Trump shrugged "yes" through a crippling series of questions about bank docs he personally signed. But behind his many tantrums and tangents (mentions of George Washington and windmills among them), Trump suffered, legally speaking, on that witness stand. The bank loan documents all bore his signature, Trump confirmed, not that this could be disputed, given the characteristic Sharpie zigzags on the signatory pages. Yes, Trump answered again and again. Of course, Trump being Trump, there were tangents and tantrums mixed in.

Ivanka Trump has been subpoenaed to testify in her dad's ongoing civil fraud trial in New York. AdvertisementAdvertisementIvanka Trump is fighting hard against being forced to testify against her father and brothers in the ongoing Trump civil fraud trial in New York. The objection, in court papers filed late Thursday, calls the New York Attorney General's Office subpoena overly broad. It also accuses the AG's office of botching how it served Ivanka Trump with her subpoena, alleging a technical foul her lawyer says should invalidate her obligation to testify. James alleges that Trump and his company used fraudulently exaggerated net-worth statements in winning favorable interest rates and other benefits from lenders, particularly Deutsche Bank, for which Ivanka Trump was her father's primary point-woman.

Trump Tower uses millions of gallons of Chicago River water a day to heat and cool its 98 floors. But unlike many other US cities, much of DC's downtown office space is controlled by a single landlord: the federal government. There are three major issues when it comes to empty federal building space, Marroni said. Many congressional Republicans have also demanded that the Biden administration both restrict telework and get rid of unused office space. The White House Office of Management and Budget asked federal agencies in April to "substantially increase meaningful in-person work" by limiting telework. But there are concerns — including from employee unions — that restricting remote work could hurt the recruitment and retention of federal workers.

The Supreme Court will weigh in a case examining issues surrounding the Trump International Hotel that formerly operated in the Old Post Office on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. Photo: Valerie Plesch/Bloomberg NewsWASHINGTON—The Supreme Court said Monday it would decide whether members of Congress can sue to obtain agency records about former President Donald Trump’s now-ended deal to operate a Trump International Hotel in a landmark Washington building owned by the federal government. Separately, the justices said they would review a lower-court finding that a South Carolina congressional district is an illegal racial gerrymander and must be redrawn. Both cases will be argued in the court’s next term, which begins in October.
The opulent hotel with a soaring clock tower, located on Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and the U.S. Capitol, opened shortly before Trump was elected in 2016. The hotel became a gathering spot for Trump supporters, lobbyists and foreign dignitaries, who Democrats and watchdog groups complained could patronize the hotel in order to curry favor with Trump when he was in office. Lawsuits accused Trump of violating the U.S. Constitution's anti-corruption provisions by maintaining ownership of his businesses including the Washington hotel while in office. The justices ordered those cases dismissed because they became moot with Trump leaving office in 2021 after his election loss to Biden, a Democrat. Some of the lawmakers who sued are no longer part of the committee while some others are no longer in Congress.
Former President Donald Trump is seeking to move his criminal case from New York state court to federal court, his attorneys said during a hearing on Thursday. Trump's lawyers will seek the venue change sometime later Thursday, attorney Todd Blanche said towards the end of the hearing. During the hearing, attorneys for the Manhattan district attorney's office and Trump reiterated previous arguments regarding the proposed protective order. Trump's attorneys slammed the proposed protective order as "extremely restrictive" and argued that it infringes on their client's right to free speech. NBC News and other outlets oppose the prosecutor's proposed protective order to limit the public use of evidence ahead of trial, which includes potentially requiring the sealing or redaction of certain items.

REUTERS/Carlo AllegriApril 11 (Reuters) - A Fox Corp (FOXA.O) shareholder sued Chairman Rupert Murdoch and four other board members on Tuesday, saying they failed to stop Fox News from reporting falsehoods about the 2020 U.S. presidential election that damaged its credibility and prompted lawsuits. The lawsuit seeks damages for the company from Rupert Murdoch, his son and Fox Chief Executive Lachlan Murdoch, and fellow directors Chase Carey, Roland Hernandez and Jacques Nasser. Fox has argued that election-rigging claims by Trump and his lawyers were inherently newsworthy and protected by legal doctrines concerning press freedom. The shareholder lawsuit cited filings in the Dominion lawsuit, which said Murdoch had acknowledged under questioning from Dominion lawyers that some Fox hosts had "endorsed" the idea that the election was stolen.

Architecture critic Kate Wagner says Trump's plan to build "freedom cities" is nothing new. There's a whole eco-system of classical architecture proponents on Twitter with Roman statues as their avatars who decry modernism. The order made classical architecture — think columns, marble, symmetry — the preferred style for federal buildings. Wagner says Trump's embrace of classical architecture echoes the right-wing war on modernism that began in the 1980s. "For some reason, there also emerged alongside of those advocates a group of people who started to make statements that people neurologically prefer classical architecture."
