With the summer sales season well underway — the four months between May and August make up as much as 40 percent of annual beer sales — the question swirling around Bud Light is whether the slump is temporary or the new normal. “Here we are about 10 weeks into it, and we’re still seeing double-digit declines in volumes nationally,” said Bump Williams, who runs the consulting firm that bears his name. A third of distributors believe the impact on Bud Light will be permanent. When asked how long he thought the sales declines would linger, Mr. Wagner shrugged. “I’ve seen longtime Bud Light customers trying other beers,” he said.

CNN —The Los Angeles Angels enjoyed a historic night on the road Saturday at Coors Field, setting new franchise records for both runs and hits in a game as they dismantled the Colorado Rockies 25-1, scoring 25 runs on 28 hits. We attacked pitches in the zone and hitting gets contagious sometimes,” Angels manager Phil Nevin said afterwards. Dustin Bradford/Getty ImagesThe Angels scored 13 runs in the third, tying a franchise record which had previously been set in 1997 and 1978. It was a less auspicious record-breaking night for the Rockies as they succumbed to their worst defeat in franchise history, according to Reuters. “Today was just one of those days, where everyone was feeling good and we were getting the right pitches to hit,” Moniak added, according to ESPN.

Amazon has announced that its Amazon One feature will soon be used to purchase alcohol. The technology allows customers to have their age and payment information accessed by their palm. Irish Haven was a cash-only bar for decades before introducing digital payments in 2020, so Hogan is hesitant to implement palm payments and age verification. Amazon One, Hogan said, could eliminate an important conversation between a bartender and patrons to determine if a person has been drinking prior to visiting his bar. In 2022, Amazon's falter with brick-and-mortar stores led the retail giant to shift its focus to licensing its cashierless technology to third-party retailers.

Amazon is adding a feature to its palm-based payment system that will allow users to buy alcohol by swiping their hand. The system, called Amazon One, lets people pay for items by placing their palm over a scanning device. To purchase alcohol, users have to upload a government-issued ID on the Amazon One website, the company wrote in a blog post on Monday. To start, the Coors Field baseball stadium in Denver, Colorado, will let attendees use Amazon One to purchase alcohol, Amazon said. Amazon One and other payment systems that use biometric data have faced some pushback from privacy advocates.
New York CNN —Last year, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation gave Bud Light parent company Anheuser-Busch a top rating for LGBTQ+ equality. Bud Light sales dropped in the ensuing weeks. Bud Light has been embroiled in controversy since April. But Bud Light hasn’t gotten the benefit of support for its initial deal with Mulvaney because of its subsequent reaction. During the discussion, he mentioned that Bud Light is just one brand within the company’s broad portfolio, which has not changed its full-year outlook.
