CNN —In the Australian city Geelong, just south of Melbourne, thousands are lining up for the rare chance to see – and smell – an unusual plant. It’s the so-called “corpse flower,” or Amorphophallus Titanum (often shortened to Titan Arum), named after the putrid stench it releases when it blooms to attract pollinators like beetles and flies. This plant was only gifted to Geelong Botanic Garden in 2021 from the State Herbarium in Adelaide, South Australia, and for years horticulturalists have been watching and waiting for signs of a nascent bud. So far, visitors have described the smell as similar to a dead mouse or a stinky pond, the city website said. The plant can live over 30 to 40 years – meaning it only blooms a handful of times in its entire lifetime.

Judith Jamison, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer who for two decades was artistic director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, died on Saturday in New York at the age of 81. Instead, they’re turning to the internet for lower-cost options, whether a pop-up foldable house kit, a tiny home or a traditional mobile home. Amazon is not the first major retailer to sell manufactured homes. More than 100 years ago, American retailer Sears, Roebuck and Co began selling kit homes from its catalog, with some for under $1,000. A 2023 Urban Institute paper argued that mobile homes were “uniquely vulnerable” to natural disasters compared to other housing.

I do my research, set realistic goals, and choose hikes that are firmly within my son's abilities. I try to avoid a hike we can't reasonably complete. Amanda AdlerAlthough this may seem like a no-brainer, knowing what we're getting into is the key to our success. Now I take the time to fully research the hiking conditions, and I'll watch full POV YouTube videos to be sure I have the lay of the land before committing to a trek. I also plan for plenty of extra time — well beyond what's recommended for the hike — so my son can rest as needed without feeling rushed.

Trump’s 1.5-point win in Osceola County flipped a location that President Joe Biden won by 14 points four years earlier. Trump’s performance similarly improved in Orange County, home of Orlando, where Biden won by 23 points in 2020 but Harris won by just 5.6 points this year. Trump’s gains are explained in part by his appeals to Black men, and his efforts to reach out to Arab American voters.
