Representatives for Lynch and US prosecutors said Lynch was acquitted on all 15 charges — one count of conspiracy and 14 counts of wire fraud. Former Autonomy finance executive Stephen Chamberlain, who faced the same charges at trial alongside Lynch, was also acquitted on all counts, the Lynch representative said. On the stand, the entrepreneur said he had been focused on tech issues, and entrusted money matters and the accounting decisions at issue to Sushovan Hussain, Autonomy’s then-chief financial officer. Hussain was separately convicted in 2018 at a trial in the same court on charges related to the deal with HP. HP largely won a civil lawsuit against Lynch and Hussain in London in 2022, though damages have not yet been decided.

Mike Lynch, former chief executive officer of Autonomy, arrives at federal court in San Francisco, California, US, on Monday, March 18, 2024. Representatives for Lynch and U.S. prosecutors said Lynch was acquitted on all 15 charges — one count of conspiracy, and 14 counts of wire fraud, each connected to specific transactions or communications. Former Autonomy finance executive Stephen Chamberlain, who faced the same charges at trial alongside Lynch, was also acquitted on all counts, the Lynch representative said. The trial where prosecutors said Lynch and Chamberlain schemed to inflate Autonomy's revenue was the latest chapter in a legal saga stemming from the failed deal. Lynch was one of the UK's leading tech entrepreneurs, drawing comparisons to Apple cofounder Steve Jobs and Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates.

The book focuses on three themes, all of which can help you better understand the people around you, Brooks writes: curiosity, empathy and self-awareness. That's because they're better at taking interest in other people and giving them the floor to share their stories and perspectives authentically, Brooks writes. "Diminishers are not curious about you, they don't ask you questions," Brooks said during a discussion at Colgate University in February. But diminishers often ask questions that aren't open-ended, or use your response as a way to talk about themselves. Then, try to provide some insight, Brooks writes — rounding out the conversation by letting them know you're here for them.

Musk, who has previously called for the prosecution of Fauci, posted on X, "Why do Dems love Fauci so much." Musk said in a post on X Monday that LeCun has been "out of touch with AI for a long time." "I'm sure the scientists who hide behind this collective name are super happy about that," LeCun said on X.

And it’s a style that Melinda French Gates appears to be emulating, at least partly, in her newly solo philanthropic venture. Now independent of that organization, French Gates is free to take bets on organizations and communities regardless of their size or ability to demonstrate their impact. Scott and French Gates’ ex husbands, meanwhile, aren’t getting as many kudos for their charitable work as they might like. Gates, with a net worth of $154 billion, has also faced criticism for the Gates Foundation’s methods. “That can’t happen through the Gates Foundation’s father-knows-best, look-at-me brand of bureaucratic philanthropy.”

But this is the global system we do have and, within it, some billionaires are behaving much more generously and ethically than others. Melinda French Gates is one of the good ones. French Gates has long been an advocate for family planning and women’s rights abroad, and now she’s dedicating $1 billion through 2026 to those issues. Female billionaires, in other words, are far more likely than male ones to give away substantial portions of their wealth. So yes, we can applaud the good billionaires who give their wealth away, even if we think that they are representative of a bigger inequality problem.

Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Jamie Dimon — they’ve all given graduation speeches more than once. The appeal of being a commencement speaker, however, seems to be waning. Bill Gates and Warren Buffett have given each other a few tips over the course of their friendship, which has lasted for more than three decades and counting. One of those lessons is something Gates wishes he'd learned a lot sooner, to clear up his busy schedule — and possibly even made him happier and more productive. "In hindsight, it's a lesson I could have learned a lot sooner had I taken more peeks at Warren Buffett's intentionally light calendar." Gates finally learned to cut his employees, and himself, some slack after catching a peek of the Berkshire Hathaway CEO's personal daybook. "[I] remember Warren showing me his calendar ... he [still] has days that there's nothing on it," Gates said, adding that Buffett's sparser schedule taught him an important lesson.
