Counterfeiting has ballooned into a massive problem for Crye, costing it millions of dollars a year, said Jonathan Antone, the company's general counsel. By 2016, sellers were speaking out about Amazon's growing counterfeit problem, telling CNBC of the company's effort to openly court Chinese manufacturers. "There's a lot more space on that digital shelf for potential counterfeit products," he added. Agents seized "multiple tractor trailer loads" of counterfeit MultiCam products, estimated to be worth $8 million, according to court documents. Crye showed CNBC examples of counterfeit MultiCam products that were allegedly sold by retailer L&Q Tactical, one of the defendants in the lawsuit, on Amazon.

Oil prices rose on Friday and are on track for a weekly gain of more than 1%, as tensions in the world's top oil-producing region, the Middle East, and a restart in Gaza ceasefire talks in the coming days kept traders on edge. Both benchmarks settled down 58 cents a barrel in the previous session after prices fluctuated against expectations of heightened or reduced tensions in the Middle East. Oil traders are waiting for Israel's response to a missile attack by Iran on Oct. 1 that may involve hitting Tehran's oil infrastructure and disrupt supplies, although reports said Israel would strike Iranian military, not nuclear or oil, targets. U.S. and Israeli officials are set to restart talks for a ceasefire and the release of hostages in Gaza in the coming days. Ceasefire talks have a small net negative impact on oil prices, Sycamore said, adding the focus is more on the conflict in Lebanon and Israel's potential response to Iran.

North Korea is solidifying ties with Russia, a change from its usual focus on China. AdvertisementRussian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday appeared to confirm reports that North Korea had sent thousands of troops to eastern Russia. "But the Chinese are waiting for an opportunity where North Korea, Russia, and China can come stronger together, and I think North Korea sending the troops to Russia is a testimony to that." AdvertisementFor North Korea, China has long been its most important ally, providing trade, diplomatic support, and military aid to Kim Jong Un. Jim Hoare, a former UK diplomat who was posted to North Korea, told BI that even if China was frustrated by North Korea's increasing closeness to Russia, it should bide its time.

Since Otto Schott invented specialty glass in 1884, the simple material has become a cornerstone of modern technology, and driving innovation. From semiconductors to clean energy, home tech, and electric vehicles, glass is the silent enabler of progress. Specially engineered laser glass helped researchers achieve what was once thought impossible: creating more energy from a reaction than was put into it. The light, amplified by active laser glass and focused through precisely crafted optical glass, delivered significant energy to a tiny fuel pellet, triggering a fusion reaction that produced a net energy gain. The fusion reaction generated 3.15 megajoules of energy, exceeding the 2.05 megajoules of laser energy delivered to the target.

The lack of uniformity allows both firms and employees to present themselves in the best light. This lack of uniformity and the relentless war for talent has firms and employees alike taking advantage of the ambiguity. Rokos has two dozen employees with the title "investment officer" in their LinkedIn profiles. At Coatue, executives sign off on what employees put as their title on LinkedIn, people familiar with the firm's operations said. Here are 13 top stocks that are cheap and have above-average earnings growth. Mega-cap growth stocks dusted their smaller peers for 18 months, beginning in early 2023. These firms have above-average earnings growth and cheaper-than-average valuations, and they have an impressive record of outperformance over the last few decades. Without potent earnings, GARP stocks could risk falling into the "value trap" category. Cheaper GARP stocks should become more appealing in that backdrop, according to BMO, and historical performance backs that up.

Israel is also heavily backed by the United States, which has supplied more than 29,000 guided bombs, artillery rockets and assorted missiles since 2009. A spiraling conflict between Iran and Israel, one of the United States’ closest allies, could pull U.S. forces positioned throughout the region into the fray. Israel has told the United States that it will not attack Iran’s nuclear or oil facilities in its expected attack. Though highly unlikely, an Israeli strike on Iran’s oil facilities could prompt Iran or its proxies to target refineries in Saudi Arabia or the U.A.E. This April, Iran’s attack involving more than 300 drones and missiles, in retaliation for Israel’s killing of seven Iranian officials in Syria, shattered that supposition.

Photo: Ulf Mauder/dpa (Photo by Ulf Mauder/picture alliance via Getty Images)Russia's central bank on Friday raised its key interest rate by 200 basis points to 21%, citing consumer price increases considerably above its forecast and warning of ongoing high inflation risks in the medium term. The key rate was previously taken up by 100 basis points to 19% in September. On Friday, the central bank noted annual seasonally adjusted inflation hit an average of 9.8% in September, up from 7.5% in August. "Over the medium-term horizon, the balance of inflation risks is still significantly tilted to the upside," the bank said in a statement. "The key risks are associated with persistently high inflation expectations and the upward deviation of the Russian economy from a balanced growth path, as well as with a deterioration in foreign trade conditions."

The final pre-election edition of the closely watched monthly jobs report is set to be published Nov. 1, four days ahead of Election Day. Amazon Prime wants to help you save on gas

Amazon’s newest savings benefit could alleviate some of that potential grief for its over 184 million Prime subscribers. How Amazon is retaining its leadFuel and energy probably isn’t the first sector to come to mind when you think of Amazon, but analysts say that the recent inclusion of gas savings doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. “Other retailers are still playing catch up to Amazon, and Amazon wants to retain its lead,” Saunders said.

Below, two gold experts share four ways investors can add gold to their portfolios. AdvertisementIn general, physical gold is a less liquid way to own the asset and is quite costly. Synthetic gold ETFs don't hold physical gold, investing instead in gold derivatives such as futures and options. In Milling-Stanley's opinion, investing in mining stocks instead of directly investing in gold erodes some of the metal's portfolio protection, as mining stocks behave more in line with the general equity market. Royalties limit the holder's exposure to the risks associated with directly investing in mines, such as exploration, development, and regulatory compliance.

Oil prices edge higher, on track for 3% weekly gain
  + stars: | 2024-10-24 | by ( ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
Oil prices edged higher on Thursday, recouping some of the more than 1% losses from the previous session after U.S. crude inventories rose much more than estimated. Brent was on track for a 3.2% gain in the week, while WTI was set to rise 2.9%. Last week oil fell more than 7% on worries about Chinese demand and easing concerns about potential disruptions of Middle East oil supplies. Smaller-than-expected rate cuts will temper the reduction in borrowing costs, which in turn could affect economic activity and oil demand. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes pounded Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday and Hezbollah said it fired precision guided missiles for the first time at Israeli targets, keeping markets nervous about supply.

Shares of carmaker Hyundai 's Indian subsidiary started trading this week with much anticipation, only to drop by some 7% on its debut. Despite such success, it appears as if the stock market has given Hyundai the cold shoulder this week. First, the money raised by the stock market listing is being fed back to Hyundai's Korean parent. With the listing, the Indian subsidiary now commands nearly half the market capitalization of its Korean parent. However, the Indian subsidiary must now pay a flat 3.5% of total revenue going forward.

The slump comes as investors price in higher odds of a Trump win in the upcoming US election. Emerging market stocks are headed for their worst monthly decline since January, with the MSCI Emerging Markets Index falling for a fourth day on Thursday for a 3.1% decline this month.
