I tried 28 dips and spreads from Trader Joe's to see which would be the best for a Super Bowl party. As a regular connoisseur of Trader Joe's salsas and spreads, I decided to try some of the chain's most popular dips. VERDICT: I may not be an expert on Southern dips, but Trader Joe's pimento cheese option tasted like a winner. So it was unsurprising that Trader Joe's upgraded version of this familiar favorite turned out to be one of the standout dips I tried.

The study followed women who were in good health and between their 30s to 50s at the start of the study. AdvertisementThey found that women who ate more protein had notably lower rates of chronic diseases linked to aging, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and cognitive decline. Future studies could also help explore who could benefit since the demographics in this study were limited to women of a specific age group and profession. The results also suggest it's a good idea to start eating enough protein in your younger years before health issues arise.

A vegan diet differs from a vegetarian diet in that it eliminates not only animal flesh but dairy, eggs or any other ingredient derived from animals. In each pair, one twin was assigned a vegan diet, while the other was assigned an omnivore diet. “I feel like a lot of people who do a vegan diet think ‘Oh great, soda is vegan. Cutting back on eating meat and animal byproducts can be done slowly, bit by bit. "El Niño dampened rainfall in August, and it will also have a negative impact on September rainfall," said a senior official at the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. India is heading for its driest August in more than a century, weather department officials said earlier this month. The current monsoon has been uneven, with June rains 9% below average but July rains rebounding to 13% above average. The last four Septembers have seen above-average rains due to delayed withdrawal of the monsoon, he said.

This Hummus Holds Up After 800 Years
  + stars: | 2023-07-26 | by ( Ligaya Mishan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
You take chickpeas, hard and dry, and boil them until their skins loosen and they reveal themselves, tender little hulks with souls of butter. For much of human civilization, recipes were rarely written down, and of those that were, almost none have survived. You might recognize this as hummus. Notably absent from the recipe is garlic, despite its ubiquity in the cooking of the Arab world at the time. It’s not certain exactly when garlic was introduced to the dish: Nasrallah notes that there is no documentation of hummus recipes after the 14th century until the late 19th century.

Also on your table in 20 minutes and vegetable-based (though not vegetarian) is my recipe for a cherry tomato Caesar salad. Juicier and sweeter than the usual lettuce-only version, it’s got curls of Parmesan cheese and bits of anchovy providing a savory contrast. For dessert, how about a pale green basil Key lime pie? This one is more complex than the usual Key lime confection, with its especially fruity topping of macerated fresh strawberries.

While average monsoon rains are ordinarily good for Indian farmers, uneven distribution this year has created new worries. ERRATIC DISTRIBUTIONSome northern and north-western states have received excessive rains, while southern and eastern regions have been unusually dry. Only a third of the country has received average rainfall so far this season, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data. Meanwhile, about 34% of India has received deficient rains and 32% excessive rainfall, the data shows. Heavy rainfall has damaged newly planted rice crops in northern states such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, and many farmers may have to replant.

But it was the tart, earthy, tingly, subtly sweet notes provided by the sumac and Aleppo pepper that made such a lasting impression. Extra-virgin olive oil, yogurt and feta cheese are dietary mainstays, along with seasonal produce, legumes, whole grains and lean proteins. Made from deep-red Halaby chile peppers, Aleppo pepper is named for the Syrian city where it once grew in abundance. Dukkah, a blend of nuts, seeds and warm spices, makes a savory, crunchy topping on everything from soups to salads. Baharat is just one of a combination of warm spices that can punch up a chicken dish the Mediterranean way.
