SHEFFIELD, England, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Newcastle United ruthlessly put Sheffield United to the sword with a dazzling 8-0 victory at Bramall Lane on Sunday, with eight different players scoring, to leave the home side bottom of the Premier League standings. "It's the second half that I'm upset with. A lot of things I saw in the second half, I've never seen here. While there are huge things we have to learn from, we also have to keep a calm head about this sort of game." Chelsea's woes continued as they lost at home to Aston Villa and Sheffield United slumped to the bottom of the table as they suffered a humiliating 8-0 home thrashing by Newcastle United in which eight different Newcastle players scored. The first north London Premier League derby since 2014 not to feature Harry Kane produced an enthralling contest at The Emirates where the two unbeaten sides went toe-to-toe. Arsenal twice led, first through Cristian Romero's 26th-minute own goal, and again thanks to Bukayo Saka's penalty early in the second half. Mitoma then wrapped up the points as Brighton moved above Tottenham and Arsenal with 15 points. Newcastle ran riot at Sheffield United in the weekend's final action as they put eight past the hapless Blades -- their biggest win in the Premier League since they put eight past Sheffield Wednesday in 1999.

NEWCASTLE, England, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Darwin Nunez came off the bench to score twice as Liverpool snatched a sensational 2-1 Premier League win at Newcastle United on Sunday, with the visitors bouncing back from a straight red card in the first half for captain Virgil van Dijk. "I feel very happy for the team to be able to help them," a beaming Nunez told Sky Sports, with keeper Alisson acting as his translator. We work really hard for these moments, and I am happy to score the two goals to help the team," he added. NORAD scrambled 2 fighter jets after an aircraft flew too close to President Joe Biden's vacation spot. The jets fired flares near the civilian pilot to get their attention. No information about the civilian aircraft or its pilot was released. AdvertisementAdvertisementF-16 intercepts of civilian aircraft that venture too close to where the president is are not uncommon. For instance, NORAD sortied F-16 fighter aircraft to intercept a Cessna, popping flares in the process, after it entered the temporary restricted airspace while Biden was delivering a speech in California last October.

Interest in “Rich Men North of Richmond,” which was streamed 17.5 million times on services like Spotify and Apple Music in its first week of release, partly grew in the manner of a typical viral track, according to the service Luminate, whose data fuels the Billboard charts. Much of the consumer activity that drove the track to No. 1 came via 99-cent digital downloads from outlets like the iTunes Store — an outdated format that is declining in popularity faster than CDs. Despite streaming now accounting for more than 80 percent of music consumption overall, paid downloads are weighted more on the charts, a quirk exploited regularly by pop superfans devoted to acts like Ms. In often coordinated efforts, they use downloads to show support and earn chart milestones that are celebrated like wins in sports or political elections.

Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Not everyone with debt would have been covered under the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness plan. The Supreme Court has barred the Biden administration from carrying out its plan to extinguish up to $20,000 in federal student loan debt, and millions of borrowers will continue to struggle under the weight of their loans. Ms. Schmidt owes $64,000 in student debt, more than half of which is for her graduate work in nursing. But she’s already contemplating how she’ll finance her dream of becoming a civil rights lawyer, which typically requires an additional six figures in student debt. Yet her mother is still paying down student debt of her own.

The military jet caused a sonic boom while pursuing the small plane, which later crashed. It was not immediately clear why the plane was nonresponsive, why it crashed, or who was on board. The fighter jet caused a loud sonic boom across the capital region. A US official confirmed to The Associated Press the military jet had scrambled to respond to the small plane, which later crashed. The North American Aerospace Defense Command later said the F-16 was authorized to travel at supersonic speeds, which caused a sonic boom.

