Airlines flooded the U.S. with flights this year, driving down fares particularly in the domestic market, where low-cost carriers concentrate, and weighing on carriers' revenue while costs have gone up. Spirit Airlines , JetBlue Airways and Frontier Airlines last posted annual profits in 2019, while larger carriers have returned to profitability. Now, some of those same airlines are dialing back their growth plans and deferring deliveries of new aircraft. Some airlines, like Frontier, have been active in sale-leasebacks, in which they sell planes to generate cash and lease them back.

CNN —Multiple Secret Service personnel from the Pittsburgh Field Office and one member of Donald Trump’s security detail involved in the advance planning for Trump’s July 13 rally have been reassigned to administrative duties and ordered to work from home, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN. The Secret Service has been under immense pressure from lawmakers to discipline or fire those involved in the preparation for the rally. “This was a Secret Service failure,” Rowe told reporters during a news conference earlier this month – a clear shift in tone from when the agency previously pointed blame on locals for their failure to keep eyes on would-be Trump assassin Thomas Crooks that day. “That roof should have been covered.”“The U.S. Secret Service is committed to investigating the decisions and actions of personnel related to the event in Butler, Pennsylvania and the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. “The U.S. Secret Service holds our personnel to the highest professional standards, and any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action.

This has not been the worst three weeks of Mr. Trump’s campaign. She was one of thousands of Montanans who had come out to Bobcat Stadium in Bozeman on Friday night to see Mr. Trump stump. “Trump has got it,” Ms. Whitney said breezily. In interview after interview, Mr. Trump’s supporters expressed a kind of cocky equanimity about the state of things. Or that Mr. Trump’s lead in the polls, and his fund-raising edge, had vanished.

Taylor told me that strength training now makes up 90% of her routine. Gyms are quickly becoming Gen Z's favorite hangout spot — but there's just one problem with the fitness boom. Chains like Planet Fitness rely on members never showing up; the gyms aren't built for Gen Z. Planet Fitness, the most popular gym franchise in the US, has on average 6,500 members per gym.

It’s a shame Gabino Iglesias’ ferocious new novel, “House of Bone and Rain,” couldn’t have been included as supplemental reading. “The Devil Takes You Home” (2022) was, like the two books that preceded it, a horror-noir thriller with elements of other genres thrown in. “House of Bone and Rain” ranges from vigilante thriller to supernatural horror to coming-of-age friendship saga with a strong dose of folklore fantasy. Dutton, who has dealt with sellers wanting out, says even property owners trying to offload the problem can lose money in the process. This way, if one unit loses money for whatever reason, the other units will continue to cash flow. In terms of considerations when thinking about the location of an investment property, Dutton noted that one of the biggest expenses buyers often miss, especially in places like South Florida, is property taxes. Another tax mistake buyers make is checking the current property tax and assuming they will pay the same amount.

CNN —Maybe a hug from a parent no longer solves problems for a teen as it did in their childhood. But when it comes to teenage mental health, adults can do a lot to help, according to new data. The survey found that 1 in 6 parents have a hard time comforting and communicating with their teen. ridvan_celik/E+/Getty ImagesThe worsening mental health and rising stakes of teens often puts parents in a difficult place. That scenario is why it’s important for parents and caregivers to have their own mental health resources, said Dr. Whitney Trotter, a doctor of nursing practice, psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner and registered dietitian in Austin, Texas.

If you plan to catch the tail end of the Whitney Biennial, there is an amuse-bouche nestled in the museum’s permanent collection that grounds the palate after that cerebral and political display. At only 20 works — 18 prints and two books under glass — “Wanda Gág’s World” is hardly a world at all. It’s a window into one. But the view is worth it: a graphic artist hypersensitive to printmaking and perception, and maybe miscast for the hundred years we’ve known of her. Born in Minnesota to Bohemian immigrants, Wanda Gág fulfilled her artist father’s dying words — “What Father began, Wanda will have to finish” — when she reached New York in 1917, at age 24, first to pursue fashion illustration and then children’s books.

JetBlue Airways shares jumped 20% on Tuesday after the airline posted a surprise profit and said it would defer another $3 billion in aircraft spending through 2029 to improve cash flow. The airline posted a $25 million profit for the second quarter, down nearly 82% from last year. JetBlue hasn't posted an annual profit since before the pandemic. It also is trying to better deploy its aircraft outfitted with premium seats like its Mint aircraft to maximize revenue. JetBlue says the changes will help it add $800 million to $900 million in pretax profit from 2025 through 2027.

In the days following the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, Cheatle has done no press conferences and very few interviews. “We would have never let him go out there if we thought there was a threat to him,” one source present with Trump told CNN. Cheatle is a nearly three-decade veteran of the Secret Service, serving in various field offices and vice presidential details including then-Vice President Joe Biden’s detail. Cheatle left the Secret Service in 2021 as the Assistant Director of the Office of Protective Operations - a role she held when the Secret Service scrambled to protect then-Vice President Mike Pence from rioters on January 6, 2021. “I’m very sorry to reach this conclusion: I have no confidence in the leadership of the United States Secret Service.

But one narrative has quickly taken hold in parts of the right-wing media ecosystem: The security failure was the result of workforce diversity initiatives and women working as Secret Service agents. Matt Walsh, a far-right media personality, wrote a series of posts on the social media platform X assailing the notion of women working as Secret Service agents. “There should not be any women in the Secret Service. “Female agents were also among those guarding Trump’s armored SUV as it prepared to depart the scene,” said Campbell. Associations that represent women in law enforcement reacted to the unfounded attacks on female agents with disappointment and alarm.

A Spirit Airlines aircraft undergoes operations in preparation for departure at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 12, 2024. Spirit Airlines said Tuesday it would post a wider-than-expected loss for the last quarter because of revenue that came in short of its expectations. Spirit expects to report an adjusted loss of between $160 million and $173 million for the three months ended June 30, compared with a previous estimate for a loss of no more than $145 million. Spirit said non-ticket revenue, which accounts for the myriad fees long associated with its rock-bottom fares, came in "several dollars lower than anticipated" per passenger. "As the Company progresses on its transformation strategy, it anticipates that over time it will be able to drive improvement in total revenue per passenger segment," Spirit said.
