The battle for the future of golf between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has also been a clash over how tournaments are played. Now the PGA Tour is adopting a series of changes that happen to include some of the untraditional formats used by its Saudi-backed rival. In a memo sent to players Wednesday and reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, commissioner Jay Monahan said the Tour is going forward with a “Designated Event Model” to highlight certain tournaments. Those select events will include a couple of notable features: smaller fields of only 70-80 players and no cut to reduce the field after 36 holes.

The PGA Tour disclosed in its 2021 tax filings that commissioner Jay Monahan flies on private jets for all of his personal and business travel, and that the nonprofit golf league also may offer personal travel on private jets to other top officials. The new disclosures contrasted with prior years, when the Tour had said that in “limited cases,” top executives “may utilize charter or first class travel for business,” citing security, privacy or efficiency reasons. The prior filings made no mention of any personal private-jet travel provided by the nonprofit.
REUTERS/Lucy NicholsonDec 14 (Reuters) - The California Energy Commission on Wednesday approved a $2.9 billion investment plan to accelerate the state's 2025 electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen refueling goals. The investment will result in 90,000 new EV chargers across the state, more than double the 80,000 chargers already installed, the energy commission said. The $1 trillion infrastructure bill provides $5 billion to help states install EV chargers along interstate highways over five years. States now have access to more than $1.5 billion to help build EV chargers. California, in August, moved to require all new vehicles sold in the state by 2035 to be either electric or plug-in electric hybrids.

A representative for Alley confirmed to CNN via email on Tuesday that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer prior to her death. Colorectal cancer, which includes colon and rectal cancers, is the second most common cause of death from cancer in 2022, outranked only by lung and bronchus cancer, according to the National Cancer Institute Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results Program. Regular checkups are the best way to keep colon cancer at bay, according to the US Preventive Services Task Force. DNA stool test: A DNA stool test is another option, the society said. “You didn’t put the scope in yet, did you?” asked Couric, whose husband, Jay Monahan, had died from colon cancer at age 42 in 1998.
Dec 5 (Reuters) - Investors have proposed shareholder resolutions at two U.S. railroads calling for paid sick leave for workers, an issue that nearly caused a national rail strike, and they could go to an advisory vote at shareholder meetings in the spring. But the deal he approved did not include paid sick days for workers, a key sticking point for unions in contract talks with five major U.S. railroads. read moreProposals seen by Reuters filed by activist investors ask Norfolk Southern Corp (NSC.N) and Union Pacific Corp (UNP.N) to offer "a reasonable amount" of paid sick time, determined by company directors. Kate Monahan, a director at Trillium Asset Management, the socially minded investor that filed the resolution at Union Pacific, said more flexible sick time would have broader benefits like reducing workforce turnover. Railroads worry implementing paid sick leave would require more employees at a time when many have cut their workforces dramatically.
Some rail investors are calling for companies to adopt a proposal to give workers paid sick leave. Currently, rail workers technically have no paid sick leave, a key demand in their contract negotiations. Now, some railroad shareholders want reasonable paid sick leave to be included as a benefit. "Getting workers paid sick leave cuts down on disease spread dramatically, leading to fewer absences. Now, additional paid sick leave could be put to a vote, if the shareholders pushing rail companies to consider it get their way.

September 29 - Rory McIlroy finds himself in a field that includes several LIV Golf players at this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in St. Andrews, Scotland, and once again, he didn't hesitate to express his thoughts on the Saudi-backed upstart circuit. You look at some other sports and what's happened and the game of golf is ripping itself apart right now," McIlroy said. I just think right now, with where everything is, it's probably not the right time." There's criteria there, everyone knows what they are and if they want to pivot to meet the criteria they can," McIlroy said. As for the PGA Tour and LIV making peace with each other, that seems unlikely to happen, at least as long as Jay Monahan is commissioner of the PGA Tour.
