CNN —A core of ice age sediment from northern Greenland has yielded the world’s oldest sequences of DNA. They then compared the DNA fragments with existing libraries of DNA collected from both extinct and living animals, plants and microorganisms. It was super exciting when we recovered the DNA (to see) that very, very different ecosystem. They found no DNA from carnivores but believe predators — such as bears, wolves or even saber-toothed tigers — must have been present in the ecosystem. Further study of environmental DNA from this time period could help scientists understand how various organisms might adapt to climate change.

London CNN —Elton John will headline the Glastonbury Festival next summer in what will be the final UK show of his farewell tour, the festival announced Friday. John will top the bill on the Pyramid Stage on June 25, the music festival’s final night, Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis said in a statement posted on the festival’s website. The Glastonbury Festival is held most years in Somerset, southwest England. “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year,” Eavis said. The performance will close the UK leg of John’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour,” publicized as his last ever, with more than 300 dates before his retirement after 52 years of touring.

CNN —As the hurricane season closes, a handful of blockbuster storms made history after an eerily quiet first half of the season gave false hope. In fact, we didn’t have any named storms from July 3 to August 31, the first time that’s occurred since 1941. One of those storms was Hurricane Ian, which hit land in late September and will go down as the most memorable storm of the 2022 season. “Tropical storms have formed in every month outside of hurricane season, and there have been a few hurricanes, too,” NOAA said. Historically, we’ve seen at least 15 named storms form in the month of December, even all the way up to December 30.

John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s Democratic lieutenant governor, will face Republican Mehmet Oz, a celebrity TV doctor, in the only debate of the race to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Pat Toomey. Debate organizers and the campaigns have agreed to use closed-captioning to allow Fetterman to read questions and answers spoken and transcribed instantly. Another Oz campaign aide sent an email calling attention to the Fetterman team's memo. Oz, a heart surgeon, had used the debate calendar as a political weapon to call attention to Fetterman’s stroke and recovery. "I feel like I’m gonna get better and better — every day," Fetterman told NBC News in an interview this month.

Internet detectives have been furiously trying to figure out her recipe after it was mentioned in a story published Monday by the Daily Mail. There is even a theory that Wilde previously shared the recipe for the dressing with the Food Network awhile back. Emily Blunt’s take on ‘engagement chicken’Blunt endorsed Food Network star Ina Garten’s roast chicken in a podcast conversation last year. Her recipe has made it to People magazine and includes unsweetened chocolate squares, butter, chopped walnuts and mini semi-sweet chocolate chips.
