This year the rate markets have come back to a more sensible reality after flirting with the la-la land of 7 cuts. And all the while, the more sensible equity markets have paid only fleeting attention to their rate brother's whining. As a guy who was brought up in the fixed income and currency markets, I'm increasingly finding more sensibility in the equity markets as I head into later stages of my career. Having five-year inflation expectations (as measured by the 5-year breakeven inflation rate) never ramp higher while cumulative inflation surged around 20% since January 2021 is a testament to his stalwart success. There have been no fumbles at the Fed so far during a protracted fight to ensure anchored inflation expectations and long term price stability.

Investors should look to energy stocks as stubborn inflation weighs on the stock market amid growing anxiety over whether the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates at all this year, according to Wolfe Research. "This inability to adequately tame inflation of course coincides with the reacceleration of Oil and Energy stocks over the past few months," analysts Rob Ginsberg and Read Harvey told clients in a Monday note. The Wolfe analysts said investors should take advantage of any near-term overbought consolidations and make a play for the stock to rise back into the mid $40s. Crude oil and the 10-year breakeven inflation rate, meanwhile, are both on the upswing from multiyear bases, according to the Wolfe analysts. "Needless to say, we want to keep playing Oil and Energy stocks to the upside over near – mid term, which should in turn put continued upward pressure on inflation," the Wolfe analysts said.

Freetrade reported adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) of £100,000 ($124,863) in the first quarter of 2024, according to unaudited financial statements shared with CNBC. Freetrade still generated a loss of £8.3 million in 2023, down from the £28.8 million loss it racked up the year before. "We defied difficult market conditions and delivered healthy growth in 2023 while dramatically reducing losses" in 2022, said Adam Dodds, CEO and founder of Freetrade. Net inflows totalled £130 million in the first quarter, too, as retail investor activity grew in response to resurgent markets last year. Equity markets saw serious drops in 2022 as a result of macroeconomic uncertainty and higher interest rates stoked by Russia's full-fledged invasion of Ukraine, which triggered a risk-off trade around the world.

"Elevated immigration has boosted labor force growth and, by extension, potential GDP growth," Goldman Sachs said. The bank boosted its 2024 GDP forecast in a note on Sunday, arguing that a jump in labor force growth via elevated immigration will drive the US economy higher. After soaring more than 200% last year, Nvidia shares have surged another 77% in 2024. "Make no mistake: buying RIVN is risky and a botched midyear re-tooling effort could yet surprise investors negatively," Potter wrote. Undocumented immigration has boosted the labor market, helping steer the US away from a recession, some experts say. Morgan Stanley's chief US economist has also recently cited undocumented immigration as a positive labor-market force. AdvertisementHere's a question that's been lurking beneath the stellar economic resilience in the US: how has the labor market stayed so strong? "It has boosted the labor force, it has boosted supply for labor, it has boosted job gains. Forget Tesla , the real competition in electric vehicles is low-cost Chinese automakers. Farley wants to be prepared even if the U.S. government were to step in to curtail Chinese automakers' access. Outlook Ford investors shouldn't be concerned in the short term since Chinese EV competitors won't enter the market overnight. To that end, a group of lawmakers has urged the White House to boost tariffs on Chinese vehicles and figure out a way to be "prepared to address the coming wave" of Chinese vehicles by way of U.S. other trading partners. The cost of production will become more efficient, resulting in a more competitive and hopefully profitable Ford EV product.

Ford CEO Jim Farley discussed a range of topics Thursday from hybrid and electric vehicles to how the automaker is dealing with international competitors. Ford Pro "If you're looking for the future of the automotive industry stop looking at FDS [full self-driving] and Tesla , look at Ford Pro," Farley said. The transformation of Pro, Farley said, has been a notable success for the company. "We always had a super successful Pro business … but there was no focus on it." Delivery Hero shares surged 11% Wednesday afternoon in European trading, extending gains from earlier in the day. Delivery Hero, one of Europe's largest food delivery apps, has faced recent pressure from investors over its ability to make a solid return on businesses it's wholly or partly acquired. Now, Delivery Hero is attempting to claw back from the brutal share price plunge, which brought the company's stock to its lowest level since 2022. That came after Delivery Hero announced a deal to divest its entire stake in the British food delivery company Deliveroo. Delivery Hero at the time denied the report and pushed back on speculation that a collapse in talks was imminent.

Icahn paid an average of $3.56 a share for his 33.6 million shares of the stock, according to the filing. Shares of JetBlue closed Monday at $6.07 a share before leaping to nearly $7 a share in morning trading. His purchases started on January 26, a week after a federal court blocked JetBlue’s proposed purchase of Spirit Airlines. Analysts had suggested that JetBlue was only interested in pursuing the deal, assuming it was allowed by the court, at a significantly lower price. JetBlue had been interested in buying Spirit as a way of getting both the aircraft and pilots it needs to expand.

Read previewLast August, Kim Kardashian posted on Instagram that she'd gotten a full-body MRI scan from the startup Prenuvo, which sparked a national conversation about the merits of preventive imaging. With Kardashian's help, the scans were finally making headlines — and healthtech startup Ezra felt their impact. "The day that Kim Kardashian got a scan, even though it wasn't an Ezra scan, our day-over-day revenue spiked," Ezra CEO and cofounder Emi Gal told Business Insider. Those tailwinds have propelled growth for Ezra, which partners with radiology clinics to perform full-body MRI scans. And, with Ezra's scans, that startup has "helped hundreds of people find cancer," he added.

On Wednesday, we started to see a little bit of the air taken out of today's bubble. We'll present a trade that wins if one of today's leading tech giants can't quite live up to the bubble hype. While almost all of today's tech and semiconductor companies generate significant revenue and profits — unlike the shells of the dot-com boom — the tech sector's performance has many parallels to the late 90's. Amazon looks stretched Looking at the short run, earnings for Amazon (AMZN) are on deck after the close on Thursday and at risk of a pullback with the rest of tech. Say the premium is $2 on that $195 strike heading into earnings and I am sitting on 100 shares (remember every options contract represents 100 shares). If, however, shares hit the $195 strike, then I am, as the seller of that option contract, obligated to sell my shares at $195. To implement this strategy, you would sell a put at a higher strike price and then purchase another put as insurance at a lower strike price. In this case, we would be laying out $2 (paying $3 to buy the $195 strike and collecting $1 by selling the $190 strike). There are two high-level factors that determine an options price, intrinsic value and time value.

With the Chinese equity markets lagging further behind, China has now launched fiscal and monetary policy to stabilize it. This provides an opportunity for a significant bounce in an oversold and undervalued stock. These types of chart setups can potentially lead to a significant rally over a short period of time. With an outlook that is head and shoulders above its competition, XPEV trades at a relative discount and presents significant upside.
