Older orca mothers may protect their sons from bullying well into adulthood. Orca males carry fewer bite marks if their moms are alive in their old age, a study found. Moms may step in if their sons are in troubleTooth rake marks left behind on a Southern resident killer whale. David Ellifrit, Center for Whale ResearchThis new research, from the Universities of Exeter and York in the UK and the Center for Whale Research in Washington, suggests moms could be going even further for their sons. By protecting their sons, older females may be increasing the pod's chance of passing on its genes, while expending fewer resources.

CNN —A 3-year-old driving a golf cart struck and killed a 7-year-old on Monday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida, according to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol. Concerns about minors driving golf carts in Florida recently prompted the passage of a new state law, CNN affiliate WJFX reported. Anyone under the age of 18 will soon need to have a permit or driver’s license to drive a golf cart, the station reported last month. It doesn’t state an age when minors become eligible to start driving golf carts but does state all minors must have a permit or driver’s license to legally drive a golf cart in Florida. Across the country, more than 6,500 children are hurt by golf carts every year, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Oil prices are, incredibly, lower today than they were before the short-lived uprising in Russia — one of the world’s most important players in the oil market. But some oil market veterans wonder if the pendulum has now swung too far in the other direction. An actual disruption to Russia’s oil flows would be a game-changer for the oil market, and perhaps the world economy. That country’s civil war shut down oil export terminals — and even though Libya’s output is much smaller than that of Russia, oil prices shot higher. For now, the oil market is betting there won’t be a repeat of the Libya unrest in Russia.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) was up 44 cents, or 0.6%, at $69.44. However, the challenge has raised questions about President Vladimir Putin's grip on power and concerns about possible disruption of Russian oil supply. Consultancy Rystad Energy said in a note late on Sunday that it did not expect to see a significant increase in oil prices as a result of the "short-lived event". Goldman Sachs analysts said markets could price a moderately higher probability of domestic volatility in Russia leading to supply disruptions. "China's economic growth has been a nightmare for commodity markets, particularly in oil and industrial metals," CMC Markets analyst Tina Teng said in a note.

SINGAPORE, June 26 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose in early Asian trade on Monday after a failed mutiny by Russian mercenaries over the weekend raised concerns about political instability in Russia and the potential impact on oil supply from one of the world's largest producers. Brent crude futures rose 95 cents, or 1.3%, to $74.80 a barrel by 2300 GMT on Sunday. However, the challenge has raised questions about President Vladimir Putin's grip on power and concerns about possible disruption of Russian oil supply. Goldman Sachs analysts said markets may price a moderately higher probability that domestic volatility in Russia leads to supply disruptions or has a sizable negative impact on oil supply in the future. "China's economic growth has been a nightmare for commodity markets, particularly in oil and industrial metals," CMC Markets analyst Tina Teng said in a note.

An internal Union Investment document seen by Reuters shows that the firm received just 30 responses to its outreach. Although consumer goods manufacturers are particularly exposed, other sectors that import goods associated with deforestation, including commodities houses and industrials companies, will also face scrutiny. Consumer goods makers are counting on technology such as satellites and artificial intelligence to help eradicate deforestation from their supply chains. Several large consumer goods companies say they are close to meeting their ambitious zero-deforestation goals. "The EU rules make deforestation a financial risk as well as an environmental risk."

"Saudi Arabia has a track record of delivering on material cuts," RBC Capital's Helima Croft said in a note. "Hence, we would expect the full 1 million bpd unilateral cut to hit the market in July, nearly doubling the true physical reduction we have seen from the producer group since October." "With Saudi Arabia protecting oil prices from sliding too low by cutting production, we think oil markets are now more prone to a shortfall later this year," Commonwealth Bank of Australia analyst Vivek Dhar said in a note. "We think Brent futures will rise to $85/bbl by Q4 2023 even with a tepid demand recovery in China factored in." "Affording it the 200,000 bpd quota adjustment for 2024 seems to settle the issue of its OPEC membership for now."

'Brady Bunch' house hits the market for $5.5 million
  + stars: | 2023-05-28 | by ( Jay Croft | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +1 min
CNN —Here’s a story of an old TV house that has been redone inside like yesterday. “The Brady Bunch” house has hit the market for any fan of groovy ’70s pop culture, but it’ll take much more than a hunch to get your hands on it. The Los Angeles home, made famous by exterior shots on the blended-family sitcom, is going for $5.5 million. The purchase led to a new series, called “A Very Brady Renovation,” featuring the actors who played the kids and HGTV’s remodeling hosts. The home’s listing says it was built in 1959 and is the second-most-photographed in the country after the White House.

CNN —A man was fatally shot and a woman wounded Friday night outside a New Orleans restaurant near the annual Jazz Fest, which started Friday. They found a man dead at the scene near Mandina’s Restaurant, a 90-year-old institution. A woman on the streetcar at the time told WDSU the streetcar was stopped and police told everyone to get off but did not say why. “The neighborhood comes alive during Jazz Fest,” he said. “It would be busy on any Friday night, but especially after Jazz Fest.”
Oil prices were rattled by the collapse of several U.S. and European lenders earlier this spring, which discouraged volatility-adverse investors from historically riskier assets, such as commodities. Beijing, the world's largest importer of crude oil, reined in its purchases last year amid drastic "zero-Covid" restrictions that depressed transport fuel requirements. Kpler data indicates that China's imports of Russian crude oil averaged 1.59 million barrels per day in March, up 68% from the same period in 2022. The latest cuts already spell a tight supply-demand balance that could hit households, the International Energy Agency warned in its latest monthly Oil Market Report. "Our oil market balances were already set to tighten in the second half of 2023, with the potential for a substantial supply deficit to emerge.
