Clarkson about “Madame Web” was that this was a superhero who did not have superhuman strength. Clarkson had long admired Dakota Johnson as an actor and was thrilled to get the chance to direct her. “It was important to me that we didn’t sort of, like, take ourselves too seriously. Forty-eight hours later, it seems Lyft's earnings mistake has reached meme level in business circles. My immediate thought was probably the same as most people when I heard the news: oof, that's a really, really bad mistake. In fact, in my Visa days, my wife and twin toddlers would decamp to grandma's house for two weeks because we knew I'd be fully consumed with the earnings process. While their intentions are almost always positive, it's essential to avoid team bloat in the earnings process. By prioritizing a meticulous approach to the process, companies can transform earnings season from a high-risk ordeal into a showcase of reliability and precision.

That sudden volatility highlights something that we often write about in Before the Bell: the major mismatch between policymaker and investor expectations for interest rate cuts this year. Federal Reserve officials, including Chair Jerome Powell, have repeatedly said they envision at most three rate cuts in 2024. Wall Street, meanwhile, has ignored those warnings and has opted to practice unflinching optimism instead. It’s not the first time they’ve had to learn an important lesson: Don’t fight the Fed. Bad for the markets, good for the Fed: Markets clearly don’t often take kindly to higher-for-longer interest rates, which can negatively impact earnings and stock prices.

A group of Adobe employees are upset over the company’s decision to host its MAX annual conference in Florida, citing the state’s “hostile” laws against marginalized groups. Earlier this month, more than 500 Adobe employees signed an internal petition demanding the company reconsider the location of the annual conference, scheduled to take place in Miami later this year. As company leaders reiterated their commitment to Miami for this year’s event, some Adobe employees took to the Slack channel to express their dismay. “I’m shocked and disappointed at the lack of consideration in that call,” one of the employees wrote in the internal Slack channel. "Adobe MAX is a celebration of our community and a platform to showcase the incredible impact that creativity has around the world.

Shares of JetBlue closed Monday at $6.07 a share before leaping to nearly $7 a share in morning trading. His purchases started on January 26, a week after a federal court blocked JetBlue’s proposed purchase of Spirit Airlines. The project, dubbed Metamorphosis, focuses on transforming what otherwise might be discarded into something of value to society: rotten wood into fine instruments, inmates into craftsmen, all under the principle of rehabilitation. Two inmates were granted leave to see the concert featuring 14 prison-made stringed instruments playing a program that included works by Bach and Vivaldi. Other inmates, like Nikolae, who joined Lamponi at La Scala, are permitted more latitude. His own rocky journey to a new country has given him an understanding of the desperation that drove migrants onto unseaworthy boats. Originally, the boats were being transformed into crucifixes and nativity scenes, but the inmates who were already trained luthiers thought: why not instruments?

Shares of JetBlue are rising more than 15% before the market open on Tuesday as activist investor Carl Icahn took an almost 10% stake in the airline. Icahn, who purchased the shares in January and February, said in a regulatory filing that he believe JetBlue's stock is undervalued and represents an attractive investment opportunity. He has had talks, and plans to continue talking with JetBlue in regards to possible representation on its board of directors. But shortly after the ruling, JetBlue told Spirit that it may terminate the deal. JetBlue has struggled to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic while its bigger rivals have returned to healthy profitability.

HOUSTON (AP) — A motive for why a woman in a trenchcoat opened fire in celebrity pastor Joel Osteen's megachurch in Texas remained unclear Monday after the shooting sent worshippers rushing for safety in between busy Sunday services. Police say two off-duty officers working security at Osteen's church, one of the largest megachurches in the U.S., shot and killed the suspect. Osteen said the violence could have been worse if the shooting had happened during the earlier and larger late Sunday morning service. Houston Police Chief Troy Finner did not identify the suspect at a news conference Sunday while standing near Osteen. The woman began shooting and was confronted by two off-duty officers, a Houston police officer and an agent with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, who returned fire.

All the Super Bowl Ads So Far, Ranked

In the spirit of “Who actually watches the game?,” here is our ranking of all the Super Bowl commercials we have been able to track down so far, from best to worst. Ground rules: Only ads being shown on the national CBS broadcast during the game are eligible. Certain spots, including several advocating a boycott of Tesla and a number of CBS promos for its own primetime series, were omitted from this ranking. Commercials not available beforehand or with a live component — including spots from FanDuel, TurboTax, the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism and the controversial Chinese e-commerce company Temu — will be added after the game. (If Travis Kelce proposes to Taylor Swift in a surprise ad for The Knot, we will probably have our winner.)

But when it assumed control of Astech, Boeing alleges it was "held hostage" by the family office and subject to a "bait and switch." The complaint says Boeing's contract with Astech was "lopsided" and leading it into bankruptcy because the pricing didn't even cover manufacturing costs. Another Boeing supplier, Spirit AeroSystems, is also facing scrutiny because it builds the Max 9 fuselage.
