CNN —Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo took a dip in the city’s River Seine on Wednesday in a bid to demonstrate the cleanliness of the river for the Olympics. There have been ongoing concerns that E. coli in the Seine could pose a risk to athlete health. Julien De Rosa/AFP/Getty ImagesOfficial data shows one-off rainfall events can quickly cause E. coli levels to spike again, and as recently as June 30, following rain the previous day, E. coli levels increased to around 2000 CFU/100mL at Alexandra III Bridge. Tests last week for the first time showed acceptable bacteria levels, according to a statement by the mayor’s office. A recent rehearsal on June 24 was cancelled due to strong water flows caused by heavy rainfall.

The researchers determined children’s nicotine levels using blood samples taken between 2017 and 2020. The children in the study with the lowest nicotine levels were those who had no exposure to secondhand aerosols of any kind at home. Earlier studies have found similar nicotine exposure among children in homes with cigarette and e-cigarette users. Some of his research has shown much higher nicotine levels in e-cigarette households than in the new study. In 2020, Galiatsatos published what is believed to be the first study to document significant injury in an adult with secondhand e-cigarette exposure.

As recently as June 30, following rain the previous day, E. Coli levels increased to around 2000 CFU/100mL at Alexandra III Bridge. But E. Coli levels near Alexandra III Bridge still climbed to around 10000 CFU/100mL on the second day of rain. Longer term trends show there has been a “significant improvement” in water quality, according to Dan Angelescu, the company’s CEO. That’s more than three times higher than the level needed for “good” water quality, according to CNN’s calculation. In comparison, between June 24 and July 5, average E. Coli levels dropped to around 880 MPN/100mL, according to Fluidion.

The court dismissed an appeal brought by Idaho officials, meaning a lower court ruling that allows doctors in the state to perform abortions in emergency situations remains in effect for now. The legislation, known as the Defense of Life Act, went into effect in 2022 when the Supreme Court rolled back Roe. The Supreme Court in January allowed Idaho to enforce the provisions while agreeing to hear oral arguments in the case. The emergency room dispute is one of two abortion cases the Supreme Court considered this term, both of which arose in the aftermath of the 2022 decision to overturn Roe.

But California is now moving toward an outright ban on chrome plating using hexavalent chromium while offering funding for chrome platers to transition to other methods. CNN —Microsoft and Google will offer free or discounted cybersecurity services to rural hospitals across the United States to make them less vulnerable to cyberattacks that have disrupted patient care and threatened lives, the White House and Microsoft said Monday. Microsoft said in a statement to CNN that it would provide free security updates for eligible rural hospitals, as well as security assessments and training for hospital staff. CNN —The Texas Supreme Court said a medical exemption in the state’s abortion ban applies only when a person is at risk of death or serious physical impairment, ruling Friday against women who sued the state with claims that the ban had put their health at risk. “Because the trial court’s order opens the door to permit abortion to address any pregnancy risk, it is not a faithful interpretation of the law,” the state Supreme Court said. The Texas Supreme Court said the challengers did not prove the abortion ban, with its narrow medical emergency exemption, violated the state constitution. “Today, the Supreme Court of Texas unanimously upheld the Human Life Protection Act, one of our state’s pro-life laws,” said Paxton, a Republican.
