President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that Elon Musk and former Republican presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy will lead an efficiency group when his second term begins in January. Trump wrote in a post that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, will "become, potentially, 'The Manhattan Project' of our time." Trump didn't specify where cuts will take place or when the department may be formed. Musk, who also runs defense contractor SpaceX, has reportedly been stationed at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida since election night. Ramaswamy, who challenged Trump in the Republican primary, is co-founder of investment firm Strive Asset Management.

A former body guard for Sean Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against a woman who in September accused him of physically and sexually assaulting her in 2001. Joseph Sherman called the allegations in Thalia Graves’ lawsuit “utterly and entirely false,” in documents filed Thursday in federal court in Manhattan. She said Sherman had lifted her up from a couch, slammed her down on a table and Combs then raped her, according to her court filing. Sherman also slapped her multiple times and forced her to perform oral sex on him, Graves’ lawsuit said. Combs’ attorneys have vehemently denied the charges in the indictment and allegations in all of the other suits.

The coming reign of the only child
  + stars: | 2024-11-11 | by ( Ann Friedman | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +16 min
American women are having kids later in life, leaving less time to bear multiple children. American women in general are having children later, but the delay is most pronounced among the most educated. Even religious conservatives, who are biblically motivated to be fruitful and multiply, are starting families later and more often having only one child. So what will the coming reign of the only child mean for America? Just as having children is no longer seen as a required stage of adulthood, having siblings will no longer be a de facto part of childhood.

But holding the White House and Senate majority for another few weeks doesn’t guarantee Democrats will have an easy time processing the final batch of Biden appointees. “There is a push across the board from the White House and the Senate for Democrats to show up and do the job they were elected to do,” a senior White House official, asking for anonymity to speak candidly, told CNN. The White House official pointed to how Republican Texas Sen. John Cornyn on Saturday promised “no weekends, no breaks” to confirm Trump’s Cabinet once he took power, and the White House official encouraged Democrats to show that dedication to judges in Biden’s final stretch. “Regardless of party, the American people expect their leaders to prioritize the rule of law and ensuring the criminal justice system can function effectively in every stated,” said White House spokesperson Andrew Bates. There are around nine – depending on what the calendar will allow – other Biden nominees who could still come through committee.

Some 35% of baby boomers feel "significantly behind" in retirement savings, according to a Bankrate survey that polled roughly 2,450 U.S. adults in August. For some who’ve run afoul of Trump, the election results have sparked fresh worries that he may enter office looking for retribution. During the campaign, Trump has made different statements about whether he might target people who’ve upset him. Rep. Jim Jordan, a staunch Trump ally in Congress, said he doesn’t expect any of the prosecutors to face reprisals over Trump investigations. One former Trump White House official who has publicly spoken against Trump described feeling “scared” and declined to let their name be used. Now Fanone says he is hunkering down in his Virginia mountain-area home for fear that Trump could weaponize the police.

President-elect Donald Trump raised eyebrows when he decided to hold a campaign rally in the Bronx in late May. Results so far show Trump winning more than 27% of the vote in the Bronx, shrinking his margin of defeat there significantly. Not only did the Teamsters decline to endorse, Murtaugh noted, but they also released polling in swing states, including Pennsylvania, that showed Trump winning over large numbers of their members. ‘We have no easy path here’For one Democratic policy aide, the biggest concern was movement among younger voters. Mascia claimed that as he approached the motorist, he was shot, so he retreated behind his police vehicle and the driver fled, James said. Mascia tended to his wound, James said, and called in to report that he had been shot. This week, as part of its investigation, state police executed a warrant at the home Mascia shares with his family on Long Island. NEW YORK — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine struck a deal to end his current jail stint, agreeing to serve a month behind bars for violating the terms of his release after a felony conviction, prosecutors said Wednesday. The deal with federal prosecutors was described in a letter partially endorsed by a Manhattan federal judge. It calls for the entertainer to be sentenced to a month in jail, followed by a month of home incarceration, a month of home detention and a month of curfew. The terms of the deal also call for Tekashi 6ix9ine to submit to supervision from the court’s Probation Department for another year. In April 2020, Tekashi 6ix9ine was freed months early from his prison sentence after complaining that his ailments made him particularly susceptible to the coronavirus, which was spreading through the nation’s jails and prisons.
