Cancer drains individuals of their physical, emotional, and financial health. In a study from the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, nearly half of cancer patients and survivors reported being extraordinarily burdened by medical debt. Financial hardship caused by cancer can also contribute to "financial toxicity," wherein the cost of treatment forces individuals to make tradeoffs that impact their chances of survival. Not only does financial toxicity of cancer care affect the individual, it can also negatively impact their employer. Some may not be aware they're eligible for screening, and stigma and fear associated with cancer screening hinders some people from seeking care.

Lahore, Pakistan AP —Pakistani police fired tear gas and charged at student protesters who ransacked a college building Thursday, as anger spread over an alleged on-campus rape, prompting the government to shut schools, colleges and universities for two days. Tensions have been high on college campuses since reports of the alleged rape in the eastern city of Lahore spread on social media, and protests have broken out in four cities. Thursday’s violence started when hundreds of students demonstrated outside a campus in the city of Rawalpindi in Punjab province. They also arrested a man who is accused of spreading misinformation on social media about the alleged rape and inciting students to violence. But Punjab police on Thursday urged people to share any information about the alleged rape.

Airbus to cut up to 2,500 jobs in defense and space

A logo sits on display outside the Airbus wing assembly factory in Broughton, U.K.Airbus announced plans on Wednesday to cut up to 2,500 jobs in its Defence and Space division, citing a "complex business environment" especially in loss-making satellites. It has been hit by 1.5 billion euros ($1.63 billion) of charges in space systems in recent quarters, led by the high-tech OneSat project, and delays and rising costs in defense. The job cuts, first reported by French news agency AFP, come on top of a more than year-long efficiency review in the defense and space business, code-named ATOM. Airbus has been drawing up specific turnaround plans for its struggling Space Systems business without waiting for the outcome of recent satellite consolidation talks that include Italy's Leonardo as well as France's Thales. Group CEO Guillaume Faury said earlier this year that Airbus was looking at opportunities to create scale in defense, space and particularly satellites where traditional players have been heavily disrupted by the success of new constellations.

But therapists have found that couples who clearly express their appreciation and empathy for one another have longer lasting unions. "If you and your partner regularly use these phrases, it's a sign that you're already a mentally strong couple," she says. "And if you don't yet, you can start implementing them and find that you'll grow stronger both individually and as a unit." Here are six phrases successful couples use, according to relationships therapists. Saying, "It's understandable you feel that way," can be reassuring and show you have empathy, Morin says.

The trio of blue wall states offer promise to Vice President Harris and former President Trump. She's worked to rally union workers — a key voting bloc — around her campaign. But Loge also pointed to a newly-released Emerson College poll, which showed that Harris' union support varied by state. In the Quinnipiac poll, Michigan voters gave Trump an eight-point edge (53% to 45%) on the economy. And she's aiming to win over voters — especially union workers — in smaller cities where Trump found success in 2016.

"I Do (I Think)," explores essential conversations of marriage for a Gen Z and millennial audience. When I grew up and started hearing about married couples who had separate finances and alternated who paid for dinner, I found it weird at best and unsettling at worst. My view on married couples with separate finances changedNow that I'm older, I see it all differently. Different states also have different levels of protection for married couples who divorce, which can impact what extra steps you feel you do or don't need to take. I'm not financially savvy and I'm also hyperaware that money conversations can be deeply emotional in ways we aren't always equipped to handle.

One measure on the ballot in New York state this November means two very different things to its supporters and its opponents. Advocates of the measure argue that it is simply a way to codify New Yorkers’ right to reproductive care. The Coalition to Protect Kids-NY has taken to calling the measure the “Parent Replacement Act.” The group argues that the measure would be used to strip rights from parents and push transgender rights for minors, in particular. The coalition's website includes no articles or other information about the ballot measure seeking to codify a right to abortion. Hochul’s office has helped lead the state’s Democratic Party to spend over $1 million to advertise in favor of the measure, including local ads, campaign yard signs and mailers.

The Democratic National Committee has launched an "informational campaign" that includes bilingual billboards across the city ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris’ Univision town hall in Las Vegas on Thursday night. The majority of U.S. labor unions have endorsed Harris though many union members support Trump. “Nevada’s Latino and union voters have the power to decide who wins the Silver State in November,” DNC spokesperson Marco Frieri said in a statement. Your employer may start covering weight-loss drugs soon

A growing number of employers are considering covering the blockbuster weight-loss drugs, several surveys show. Roughly the same share say they are somewhat or very likely to begin covering these medications for weight loss within the next 12 months, according to KFF’s annual Employer Health Benefits Survey. But only 18% of firms in KFF’s survey, which includes those with 200 or more employees, cover GLP-1 drugs primarily for weight loss. Even employers that provide coverage for anti-obesity drugs often put up guardrails, such as requiring employees to receive prior authorization or to try other weight-loss methods first. Outpatient drug costs are expected to climb 11.4% next year, surpassing the 8% increase projected for medical plan costs, according to Segal’s most recent survey.

New York CNN —The deal reached Thursday evening that ended a strike by 50,000 portworkers has a lot of winners and few if any losers. But that wage deal stopped what could have become the most disruptive US strike in decades had it lasted weeks or months. The strike halted the flow of imports and exports across dozens of ports, what could have been a massive blow had the strike continued. Not that this was the deal that the the United States Maritime Alliance, the group that negotiates on behalf of ship lines, terminal operators and ports, wanted. But it was the one they could settle for after the Biden administration made clear it wasn’t going to intervene.
