A House Freedom Caucus member said there's no evidence linking Biden to a high crime. Appearing on MSNBC on Sunday, Rep. Ken Buck also railed against Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Buck noted the "time for impeachment is the time when there's evidence linking President Biden to a high crime or misdemeanor." In response to Buck's comments, Greene said it seemed like the Freedom Caucus member was pining for a job from the Democratic president. The publicized back-and-forth between Buck and Greene comes several months after the Freedom Caucus booted Greene from their ranks days after she called fellow caucus member Rep. Lauren Boebert a "bitch" on the House floor.

Kevin McCarthy is now openly discussing the possibility of impeaching Biden. In response, White House spokesperson Ian Sams blasted McCarthy for the "seemingly bottomless" desire of Republicans to punish the president despite a lack of concrete evidence. The House speaker's mention is more than just a shot across the bow at the White House. As Politico pointed out, McCarthy's mention hints that House Republicans may try to start an impeachment process as a way to potentially unlock greater legal power. While McCarthy has been more guarded when discussing impeachment, some of the more conservative House Republicans have pushed for impeaching the president since his inauguration.

CNN —Speaker Kevin McCarthy suggested that House Republicans may be approaching the point where they’d pursue an impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden, the California Republican’s most explicit threat of impeaching the president to date. McCarthy’s comments come amid a series of congressional investigations in the Republican-led House that have targeted Biden, his administration and his family members – most prominently his son Hunter. Hunter Biden has agreed to plead guilty to two federal tax misdemeanors as part of a plea deal. House Republicans have also floated possible impeachment inquiries against Garland and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Republican allegations of political interference in the Hunter Biden probe have been met with adamant denials from Weiss, Garland and other top Justice Department officials who were involved.

This week, he delivered his most explicit threat yet to Biden, saying their investigations into the Biden family’s business deals appear to be rising to the level of an impeachment inquiry. The only way Congress can do that is go to an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said Tuesday, stopping short of formally moving to open such a probe. Nebraska GOP Rep. Don Bacon, whose district Biden carried in 2020, told CNN that the House needs to be deliberate. It’s not good for the country.”In the first Trump impeachment, House Democrats led a number of closed and open hearings before charging Trump with abuse of power and obstructing Congress. Comer confirmed he has been regularly briefing McCarthy on his Hunter Biden probes, which he thinks helped give McCarthy the “confidence” to publicly raise the idea of an impeachment inquiry.

WASHINGTON, July 18 (Reuters) - The Republican-controlled U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday turned back a bid by hardline conservatives to end five presidential emergency declarations that allow for sanctions against America's enemies in the Middle East and Africa. Trump, a hero to Republican hardliners, did use a 2019 national emergency declaration to fund construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border over the opposition of congressional Democrats. "Trump was probably the first president to use the National Emergency Act and national emergency declarations for the express purpose of getting around Congress on a question of long term policy," Goitein said. Both Republicans and Democrats said they agreed with the objective of improving the national emergency system. "While I understand my colleagues' desire to reform the national emergency process, empowering terrorists, corrupt officials and war criminals is not the answer.

CNN —House Speaker Kevin McCarthy faces a challenge Friday morning: A razor thin margin to get a must-pass defense policy bill over the finish line with a majority of Democrats signaling they cannot support the version of the legislation crafted by conservative Republicans. The bill – known as the National Defense Authorization Act – sets the policy agenda and authorizes funding for the Department of Defense. If they lose that many members, it would greatly increase the prospects that Republicans could muscle the bill through. Without Democratic support, Republicans will need to wrangle nearly every member of the GOP conference in order to get the bill over the finish line. Many Democrats made clear ahead of the vote that if the amendment was included as part of the defense bill, they would be unlikely to support final passage.

Rep. Matt Gaetz offered an amendment to the annual defense bill to cut off all military aid to Ukraine. The measure easily failed — but 70 House Republicans voted for it. It offered the clearest sign yet of which lawmakers support ending all aid to the besieged country. Dozens of Republican lawmakers have voted against aid to Ukraine in the past, and former President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to curtail US involvement in the war. Below is a complete list of the 70 Republicans who voted for the amendment, according to the House Clerk.

WASHINGTON, July 6 (Reuters) - U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a staunch ally of former President Donald Trump, has been voted out of the hardline House Freedom Caucus group after clashing with a fellow lawmaker, a caucus member said. "A vote was taken to remove Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Freedom Caucus for some of the things she's done," Republican Representative Andy Harris told Politico, adding that Greene's support for House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy may have also contributed to her ouster from the group. In a statement to the media on Thursday evening, Greene did not directly address her Freedom Caucus membership but said: "In Congress, I serve Northwest Georgia first, and serve no group in Washington." A spokesperson for the House Freedom Caucus, founded in 2015, said in an email: "HFC does not comment on membership or internal process." In 2021, when Democrats controlled the House, they stripped Greene of her committee assignments for incendiary remarks that included support for violence against political opponents.
