The iPhone 15 features a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port which has been standard for more than decade. YouTuber Marques Brownlee says the new port lets the iPhone 15 transfer battery power to older iPhones. iPhone 15 devices can also communicate with each other to figure out which has a lower battery level, he said. AdvertisementAdvertisementInsider also tested this feature by plugging in the iPhone 15 Pro to an iPhone 13 Pro and noticed that the iPhone 15 Pro acted as a power bank and automatically started charging the iPhone 13. When Insider connected the iPhone 15 Pro to the iPhone 15, the two devices performed a handshake to recognize that the iPhone 15 had a much higher battery charge, and the iPhone 15 then started charging the iPhone 15 Pro.

China is bitter medicine for Europe’s EV pivot

LONDON, Sept 12 (Reuters Breakingviews) - China can offer a bitter medicine for Europe’s bold electric vehicle pivot. That has prompted carmakers to develop premium e-cars for richer punters, rather than mass market vehicles. More competition from Chinese carmakers should help bring down prices of electric vehicles in Europe. It will force Western players to keep cutting costs to avoid losing too much market share, boosting overall e-car adoption. Sales of EVs picked up in August, with Jefferies analysts estimating a total market share across Europe of 23%.

Artificial intelligence can help tackle climate change, but to fulfill that promise companies need to find a way to limit AI’s own climate impact. Alphabet’s Google and American Airlines used AI to help planes create fewer vapor trails, which contribute to global warming. For many companies using AI there are both positive and negative effects on their carbon emissions and water use. In the U.S., where there is no central electric grid, training models in one state versus another can have a significant impact on carbon emissions. A Google data center in Oregon.

Prominent tech reviewer and YouTuber MKBHD weighed in on the age-old Apple vs. Android debate. This video comes after Instagram head Adam Mosseri reignited the debate by declaring Android better. To figure out your own personal winner, Brownlee suggested viewers give each of the 7 categories a rating from 1 to 5 based on how much they care about it. Then, based on the earlier head-to-head, viewers should add up the scores they gave all of the iPhone-won categories and the scores they gave to the Android-won categories. AdvertisementAdvertisementFollowing this weighted system, Brownlee found his personal winner was Android, which he said he uses as his main device while also using an iPhone.

REUTERS/Leonhard Foeger Acquire Licensing RightsSAO PAULO, Aug 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian cosmetics maker Natura &Co (NTCO3.SA) said on Monday its board of directors had authorized the company to search for "strategic alternatives" for its subsidiary The Body Shop, including a potential sale of the business. The move comes after the Brazilian company in April agreed to sell its luxury brand Aesop to French cosmetics group L'Oreal (OREP.PA) at an enterprise value of $2.53 billion. Natura grew through high profile acquisitions in recent years, including the purchase of The Body Shop from L'Oreal in 2017, but has now been looking for "discipline" and deleveraging as it aims to bring back profitability. "There can be no assurance that this process will result in any transaction," Natura said in a securities filing about the potential Body Shop deal.

HONG KONG, Aug 23 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Volkswagen’s (VOWG_p.DE) China shortcut sets a tricky roadmap for its western rivals. Tesla began to open some of its exclusive Supercharging stations to other electric vehicles earlier this year. But the cords are designed for Teslas, meaning that owners of some other cars need to use two spaces to plug in. There's just one kink that Elon Musk hasn't ironed out: The charging cables, which were designed for Teslas, aren't long enough to comfortably accommodate some other cars. That poses a problem when other electric cars, which may have their charging ports elsewhere, try to charge up. Tesla owners sometimes experience long lines at charging stations, particularly during popular travel times.

The new law’s resolutions could potentially have far-reaching effects on those running alojamento local (AL) properties – including Portugal’s world-renowned hostels. On Thursday, regulators orchestrated an agreement between Tesla (TSLA.O) and 15 Chinese rivals to avoid “abnormal pricing”, sealing the deal at a signing ceremony in Shanghai, Bloomberg reported. Perhaps as a result, sellers of internal combustion engines frequently offered steeper discounts compared to battery-powered rivals, Citi’s data show. In this case, at least, it appears to be trying to keep competition healthy, targeting only “abnormal pricing”. If nothing else, Beijing’s intervention offers a welcome pause in hostilities. Over 30 brands in China announced discounts in the first three months of the year, according to industry consultancy Automobility.

Electric vehicles drove that change. In the first quarter of 2023, Russians purchased more Chinese cars than Lada, the beloved Soviet-era marque. That helps Chinese manufacturers churn out an electric vehicle for around 10,000 euros less than European competitors, according to Grant Thornton. Among the growing list of unwelcoming policies, the European Commission’s trade defence unit is considering ways to stem the tide of Chinese electric vehicle imports, according to Politico. Apple's $3,499 Vision Pro headset was the main focus of its Monday event. The Apple Vision Pro headset was the biggest announcement at its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday, but there's nothing beyond official ads that show people actually using the $3,499 device. If you want to see the Vision Pro in use, you'll have to wait a bit longer to see anything that isn't curated by the people selling it. Apple execs also declined to speak on the record about the headset, Wired reported. Despite this, the Vision Pro is getting pretty good reviews, and you'd hope so given its huge price tag.

Following the announcement of Apple's Vision Pro headset at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, some attendees were whisked away in golf carts to a location on the company's campus to try out the new headset. Many noted the device's display screens were impressive (each have a more-than 4K resolution) and its hand-eye scrolling and tapping functions were responsive and worked mostly smoothly. YouTuber Brownlee said the most impressive thing about the headset was the device's internal eye-tracking technology, calling the experience "telepathic." The Verge's Patel was impressed by the device's display, which he said was "easily the highest-resolution VR display I have ever seen," and its "video passthrough" technology — the device's display adjusting to show a person who is talking to you in-person or your surroundings. "The most perfect headset demo reel of all time is still just a headset demo reel — whether Apple's famed developer community can generate a killer app for the Vision Pro is still up in the air," The Verge's Patel wrote.

The initial reviews were mixed and skeptics questioned whether even Apple could make virtual reality anything more than a niche technology. But boosters say that if any company can make it mainstream, it’s Apple with its ecosystem of two billion iPhone, iPad and Mac users. “We believe Apple Vision Pro is a revolutionary product,” Tim Cook told developers and journalists on Monday. It certainly looks like an Apple product: Unlike other virtual reality headsets, an external display shows your eyes to others, and the device is controlled using hand gestures, eye movements and your voice. “The most perfect headset demo reel of all time is still just a headset demo reel,” wrote Nilay Patel of The Verge.

Mercedes won't join Renault's new electric van project-sources

PARIS, June 2 (Reuters) - Mercedes Benz Group (MBGn.DE), a longtime partner of Renault (RENA.PA) in vans, won't take part in the French company's FlexEvan electric project and will focus instead on its own premium electric vehicle VAN.EA, two sources with knowledge of the matter said. A spokeswoman of Mercedes confirmed that the group had no plan to launch a mid-sized van or a large one on a different platform than VAN.EA. Renault has long sought to expand its cooperation in vans with Mercedes, but in vain.
