In today’s edition, senior national political reporter Jonathan Allen explains why Democrats need to retool their economic message during Donald Trump's second term. Plus, senior national politics reporter Matt Dixon writes that the battle to succeed Trump in four years is already underway. How Trump broke both parties — and where Democrats go from hereBy Jonathan AllenOver the course of the last decade, President-elect Donald Trump broke both national political parties. Before Trump, Democrats nominated — and the country twice elected — Barack Obama, a candidate who ran against leaders that walked the country into forever wars and a finance-and-housing crisis that nearly toppled the economy. Harris’ economic policy offerings were largely expansions of Biden proposals, such as more generous homebuyer and child tax credits than he called for.

Our NFL writers addressed these topics and more in making one prediction for every team heading into the season’s second half. The fourth-year back is on pace to finish with 1,256 yards, which would be the fourth-highest total in team history. Every other NFL team has put a player in at least one of those categories during that stretch — and most teams have checked both boxes. Minnesota has one of the most productive defenses in the NFL and an offense loaded at the skill positions. And the Eagles have managed to win games despite bad luck and bad decisions.

The clock is ticking on getting Ukraine that support before Trump takes office. Trump's return to the White House could threaten US support for Ukraine. AdvertisementPresident-elect Donald Trump will be returning to the White House, and that means the clock is now ticking on getting billions of dollars in US aid to Ukraine. AdvertisementA Pentagon spokesperson told Business Insider it's on track to get the Ukraine aid out before mid-January, but it'll be a heavy lift. Kyiv has repeatedly asked the Biden administration to do so, but the White House has maintained the position that such action would be escalatory.

watch nowRepublican presidential nominee Donald Trump will defeat his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris, and return to the White House for another four years, NBC News projects. At 78, he is the oldest person ever to win a U.S. presidential election. Trump's win denies Harris, the vice president, what would have been her own historic milestone: becoming the first woman president of the United States. Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris speaks at a campaign event at the Erie Insurance Arena in Erie, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 14, 2024. It remains to be seen to what extent Trump's presidential agenda will resemble the sum of his many claims as a candidate.

After playing to the coasts, Hollywood is leaning toward faith and family-based shows and films. The Prime Video series will be the first to come out of Amazon's deal with The Wonder Project, a Christian-focused production company, for faith-based films and TV shows. After playing to the coasts with shows that embraced progressive themes, Hollywood is leaning into broadly appealing fare. That shift has included a combination of undeniably faith-based, conservative-themed, and family-aimed entertainment, agents, producers, and industry experts say. "Conservative, faith-based, family, is not a bad place to look," Thompson said.

Target released an update to its app to curb a shopper behavior workers call the "double tap." Workers previously said drive-up order customers caused chaos by waiting until arrival to tap a button saying they were en route. Whether by accident or on purpose, hundreds of Target drive-up customers using the retailer's mobile app arrive each day in the stores' parking lots before hitting the "I'm on my way" button. Now, following a mobile app released last week, shoppers will no longer be able to "double-tap" their drive-up orders. The company confirmed the change to Business Insider and said it continues to look for ways to improve the app for both workers and customers.

Courtesy of 3MTo use it, you download a phone app, point Pestiscand at the fruit or vegetable, and tap the scan button, Subash told Business Insider. Holger Leue/Getty ImagesEven though washing produce may not remove all pesticides, it's one of the best ways to reduce your exposure, de Montagnac said. She recommends washing for 15 to 60 seconds depending on the produce — for produce that typically contains a lot of pesticides, wash longer.

The ETF industry is gearing up for some potentially seismic changes in 2025 and beyond. Policy changes from the SEC are hard to predict, but the ETF industry appears to sense an opening to push new types of products. Private credit funds One big area of focus for the ETF industry is how to tap into the private credit boom that has become a key part of the U.S. financial system. Fund issuers will need the SEC to bless new types of constructions in order to get a private credit fund approved. "For the most part, private credit is an investment that is limited to sophisticated investors and not retail investors," said Brian Murphy, a partner at law firm Stradley Ronon.

Some pediatricians are stunned by the possibility that vaccines proven to save kids’ lives could be banned in a second Trump administration. “I have watched a child die in the hospital of a vaccine-preventable illness because her parents refused to vaccinate her. Many parents today have not witnessed that — yet,” said Dr. Catherine Ohmstede, a pediatrician at Novant Health in Charlotte, North Carolina. However, kindergarten vaccination rates had been falling in the U.S. for years before Trump embraced Kennedy and his anti-vaccine views. Amy Pisani, CEO of the nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, Vaccinate Your Family, said she worries about the outcomes of the latest anti-vaccine sentiments.

The Summary For years, a special mud has been rubbed on every baseball before every major league game to make them less slippery. Called Lena Blackburne Baseball Rubbing Mud, it comes from a single source: a secret spot along the banks of a tributary of the Delaware River. The magic mud is applied to every ball used in Major League Baseball, including in this year’s World Series. The authors concluded that any attempt to create a synthetic substance to replace the mud — something Major League Baseball has explored — would be foolish. A sign for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) sign is displayed inside central bank's headquarters in Mumbai, India. The Reserve Bank of India would be able to tap its large foreign exchange reserves to defend the domestic currency in the event of global market volatility and an outflow of foreign funds, the sources said. There has been a record outflow of more than $10 billion in foreign funds from India stocks, while foreigners pulled $700 million from the debt market. Central bank officials have not committed to or signaled any timing for a rate cut. China's stimulus efforts, which could intensify if U.S. tariffs further hurt its economy, have been a factor driving foreign funds out of India and other emerging markets into China.

U.S. homeowners are sitting on a record amount of equity, but higher interest rates over the past two years have made them reluctant to tap into it. While mortgage rates don't exactly follow the Fed's rate, home equity lines of credit, or HELOCs, are tied to it. "Over the past 10 quarters homeowners have extracted $476B in equity, exactly half the extraction we'd expect to see under more normal circumstances. Homeowners tend to use equity for home repairs, renovation projects and large expenses, such as college tuition. More supply is coming on the market, and primary mortgage rates are higher than they were over the summer.

But that hasn’t stopped abortion rights supporters from pushing for votes up and down the ballot. Across the South, supporters of abortion rights are using the issue to motivate voters. Although Texas does not have a statewide referendum on abortion, Rep. Colin Allred's Senate campaign has galvanized abortion rights supporters. It’s easier for Democrats to campaign on the issue, she said, because their party is more united in favor of abortion rights than Republicans are in opposition. That switch proved pivotal in passing the state’s abortion ban.

Election bets were approved legally just weeks ago, as the 2024 race headed into its home sprint. The ongoing legal wrangling could still lead to a shutdown of U.S. election betting markets, but not until after the 2024 vote. The CFTC permits only U.S. residents to use the newly opened election betting markets, meaning many bettors on the platforms are also potential voters. Nonetheless, Adam Cochran, founder of venture capital fund Cinneamhain Ventures, says he worries about how voters perceive election betting odds. Mansour acknowledged it’s a “fair concern” that the general public might mistakenly see betting odds as the size of a candidate’s lead.
