“Just to both of us getting frustrated.”Therein lies the problem: Gentle parenting is proving to be too hard on many parents. One study published in July found that over 40% of self-identified gentle parents teeter toward burnout and self-doubt because of the pressure to meet parenting standards. A wave of think pieces called gentle parenting “too gentle” of a practice that required a parent to turn into a “self-renouncing, perpetually present humanoid.”The gentle parenting philosophy, said Pezalla, is largely a social media trend with no scholarship to back it up. Enter gentle parenting. In theory, gentle parenting has great values to apply to parenting practices — speak kindly and honor connections.

At trial Thursday, defense lawyer Andrew Baldwin asked the clerk, Kathy Shank, if his client was trying to "assist" the investigation. And he said the information Allen provided to authorities days later was marked as cleared when it shouldn’t have been. Allen provided a similar account, according to former Delphi Police Chief Steve Mullin, who conducted the interview, though Allen said he’d arrived at the trail at noon and left at 1:30 p.m. When Mullin showed Allen a photo of the “bridge guy,” the former chief testified, Allen responded: “If the picture was taken with the girl’s camera, there was no way it could be him,” Mullin testified. In his testimony, Liggett said it was the discovery of that bullet along with witness accounts that prompted Allen’s arrest.

Some advocates for gender-affirming care for youth say the report mischaracterizes the normal caution being taken by researchers to carefully present and interpret scientific data. “They’re in really good shape when they come in, and they’re in really good shape after two years,” Olson-Kennedy told the Times. Her description appears to contradict the baseline characteristics of the 95 study participants, which were published in 2022. Numerous studies have documented high rates of suicide and suicidal thoughts in transgender children and teenagers, and the physical changes of puberty can greatly increase the distress of feeling trapped in the wrong body. Nine children – about 4% of the sample – expressed regret over puberty blockers or hormones, and four discontinued their therapy.

CNN —President Joe Biden on Friday formally apologized to Native Americans for what he described as “one of the most horrific chapters in American history,” government-funded boarding schools that abused indigenous children and forced them to assimilate over a 150-year period. Three years ago, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, the first Native American to serve as a Cabinet secretary, commissioned the Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative to review the schools’ impacts on Native Americans. Their final report, issued this summer, found at least 973 Native American children died while attending these federal boarding schools. It’s the first time he has visited Indian Country as president and the first time in 10 years a sitting president has visited tribal lands. He paused his speech to say that the killing of people in Gaza “has to stop.”CNN’s Arlette Saenz contributed to this report.

Vince McMahon and the WWE have been accused of knowing about and failing to stop the sexual exploitation of young boys by a ringside announcer, in a lawsuit filed on behalf of five alleged victims Wednesday. NBC News has contacted the McMahons, TKO and the WWE for comment; none have so far responded or commented on the case publicly. The suit alleges that Phillips would abuse the claimants in his dressing room while filming it with a video camera. The suit accuses the McMahons of long knowing of Phillips’ “peculiar and unnatural interest” in young boys. "Thanks to the bravery of our clients, we finally have a chance to hold accountable those who allowed and enabled the open, rampant sexual abuse of these young boys," he said.

CNN —An outbreak of infections linked to McDonald’s Quarter Pounders has a lot of people across the United States concerned about their exposure to dangerous E. coli bacteria. The type of bacteria that has been implicated in this outbreak is E. coli O157:H7. E. coli, or Escherichia coli, is a common type of bacteria that lives in the intestines of people and animals, but some E. coli can make people sick. For E. coli O157:H7, antibiotics are controversial and are generally not recommended based on some evidence that they can actually increase the risk of hemolytic uremic syndrome,” he said. Thoroughly cooking meat to an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit throughout kills E. coli O157:H7, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

London CNN —Paddington Bear, probably fiction’s best-known Peruvian, has been granted a passport by authorities in his adoptive country of Britain. Rob Silva, co-producer of the upcoming film “Paddington in Peru,” revealed the existence of the British passport in an interview with Radio Times magazine published Monday. In the film, the third in the hit series, the little bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) travels home to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy. The movie is inspired by the work of late children’s author Michael Bond, who created the character of Paddington Bear in 1958 book “A Bear Called Paddington,” which follows the adventures of a small orphaned bear as he travels from Peru to the British capital. “Paddington in Peru” follows his return to his homeland to visit his Aunt Lucy (voiced by Imelda Staunton) after he is issued with a passport.

But taking protein supplements might not be addressing these issues, Clark said. Should teens take protein supplements? Based on previously published work, we hypothesized that Black patients would receive less multimodal analgesia than White patients, and we found that as well,” Faraday said. Having data on each patient’s self-reported level of pain – and whether there was any difference in the amount of pain among Black and White patients – would have added to the findings, Carrillo said. The researchers also found that, among those with the highest pain scores recorded, Black patients were significantly less likely to receive painkillers than White patients. Research published in 2007 in the Journal of the National Medical Association found that physicians are twice as likely to underestimate pain in Black patients compared with all other ethnicities combined. However, the data showed that White patients were twice as likely to be airlifted compared with Black patients and almost two times more likely compared with Hispanics and other races.

Dallas AP —Texas has sued a Dallas doctor over accusations of providing gender-affirming care to youths, marking one of the first times a state has sought to enforce recent bans driven by Republicans. The Texas law prevents transgender people under 18 from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers and transition surgeries, though surgical procedures are rarely performed on children. Children’s Health said in a statement that it “follows and adheres to all state health care laws.”At least 26 states have adopted laws restricting or banning gender-affirming medical care for transgender minors, and most of those states face lawsuits. The lawsuit comes just weeks before an election in which Republicans have used support of gender-affirming health care as a way to attack their opponents. Meta is ramping up its efforts to fight sextortion on Instagram with the launch of new features that are designed to help prevent young users from getting blackmailed into sharing nude photos. Starting Thursday, Instagram will automatically block follow requests sent to teenage users from accounts that display certain “scammy behaviors,” according to Meta. At a Senate online child safety hearing in January, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized to parents who said Instagram contributed to their children’s suicides or exploitation. Last month, Meta announced it will begin automatically placing all users under 18 into “teen accounts” with stricter privacy settings. “If they really want to promote meaningful change and online safety for kids and teens, they can stop opposing federal solutions like the Kids Online Safety Act,” Hinkle said.

The Food and Drug Administration recently approved a heart stent made specifically for infants and young children, a device that could help kids born with certain congenital heart defects avoid a series of open heart operations over their childhoods. In some cases, those defects are treated with stents, which prop open blood vessels, ensuring that blood can properly flow through them. “You can imagine that is less than ideal — they’re too big.”This means that as the child grows older and their blood vessels get bigger, stents have to be replaced, often with open heart surgery, Zahn said. “It’s not unusual to have kids who are going into middle school who’ve had four or five or even six open heart surgeries,” he said. Patients are usually able to go home about a day later, compared with around seven days for open heart surgery, including some days in the ICU.
