Conditions in southern Gaza have become so desperate that some civilians who fled there said they are now returning to the north , where bombing is more intense. Feda Bassiouni, a 33-year-old mother, left her home in Gaza City and headed to southern Gaza on Saturday with her 2-year-old daughter, thinking they would be safer there. But short of food and water, she said the search for refuge feels pointless and she is considering returning home. “If we’re going to die anyway, I’d rather die in my own home,” she said. “I don’t know if my house is still there, but I’m sure to find some of my daughter’s toys.”

An image of an Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 9, 2023, has been incorrectly described online as showing Israel bombing airports in Syria’s Damascus and Aleppo. Syrian authorities said their Damascus and Aleppo hubs were put out of service after Israeli missile attacks on Oct. 12. Aleppo airport was hit again in an air strike late on Oct. 14, the Syrian defence ministry said. The photograph in fact shows an airstrike on Gaza, not Syria. The image shows an Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip in October 2023, not Syria.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Charles and Kathleen Moore are about to have their day in the Supreme Court over a $15,000 tax bill they contend is unconstitutional. "If you haven’t received any income, how can you be required to pay income taxes?” Charles Moore asks in a video posted by the Competitive Enterprise Institute. But far from being a passive investor with no influence over the company, Moore, who worked at Microsoft during his career in software development, served on KisanKraft's board of directors for five years. One other inconsistency is that while the Moores say they jointly invested the money, only Charles Moore's name appears in company documents. Hamas's idea for Saturday's attack on Israel dates to 2021, when the militant group began preparing intensively by studying the tactics and strategies of its opponent, according to Abu Obaida, the spokesman for Hamas's military wing, on its Telegram account. "Our forces achieved an unprecedented military victory in the history of conflict with the Zionist enemy," he said. Already, he said the result was "more than we had planned." The group's plan was to deploy 3,000 fighters for the battle, and another 1,500 for backup and support. It's been nearly a decade since Israel last invaded Gaza, giving Hamas ample time to prepare. In Gaza, Israeli forces may be vulnerable to traps, surprise guerrilla warfare tactics, and well-armed militants who have the advantage of defending the complex terrain. The death toll from the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza continued to rise as the fighting entered a fourth day on Tuesday. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that 830 people have been killed in Gaza and 4,250 people injured since the fighting began. In the West Bank, 19 people have been killed and about 110 injured over the past two days, the ministry said.
