AdvertisementI don't miss red meat at allI used to eat a lot of red meat. That was one of the near-instantaneous benefits I noticed when I started following a Mediterranean diet. Fortunately, it's really easy to make budget-friendly swaps and still stick to a Mediterranean diet. There isn't just one Mediterranean dietI think one of the biggest misconceptions I had about the Mediterranean diet before I started following it was that it was pretty limited. Although a Mediterranean diet can be Greek, French, Spanish, and Italian, it's also Turkish, Lebanese, Israeli, and Moroccan.

THERE’S NO PARTY I love more than a holiday party. A fabulous frock, a little lippy, something special to sip on. But this year, instead of shots and Champagne towers (which I adore), I’m craving something more relaxed. For a drink that still feels special but also suits nights when I don’t feel like tearing up the dance floor, I can think of nothing more perfect than vermouth. Strangely, it’s taken me years to figure out how to re-create this social ritual at home.

Why Gen Zers skip their lunch break
  + stars: | 2023-11-15 | by ( Tim Paradis | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +4 min
Gen Z workers are most likely to skip lunch at least once a week, a survey found. Seven in 10 Gen Z workers report they don't take lunch at least once a week. That's compared with about half of millennial workers and four in 10 Gen Xers who skip lunch. Of course, not all Gen Zers skip lunch. Beyond what a lunch break does for us at work, eating at the right times can boost health, according to scientists.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — The tiny Caribbean island of Dominica is creating the world’s first marine protected area for one of earth’s largest animals: the endangered sperm whale. Sperm whales defecate near the surface because they shut down non-vital functions when they dive to depths of up to 10,000 feet (3,000 meters). And sperm whales in Dominica are believed to defecate more than whales elsewhere, said Shane Gero, a whale biologist and founder of the Dominica Sperm Whale Project, a research program focused on sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean. He noted that sperm whales are a matrilineal society, with young males leaving and switching oceans at some point in their lives. Another sperm whale was nicknamed “Fruit Salad” because a researcher happened to be snacking on that at the time.

Fiona, a now-famous and once-lonely British sheep, is at the center of a social media frenzy as well as a local dispute. Farmers rescued her on Saturday by hoisting her up a hill after she spent at least two years by herself at the bottom of a Scottish cliff, snacking on grass and hiding from the elements in a cave. Fiona — so named because a sheep named Shrek had been in a similar position in New Zealand almost 20 years ago — has been moved to Dalscone Farm in Dumfries, about 25 miles north of the border with England, where she is set to live out the rest of her days. While it’s not known how Fiona ended up at the bottom of a cliff, it is likely that she got separated from her mother before falling or wandering down the hill and ended up at the bottom without a path back up.

McDonald's has served Coke products since Ray Kroc opened his first franchised location, and is the beverage company's largest restaurant customer. Still, the stock market impact left some food manufacturers "trembling," said John Plassard, senior investment specialist at Nestle investor Mirabaud Group. The use of Eli Lilly 's Mounjaro for weight loss can pull shoppers away from the snack aisle — though the transition will likely be gradual, according to Morgan Stanley. Kaufman noted a six-week study presented at ObesityWeek that showed users of Mounjaro cut calories and weight at a faster clip. The study also produced evidence that medication takers had a "significant reduction in food consumption," as well as fewer cravings for sweets and fast food fats. And while taking Mounjaro reduced food cravings overall, it had a particular impact on sweets, the study found. All four of the snack makers Kaufman said to watch have lost share value in 2023.

The purveyor of Gatorade and Cheetos boosted operating profit 14%, to about $4 billion, after hiking prices by at least 10% for the seventh consecutive quarter. The quantity of drinks and snacks sold is slumping, however, and anti-obesity drugs are just starting to make their mark. Pepsi’s shares have tumbled 14% since May, lagging the 5% gain in the S&P 500 Index (.SPX) over the same period.