Xponential Fitness CEO Anthony Geisler sits down with Jim Cramer to talk quarterly earnings resultsXponential Fitness CEO Anthony Geisler joins 'Mad Money' host Jim Cramer to discuss quarterly earnings results, outlook for the second half of the year, and the pandemic recovery period.
Some of the major players in the fitness sector have pushed the envelope on membership rates after the pandemic scare, helping them beef up earnings, when most other industries are under stress from the impact of a cautious consumer. Larger rival Planet Fitness Inc (PLNT.N) added 400,000 members in the fourth quarter, taking the total to about 17 million in 2022. "People that are working out, are working out slightly more than they did in the past ... So even with the recessionary talks and layoffs you see, cancellations are just slightly better," Planet Fitness CEO Chris Rondeau said at a JPMorgan conference last week. A Planet Fitness executive said Gen Z represented 25% of the company's total membership.
White Claw is moving into spirits amid an industry-wide shift away from hard seltzers. The spiked seltzer brand announced Tuesday a new line of regular and flavored White Claw Premium Vodka. The bottles are available in select markets across North America and come in an unflavored option, as well pineapple, mango and black cherry. "We spent almost a decade researching and developing a new way to show drinkers what complexity looks, tastes, and feels like within the minimalist experience of vodka," said Anthony von Mandl, founder and chief executive of the Mark Anthony Group, which owns the White Claw brand, in a press release. The company says it's invented a new way to filter vodka to achieve a "minimal yet complex combination of aromas and sensations."
It will play out and reverberate for years or decades, Hagen told me. “The pathological normal,” Hagen calls it: a patchwork of homespun, bespoke realities, each one invested in a different story about what exactly happened when Covid ruptured the story of our lives. garb.”More than once, life seemed to be attaining “an uncanny resemblance to normal life,” as one man put it. But because we don’t totally understand where that experience has delivered us, we don’t know the right gloss to give it. “The days are strange,” one public-school teacher told Milstein toward the end of his first interview, in May 2020.
The tumult that broke out last month during the election of Kevin McCarthy for speaker illustrated the potential for profound dysfunction in the new House Republican majority. Here is a closer look at the fractious House Republican caucus. Chart of House Republicans highlights members who denied the 2020 election results, were supported by the House Freedom Fund, or both. Representative Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, who has also denied the 2020 election results, defeated Representative Liz Cheney in the primary. A Venn diagram shows the Republican newcomers in the House who either denied the 2020 election results, were supported by the House Freedom Fund, or both.
Fox News said that the Secret Service is willing to give Congress a list of visitors to Biden's home if asked. "Like every president in decades of modern history, his personal residence is personal," the White House Counsel's Office said on Monday. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi similarly told reporters that the agency does not keep visitor logs for private residences. If the agency did give up records of Biden's visitors to Congress, it would mark a different approach during Trump's presidency. While no official records are kept, the way they are for White House visitors, there are electronic reports that are generated and kept.
"Like every President across decades of modern history, his personal residence is personal," the White House Counsel's office said in a statement. The Secret Service, which is tasked with protecting current and past presidents and their families, does not "independently maintain our own visitor logs because it’s a private residence," agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. The Republican chairman of the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, James Comer,on Sunday demanded visitor logs for Democrat Biden's house in Wilmington after classified documents were found in his office and garage there. Democrats have unsuccessfully sought visitor logs for Trump's Florida home for years. Biden restored the tradition of keeping White House visitors logs, including publishing them regularly, after the Trump administration ended doing that, the White House counsel noted in Monday's statement.
The White House and U.S. Secret Service said Monday they do not maintain visitor logs for President Joe Biden’s personal home in Wilmington, Del., a day after a top House Republican called for their release. “Like every President across decades of modern history, his personal residence is personal,” White House counsel’s office spokesman Ian Sams said in a statement. The White House acknowledged on Saturday that more pages with classified markings were discovered at Biden's Delaware home than had been previously disclosed. On Saturday, the White House said additional pages marked classified from the Obama administration were found at Biden’s Wilmington residence, in addition to the two batches that were previously disclosed earlier in the week. In a Sunday interview with CNN”s “State of the Union,” Comer was pressed why his committee was focused on Biden’s documents but not Trump’s.
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Parents at the Virginia elementary school where a 6-year-old boy shot a first-grade teacher this month are demanding answers for how the child managed to use the weapon after his backpack was searched. If the backpack was searched, they didn’t search it right,” said Desiree Yvette, whose 6-year-old daughter witnessed the Jan. 6 shooting at Richneck Elementary School in which Abigail Zwerner was critically wounded. Thomas Britton, 35, questioned the steps school officials took after they learned the child may have taken a gun into the school. “Once the news dropped it, that’s when a lot of parents started rushing to the school with mass confusion,” Garcia said. Drew said Sunday the investigation entails looking into the boy and his parent’s history.
A school administrator in Newport News, Virginia, was alerted to a possible weapon on a 6-year-old boy before a first-grade teacher was shot, but a search of the student's bookbag that morning turned up empty, school district officials said. "At least one administrator was notified of a possible weapon," Parker said in a video reviewed by NBC News. The student's mother bought the gun used in the shooting legally, according to Newport News police. During the 2019-20 school year, less than 2% of public elementary schools performed random metal detector checks on students, schools, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Officials said there will be mental health clinicians for students and staff when school resumes, and that a security officer will be installed full-time at the school.
