A UK study last year found a four-day workweek decreased stress and anxiety for nearly 3,000 workers. They also said tax credits would vary from business to business to optimize the benefits of credits, Boston.com reported. A similar bill was pulled from consideration in Maryland in March after the bill's sponsor said companies told him assistance from the government on implementing the new schedule would be more helpful than tax credits, according to WYPR.

A pair of Massachusetts lawmakers are the latest to try and make the four-day workweek a reality. Rep. Dylan Fernandes of Falmouth and Rep. Josh Cutler of Duxbury filed legislation this week to create a voluntary program, the "Massachusetts Smart Work Week Pilot," that would create a tax credit for businesses who move their workers to a shorter week for the same pay. Participating businesses would be required to transition at least 15 workers to a 32-hour, four-day weekly schedule without reducing their salaries. Employers would receive a tax credit in exchange for regularly reporting the shortened week's economic and social impact in their organization, such as on employee wellbeing and work-life balance. The legislation will now be directed to a committee and considered in a committee hearing.

BTG confirmed the decision in a securities filing, but did not give details. Americanas told Reuters in a statement that the "unilateral action taken by its creditors harms its viability", adding it was still seeking a short-term solution for its creditors. Later on Wednesday, Brazilian lender Bradesco (BBDC4.SA) said it had asked a Rio de Janeiro court to only allow Americanas to withdraw funds from the bank with prior approval. Americanas confirmed that Bradesco withheld more than 450 million reais ($86.77 million) from the company's cash position, "acting in disagreement with the injunction" the retailer had obtained protecting it from creditors.
