Here’s what to watch as the clock ticks down:Which plants would go on strike? One advantage of a targeted strike for the union is the potential to save resources and extend a possible walkout. Striking union members are eligible for $500 a week from the union’s strike fund. Ford has not had a national strike since 1976 and has not had a strike of any kind at its US plants since 1978. Another is the still-inverted Treasury yield curve, meaning yields on shorter-duration government bonds are higher than those with longer durations. VMware employees received an email this week laying out what their fates could be when Broadcom closes its $61 billion acquisition of the cloud computing and virtualization company. Sutter had cautioned that employees should "expect a feeling of acceleration" as the close date approaches and that Broadcom is "driving the playbook," the email said. According to the email, VMware employees will have one of three options for their employment status: receive a Broadcom offer, a transitional role offer, or a severance package. VMware is aiming to notify employees of their status by mid to late October, but it could be later or after the acquisition closes, the email said. China’s growth is buried under great wall of debt

Most of these 3,000-plus entities were created by local governments during the 2008 crisis to skirt a central government ban on direct state borrowing. These vehicles had already accumulated 80 trillion yuan of liabilities at the end of 2022, according to analysts at Guosheng Securities. At a more optimistic 30% discount, the proceeds would jump to 55 trillion yuan, which would cover all outstanding interest-bearing debt. S&P analysts calculate that about 20 trillion yuan of LGFVs’ loans may be at risk of restructuring. If Xi won't boost property wholeheartedly and is not able to count on consumers, his efforts to revive China’s growth have to focus on smashing the great wall of local debt.

"We struggle to believe that the US at currently [circa] 60% of global market cap can continue its inexorable rise." The Shiller P/E ratio is a measure of how undervalued or overvalued the broader stock market is. Garthwaite attributed the overvalued nature of the market to the meteoric rise of technology stocks this year, especially the so-called Magnificent Seven, which includes Alphabet , Amazon , Apple , Meta , Microsoft , Nvidia and Tesla . This means the U.S. market is essentially overexposed to these seven stocks, which are seeing "extreme levels" for relative valuations, he said, in a note to clients that advised investors to underweight U.S. stocks. While Credit Suisse is still bullish on technology stocks, current high price-to-earnings multiples for the Magnificent Seven will be difficult to maintain, he said.
