar, has named the woman who, as Jane Roe, accused him of rape and sexual assault in a bombshell lawsuit last week. In a court filing in Mississippi on Tuesday, lawyers for Mr. Brooks portrayed the star as “the victim of a shakedown” and said the woman’s lawyers had “flouted” the authority of a judge in a related case. Litigation over the woman’s accusations began last month with a lawsuit that was filed anonymously — as John Doe v. Jane Roe — in federal court in Mississippi. In a response, lawyers for the woman said they intended to sue the man in California, saying that “Ms. Roe respectfully requests that she may commence her California action as she intended to do, and use Mr. Doe’s name, absent objection from this Honorable Court.”

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced a “Latter-Day Saints for Trump” coalition less than a month before Election Day, as the campaign looks to shore up support among a key voting bloc in which defections could be particularly damaging in key western battlegrounds. “President Trump has consistently stood by our side in defending both, ensuring that Latter-day Saints and people of all faiths can worship freely and live according to our beliefs,” Lee said. Latter-day Saints voters’ steadfast support for GOP candidates has long helped keep Utah and Idaho — the states with the largest share of LDS voters — impenetrably red on election nights. The former president plans to hold a roundtable with Latter-day Saints leaders on Sunday in Arizona, according to a campaign aide. The Harris campaign hosts a “Latter Day Saints for Harris-Walz coalition on its website and launched an advisory committee in Arizona last month.

The Florida Department of Health, however, cited local statutes in the cease-and-desist letters sent last week to WCJB in Gainesville and WFLA in Tampa. The threat from the health department underscores the intensity of the political battle over Amendment 4, a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights in Florida’s constitution. The cease-and-desist letters from John Wilson, general counsel for the state health department, appear to be part of that campaign. The health department did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment about the FCC rebuke. The local stations did not respond to requests for comment, but both stations continued to air the ads on Tuesday.

After the cartoon supervillainy of Donald Trump and the smarmy misogyny of JD Vance, the “positive masculinity” of Walz and his ilk is a joyful relief, and these programs are often doing good work. Because rather than challenging the old stereotypes and patterns, the whole positive masculinity framework actually seems to be reinforcing them. “Healthy or positive masculinity is the idea that men can be emotionally expressive, have female friends or mentors, and express their emotions without feeling emasculated,” the website of one such program in North Carolina says. There is a lurking sexism in the whole positive masculinity conceit. “Positive masculinity” is not about de-gendering universal human qualities, and certainly not about encouraging boys to believe that they could have something to learn from women or female cultural norms.

Wearing a cap with the “Make America Great Again” slogan of Trump’s campaign, Musk appeared to acknowledge the foreboding nature of his remarks. It was the first time that Musk joined one of Trump's rallies and was evidence of their growing alliance in the final stretch of the presidential election. Trump has said he would tap Musk to lead a government efficiency commission if he regains the White House. Monthly Social Security checks aren't enough for most baby boomers to get by, further fueling a retirement crisis. A prenuptial agreement can be helpful, but it typically doesn't protect wealth built after the couple ties the knot, like retirement savings. Men's monthly retirement incomes are nearly $600 more than women's — $2,610 to $2,042 — and they're more likely to have a balance in a retirement account. Overall, divorced women like Clark see lower monthly retirement incomes than their male counterparts — and peers who have remarried. One of Mintzer's greatest divorce regrets is that she didn't safeguard her retirement savings.

The news is a particular blow to Vice President Kamala Harris, since the union was the first to endorse Joe Biden's presidential bid in 2020. In a statement, Edward A. Kelly, the union's president, said that the group's executive board voted on Thursday by 1.2% not to endorse. Both presidential campaigns made personal appeals to the union’s members at a convention in Boston in August, with Minnesota Gov. Last month, the Teamsters union, which represents over 1 million truck drivers, freight workers and others, also declined to endorse a presidential candidate. The AFL-CIO and the United Auto Workers union — which represent millions of workers combined — have each endorsed Harris this cycle.

"It was her job to protect the election equipment, and she turned on it and used her power for her own advantage." Peters said she was simply trying to preserve information to make sure the election was secure, and asked the judge to sentence her to probation. County officials said Peters' continued fraudulent election claims also led to a slew of death threats against election workers while she traveled the country promoting her claims and ignored her professional duties. She was defeated in the Republican primary and alleged election fraud in that race, demanding a recount after losing by 85,000 votes.
