There is no evidence that former U.S. President Donald Trump published a statement comparing former speakers of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy and Paul Ryan. The statement circulated online after McCarthy was ousted by a handful of Republicans, making him the first speaker to be removed from the post. The last two Republican speakers, Paul Ryan and John Boehner, retired from Congress in 2018 and 2015 respectively, Reuters reported. The purported statement dated Oct. 3, 2023, reads in part: “Kevin McCarthy, who did a very poor job as Speaker of the House, has just been removed. New York CNN Business —A New York judge ruled last week that former President Donald Trump inflated the value of his Mar-a-Lago estate by an eye-popping 2,300%. But the Mar-a-Lago finding in particular is raising eyebrows among real estate and legal experts because of the metric Judge Engoron relied on: the county tax assessor’s appraisal value. It’s a well-known fact,” said Eli Beracha, chair of the school of real estate at Florida International University. “A discrepancy of this order of magnitude, by a real estate developer sizing up his own living space of decades, can only be considered fraud,” Engoron wrote. Cintron, the Harrington Ocko & Monk partner, doesn’t think the Mar-a-Lago valuation controversy moves the needle on the question of whether Trump committed fraud.

CNN —Taylor Swift broke sports media when she showed up to the Kansas City Chiefs game on Sunday, seated next to tight end Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna. The outing capped a frenzied period of speculation in which the rumor mill had been working overtime to speculate whether Swift and Kelce were, in fact, an item. Swift has been incredibly vocal about how much she dislikes when people speculate about her dating life. “I feel like watching my dating life has become a bit of a national pastime,” she told Rolling Stone in 2014. “Taylor is very focused on work right now and hanging out with her girlfriends,” a source told People magazine.

Some mosquitoes are actually helpfulThe first problem to tackle here is the word “all.” There are more than 3,000 recognized mosquito species worldwide. Healy, who is also president of the American Mosquito Control Association, offered Louisiana, which is home to many swamps where mosquitoes thrive, as an example. “Disease-transmitting mosquito species, such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, are invasive species in many parts of the world. As for the Anopheles mosquitoes, which transmit malaria, things are a little different. … We are constantly educating mosquito control workers to follow these practices.

Just 1 in 5 savers have competitive interest rates of 3% or better on their cash, a Bankrate survey from earlier this year found. Here are several mistakes with cash that financial advisors say investors should try to avoid. For savers who are keeping large balances in accounts providing low interest rates, Harrington said he tries to explain to them that they are losing spending power over time. If you have a financial advisor, you should be talking to them about all of your cash savings, according to Lane at Flourish. While financial advisors tend to believe they manage all of their clients' money, no financial advisor truly does, Lane said.

CNN —Take the dogs for a walk or play a round of golf? Why not both, said Pádraig Harrington. Playing in a Pro-Am event ahead of his home tournament at the DP World (European) Tour’s Irish Open on Wednesday, the Dublin-born golfer brought along his two Bernese Mountain Dogs to keep him company. The excitement of the day looked to have caught up with the pair eventually, though, with a later post on X from Harrington showing them sprawled out across the kitchen floor. “When you actually do something, it can be quite dramatic,” Harrington told reporters Tuesday.
