During Golden Week, mainland China recorded 765 million domestic trips, up from both the prior year and before the pandemic, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

China's property stimulus measures delivered a modest boost to the market, but they are not enough to turn around the troubled sector, according to analysts. Average daily sales in Beijing jumped 81%, in terms of floor area, compared to the same holiday period the year before. Last year's Golden Week holiday was between Sept. 29 and Oct. 6. Hong Kong CNN —China has set aside 200 billion yuan ($28 billion) for investment projects by local governments this year, as it promised to meet its own ambitious economic growth targets. China announced a 5% target growth rate in March, but a series of economic data over the summer has been so weak that economists were worried the goal might be missed. To help local governments struggling with mountains of debt, Beijing will provide 100 billion yuan ($14 billion) from the central government’s budget and an extra 100 billion yuan for investment projects, Zheng said. Nevertheless, investors were disappointed at the lack of details on new fiscal measures,” Fred Neumann, chief Asia economist for HSBC, told CNN. Fiscal measures, on the other hand, can include the use of taxation or other measures to impact public spending more directly.

Qilai Shen | Bloomberg | Getty ImagesChinese investors are looking for more policy direction from China's top economic planning body on Tuesday, when mainland markets return from a week-long holiday. Before the week-long holiday, authorities unveiled a flurry of stimulus policies, including interest rate cuts, lower cash reserve requirements at banks, looser property purchase rules and liquidity support for stock markets. Chinese major indexes have surged over 25% as investors cheer on the barrage of stimulus measures. Last week, China's CSI 300 blue-chip index extended a nine-day winning streak, surging over 8% Monday, before the market closed for a week-long holiday. The 2024 box office has been inundated with sequels, prequels and remakes, with the top 10 titles of the year all coming from existing intellectual property. Looking at the current 2025 calendar, between 50% and 70% of the movies from the six major studios — Universal , Disney , Warner Bros. , Paramount , Sony and Lionsgate — will be related to existing IP. Craig T Fruchtman | Getty Images Entertainment | Getty ImagesEven before Hollywood was disrupted by the pandemic and the meteoric rise of streaming content, the domestic box office was heavily reliant on franchise titles. While that's a 11.3% drop from last year and lags 25% behind pre-pandemic levels, the haul is better than box office analysts had expected. "Some of the most well-received box office hits in recent memory have been sequels or films based on existing brands and there is still a variety of original content out there."

China stocks will keep rising after markets in the mainland reopen following the Golden Week break, analysts predicted. Beijing's announcements of economic support last week have fueled China's CSI 300 blue-chip index to rally over 25% in a nine-day winning streak. Then, Hong Kong stocks dropped on Thursday, ending a 6-day winning streak and sparking fears that China's stimulus rally could have started to fizzle out. Beijing's recent stimulus blitz coupled with higher participation from retail investors will likely fuel a longer rally, he said.
