American luxury-goods companies have long wanted to build a multibrand rival to take on the European giants that dominate the industry. Tapestry and Capri said the deal could lower their costs by $200 million over the next three years. Tapestry is taking on a lot of debt via an $8 billion bridge loan — the largest M.&A. And Capri depends heavily on Michael Kors, which generates 70 percent of its revenue. By comparison, Versace, Capri’s only real luxury brand, accounts for just a fifth of sales.

Aug 10 (Reuters) - Coach parent Tapestry (TPR.N) will buy Michael Kors owner Capri Holdings (CPRI.N) in a deal valued at $8.5 billion, creating a U.S. fashion powerhouse to challenge larger European rivals for a bigger share of the global luxury market. Thursday's deal will also bring under one roof Tapestry's more affordable luxury brands Kate Spade, Stuart Weitzman and Capri's Jimmy Choo and Versace labels. That compares with about $87 billion for LVMH last year and roughly $23 billion for another European rival Kering (PRTP.PA). The deal will help Capri revive its Michael Kors brand under "better management" at Tapestry after weak sales in the past few quarters, analysts said. In the same year, Capri, formerly known as Michael Kors, acquired British shoemaker Jimmy Choo for $1.2 billion.

This Barbie Is Now on Strike

The actors’ strike has hit the brakes on the hot pink convertible that is the “Barbie” film’s press tour. That means the parade of neon fashion led by Ms. Robbie has probably come to an end. But several of the actress’s best looks took inspiration from Barbie’s clothing archive, including a black-and-white-striped swimsuit the doll wore when it was introduced in 1959, a prim skirt suit from the ’80s and a swirly minidress Barbie wore in the ’90s. Those outfits, seen here alongside the Barbie clothes that inspired them, struck the exact right balance between kitschy and chic. “It’s not subtle,” Ms. Robbie said in an interview with People, “but it’s very fun!”

SHANGHAI, July 11 (Reuters) - High-end jeweller Bulgari has apologised after allegedly listing Taiwan as independent from China on an overseas website, sparking a furious response on Chinese social media. The company and its Chinese celebrity ambassadors became trending topics on China's Twitter-like Weibo platform after users spotted the country drop down menu on Bulgari's website. The controversy prompted state media outlet Global Times to post on social media that: "Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and cannot be listed as a country". It's not the first foreign brand to face the wrath of Chinese social media users aggrieved about a perceived territorial slight. Barbiecore “ignites my soul,” makeup artist Victoria Lyn recently told her 5.3 million TikTok followers from her Pensacola, Fla., studio. For the uninitiated, Barbiecore is a pink-drenched fashion craze that pranced into the zeitgeist last year after hot-pink collections from Valentino and Versace appeared on celebrities and on-set images from Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” film (out July 21) emerged online. Lyn claimed the trend “is here to slay for the summer.” Considering #Barbiecore currently has over 350 million views on TikTok, her prediction might well come to pass.

[1/4] Rapper Kanye West talks on the phone before attending the Versace presentation in New York, U.S. December 2, 2018. Adidas cut ties with West, who goes by Ye, in October after he made a string of antisemitic comments in interviews and on social media. The German sportswear maker was left with Yeezy shoes worth 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion). The value of Yeezy shoes in the resale market has rocketed since then, with some models more than doubling in price. Adidas said there could be further releases of Yeezy stock but no decisions have been made on timing.

REUTERS/Allison JoyceFRANKFURT, May 19 (Reuters) - Adidas will start selling some of the shoes from its defunct Yeezy partnership with rapper Kanye West at the end of May, the company said on Friday, and plans to donate the proceeds to selected organisations combating racism and hate. The news fleshes out plans initially outlined last week and follows Adidas' move to cut ties with West over anti-Semitic comments made last year, leaving the German sporting goods maker with Yeezy brand shoes worth 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion). The initial sale of some of the shoes marks the first time the products have been available to customers since Adidas (ADSGn.DE) terminated the partnership in October 2022. Among others, planned recipients of the proceeds include the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change, Adidas said.
How to Wear a Sari? A New Exhibition Counts the Ways.

The sari, in essence, is a six- to nine-yard cloth draped freely around the body. In April, Zendaya wore a sparkling deep-blue sari by Rahul Mishra on a red carpet in Mumbai, India. At the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, the Indian actress Deepika Padukone wore a shimmering gold-and-black sari by Sabyasachi Mukherjee that Vogue France called “the star piece” of the festival. Ms. Poonawalla’s Met Gala sari is among the pieces featured in a new exhibition, “The Offbeat Sari,” opening on Friday at the Design Museum in London. The show, which runs through September, explores how the sari is being newly defined, said Priya Khanchandani, the head of curatorial at the museum.

IT WAS BOUND to happen at some point. Along with low-rise jeans, the recent Y2K-style renaissance has resurrected going-out tops. If you’re over 30, you no doubt remember them—those sexy, strappy, sometimes bedazzled and always bordering-on-bad-taste camisoles that Paris Hilton and her ilk wore while cavorting at night clubs. Now they’ve reappeared, most notably at Celine’s recent Los Angeles show (in shimmering gold) and on Versace’s spring runway (in sheer, beaded violet). But as Gen Z and the TikTok set embrace this dubious early-2000s look, women who wore it the first time are wondering what to sport for a stylish night out that doesn’t channel Tara Reid circa 2003.
