CNN —Russia’s first and only openly transgender politician has said she is no longer detransitioning, telling CNN that she had been previously driven by fear of Russia’s ban on gender reassignment. “It was my sincere desire,” she told CNN. “I am a patriot of my country, that’s why I live in Russia,” Alyoshina said. Unable to leave the country, Alyoshina told CNN she still does not feel safe but explained the need to come forward with the statement to stay true to herself.
