That implied Buffett offloaded approximately a quarter of his stake with about 300 million shares remaining in the holding. Warren Buffett sold another big chuck of his Apple stake, downsizing Berkshire Hathaway 's biggest equity holding for four quarters in a row. Before Apple, Buffett largely avoided technology companies for most of his career, saying they were outside of his circle of competence. Apple shares are up 16% on the year, trailing the S&P 500's 20% gain.

A prison employee announced the execution could begin at 6:01 p.m. Moore took several deep breaths that sounded like snores over the next minute. Three jurors who condemned Moore to death in 2001, including one who wrote Friday, sent letters asking McMaster to change his sentence to life without parole. They were joined by a former state prison director, Moore’s trial judge, his son and daughter, a half-dozen childhood friends and several pastors. Moore is the second inmate executed in South Carolina since it resumed executions.

CNN —One of the driest months in United States history is coming to a close after causing the worst drought in more than 20 years in parts of the East as temperatures soar well above average there. As of October 25, the average precipitation across the Lower 48 was less than an inch. Only five months in the 129 years of records have ended with less than an inch of average precipitation over the Lower 48. Flash drought happens when drought conditions increase quickly, rather than over a multi-month or yearly timeframe, according to NOAA. It’s the state’s worst drought level since 2002.

CNN —Inflation has slowed further and is just a hair’s breadth from the Federal Reserve’s 2% target. The Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, which is the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, showed prices rose 2.1% for the year ended in September, a slowdown from 2.3% in August, according to Commerce Department data released Thursday. The annual increase, which marks a fresh three-and-a-half-year low, fell right in line with what economists were expecting, according to FactSet consensus estimates. However, falling gas prices helped to keep the lid on any gains. Many states are seeing gas prices below $3 a gallon, a trend that’s expected to continue in the coming weeks as global supply eclipses demand.

Growth on a constant currency basis held steady from the second quarter at 19%, breaking a three-quarter streak of accelerating revenue growth. Quarterly results As for the rest of the company, Amazon delivered revenue beats across Online Stores (7% revenue growth), Subscription Services (11% revenue growth), and Advertising Services (19% revenue growth). Former FTX executive Nishad Singh was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release on Wednesday, becoming the fourth ex-employee of the collapsed crypto exchange to be punished. Just before the hearing began, Singh was alone, pacing the elevator bank, as he rehearsed his statement from a single printed page. In March, Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to pay $11 billion. Ray said Singh made substantial productions of documents, and he voluntarily returned Bahamian real estate purchased with FTX funds.
