CNN —Millions of American homeowners could see insurance rates surge in the coming years in part due to worsening climate disasters, new data shows. It’s another alarming sign for the future of America’s homeowners’ insurance market. “We’re still kind of at the forefront of the insurance industry pricing in climate risk into the real estate market,” Porter told CNN. Premiums are at risk of surging to a lesser extent in cities across the country, First Street data shows. “I know where the places are where people are dropping their insurance — it’s Florida, Louisiana, California and Colorado,” Bach told CNN.

Pat Robertson, a Baptist minister with a passion for politics who marshaled Christian conservatives into a powerful constituency that helped Republicans capture both houses of Congress in 1994, died on Thursday at his home in Virginia Beach, Va. His death was announced by the Christian Broadcasting Network, which Mr. Robertson founded in 1960. Mr. Robertson built an entrepreneurial empire based on his Christian faith, encompassing a university, a law school, a cable channel with broad reach, and more. The loss did not dampen his political fervor; he went on to found the Christian Coalition, which stoked the conservative faith-based political resurgence of the 1990s and beyond. But he was also given to statements that his detractors saw as outlandishly wrongheaded and dangerously incendiary.

TOKYO, April 27 (Reuters) - Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin did not rule out a run for president in 2024, saying on Thursday that he was "humbled" by the question of whether he would seek the Republican nomination. Youngkin was in Japan as part of an Asian trip, including stops in Taiwan and South Korea, to promote his state. Although 2023 is expected to remain sluggish, GE Renewable Energy, Siemens Energy and Vestas Wind Systems, the leading makers of wind turbines — outside of China, which has built the world's largest wind energy infrastructure — and their suppliers are banking on growth over the next decade, particularly in the nascent offshore wind niche. Comparatively, the U.S. offshore wind industry is just ramping up after years of delays in permitting, environmental approvals and power purchasing agreements with utilities that buy wind energy.
U.S. rent prices decreased by 0.25% from January to February 2023, according to the latest data from rental listings site Rent.com. While it's a smaller decrease than in previous months, it brings the U.S. monthly average rent price down to $1,937 — lower than its August 2022 peak of $2,053. Even with the recent dip in prices, year-over-year U.S. rent prices are still up 1.7% as of February. However, that's a remarkable climb down considering that year-over-year rent growth was double digits for most of 2022. Raleigh, North Carolina, has seen the most growth, with a year-over-year rent price increase of 19% as of February, according to Rent.com.
Biden calls for tax on the wealthy to extend Medicare funding
  + stars: | 2023-03-08 | by ( Kate Dore | Cfp | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
President Joe Biden delivers remarks on his plan to protect Americans access to affordable health care in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Feb. 28, 2023. President Joe Biden this week called for higher taxes on wealthy Americans to boost Medicare as part of his 2024 budget, aiming to help fund the program for at least 25 years. The plan would increase the net investment income tax from 3.8% to 5% for earnings of more than $400,000, including regular income, capital gains and so-called pass-through business income, which flows to individual tax returns, according to the White House. Enacted through the Affordable Care Act, the net investment income tax currently applies to earnings above $200,000 for single filers and $250,000 for married couples filing together. "By asking those with the highest incomes to contribute modestly more, we can keep the Medicare program strong for decades to come."
Biden plans to roll out the tax-and-spending plans at a Philadelphia union hall, a venue in a competitive battleground state that will highlight the president's worker-centric political pitch in the weeks running up to his expected announcement of a 2024 re-election bid. Biden is also planning to revive his plans to raise taxes on billionaires and to fund initiatives like a child tax credit. A proposal to raise payroll taxes on very high-income people is also on the table. Biden aides regard union backing as well as success in Pennsylvania as critical to any re-election bid by Biden. Presidential budget roll-outs in other years are done at the White House and with no special events drawing attention to them.
Joe Biden’s Insulin Fictions

The drug maker Eli Lilly said Wednesday that it will cut the sticker price of some insulin products by 70%, and Democrats are taking a victory lap. Well, yes, government coercion can work. “Insulin has been around for 100 years,” President Biden said Tuesday in Virginia Beach, and he says the drug costs $10 to make. “But you’ve been paying three, four, five hundred dollars a month for that. Not anymore.” The Inflation Reduction Act capped insulin out-of-pocket costs at $35 a month for Medicare, and Mr. Biden wants to extend his price control on insulin into private insurance markets.
