The head of the world's largest international carrier was speaking in the midst of negotiations to buy dozens of Airbus A350-1000 jets powered by Rolls-Royce's XWB-97 engine, which have foundered for now over maintenance and pricing issues. I happen to be a service," Emirates President Tim Clark told reporters this week. INSURANCE-TYPE DEALSWhile the visible face of engine makers is technology, the way they generate much of their income resembles insurance. Rather than charge for repairs as they arise, engine makers increasingly strike long-term deals priced by the flight hour, agreeing to swallow the cost of planned and unexpected outages. To engine makers it means generating cash as soon as the engine enters service rather than waiting for shop visits.

Miniatures of windmill, solar panel and electric pole are seen in front of Siemens Energy logo in this illustration taken January 17, 2023. A producer of key equipment such as gas turbines, converter stations and wind turbines, Siemens Energy is viewed by the German government as vital to its energy transition from fossil fuels to renewables. Frankfurt-listed shares in Siemens Energy were up 3% at 0757 GMT. Siemens Gamesa, once considered the future growth driver for Siemens Energy, has become a millstone around the group's neck after deeper-than-expected wind turbine quality issues were disclosed in June. As part of the financial backing agreed with stakeholders, Siemens Energy said it would sell an 18% stake in Indian firm Siemens Ltd (SIEM.NS) to Siemens AG at a discount of 15%, confirming a previous Reuters story.

LONDON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Britain's King Charles celebrates his 75th birthday on Tuesday and will use the occasion to launch a new scheme to tackle food poverty and cut down on waste. The king, who has spent more than five decades as an outspoken campaigner on environmental issues and supporter of a sustainable economy, will officially launch the 'Coronation Food Project', his mission to try to stop people going hungry. With his wife, Queen Camilla, Charles will spend his birthday visiting a surplus food distribution centre. He will meet major British supermarkets to see how his project can help redistribute food which would otherwise go to waste. The project says 14 million people in Britain face food insecurity, and as the rising cost of living has pushed even more into food poverty, charities say there has been a 38% rise in those using food banks for the first time in the year to March 2023.

Photos suggest the giant wiper might actually be made of multiple wipers attached to each other. AdvertisementAdvertisementAs more details surface about Tesla's long-awaited Cybertruck, one feature that's gotten a lot of attention is the Cybertruck's ridiculously large windshield wiper. New photos seem to reveal that it might actually be multiple wiper blades stacked in a row on top of each other. Is the Cybertruck’s wiper actually multiple wipers in a row? The added windshield wiper now rests vertically alongside the driver's side of the windshield when not in use.

A European company has canceled plans to build blades for offshore wind turbines in coastal Virginia, the latest sign of struggle within the U.S.'s nascent industry. Dominion said its 176-turbine project will be the largest offshore wind farm under development in the U.S. The main appeal of offshore wind for supporters, including environmentalists and many state governments, is that it doesn't burn fossil fuels and therefore drive climate change. But opponents claim offshore wind is inherently unworkable without massive financial subsidies. But the costs of renewable energy — wind, solar, and other forms — have been declining, while becoming increasingly competitive, he said.

In winter, moist air from the Black Sea mixes with cold mountain air to produce plentiful powder snow at altitude from January to April. “It was probably my best day’s skiing ever.”Apres ski here is low key, with hot baths, games of table tennis or massages. On bad weather days, alternative activities include skiing from the snowcat, snow shoeing or ski touring. The Kaçkar mountains could soon be on the world ski map, and not just for heli-skiing. “We will be very happy if, one day, there is a ski resort in Ayder,” says Gasser.

Before there was tourism, there was pilgrimage: a trip of endurance, hardship and ecstasy in celebration of one’s faith. On an epic pilgrimage of his own, one writer ventures into the heart of three great religions in Bolivia, Mongolia and Iraq. The Imam Hussein shrine in Karbala the day after Ashura. “They’re poor, but they come thousands of kilometers for the love of Imam Hussein.” PILGRIMAGE WAS A great equalizer. “Labaik ya Hussein,” came the solemn chorus of surrounding voices.

A project to develop a facility described as the United States' "first commercial-scale offshore wind project" continues to move forward after its first turbine was installed in waters off Martha's Vineyard. In an announcement Wednesday, Avangrid — which is part of the Iberdrola Group — and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners said the Vineyard Wind 1 project would eventually have more than 60 turbines. "The project will consist of 62 wind turbines to generate 806 Megawatts, enough to power more than 400,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts," Wednesday's announcement said. Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra described the news as "a monumental achievement and a proud day for offshore wind in the United States," adding that there was "important work ahead" to install the project's remaining turbines.

A project described as the "world's largest offshore wind farm" took a major step forward over the weekend after producing its first power. Located off the coast of northeast England in the North Sea, the Dogger Bank Wind Farm is being developed in three phases — A, B and C — and will have a total capacity of 3.6 gigawatts once fully up and running. "The project's first turbine at Dogger Bank A started turning and producing electricity at 8.37pm BST on Saturday 7 October," the Dogger Bank Wind Farm Project said in an announcement Monday. "Power from the first offshore wind turbine is now being transmitted to the UK's national grid via Dogger Bank's high-voltage direct current ... transmission system, marking the first-time use of HVDC technology on a UK wind farm," it added. CNN —This summer’s record-breaking marine heat wave may have been the “nail in the coffin” for an iconic species of coral that serves as a building block of marine life around Florida. They were also the first coral species to gain protected status under the Endangered Species Act, Jennifer Moore, a threatened coral expert for NOAA told CNN. Staghorn coral may have faired slightly better than elkhorn this summer, Williamson said, but still faces similar long term challenges. Scientists fear this summer's ocean heat was the "nail in the coffin" for elkhorn and staghorn species. “We are definitely looking at a major mortality event, we just won’t know the extent of it for a couple more months,” Moore told CNN.

AOG Technics could not be reached for comment. The CFM56 is the most sold jet engine in history and was developed by a transatlantic venture that turns 50 next year. The findings cover thousands of parts for the CFM56 engine as well as hundreds of parts for GE's CF6 engines, used mainly on commercial freighters.
