CNN —Almost three decades ago, Richard Hays, a United Methodist minister and the soon-to-be dean of Duke Divinity School, wrote what quickly became the go-to traditionalist Christian argument against same-sex marriage. Fuller Theological Seminary, where Christopher Hays is a professor, also demands agreement with a faith statement that opposes same-sex marriage. Even as support for same-sex marriage has plateaued in the last few years, recent surveys from Gallup find that more than one in five Gen Z Americans identify as LGBTQ, and nearly 90% of Americans under 30 years old support same-sex marriage. The reversal from Hays certainly will not settle the debate among Christians when it comes from same-sex marriage. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which manages about $925 billion in assets, reported a $36.8 billion profit for 2023, according to Reuters. This isn't the first time Washington has toyed with the idea of a sovereign wealth fund. Last March, a group of bipartisan lawmakers led by Sen. Angus King and Sen. Bill Cassidy began discussing a sovereign wealth fund to pay for Social Security. The White House's interest in a sovereign wealth fund stems partly from its desire to compete with China, which has multiple state-owned funds itself.

CNN —The deep landslides beneath the multimillion-dollar homes in Rancho Palos Verdes moved at an almost glacial pace, until they didn’t. This affluent coastal city in Southern California, around 30 miles south of Los Angeles, has long enticed people with its Pacific Ocean views and lush greenery. This February, an atmospheric river dumped record amounts of rain across southern California, triggering hundreds of mudslides and leaving at least nine people dead. In July, a landslide triggered by heavy monsoon rains in India’s southern state of Kerala killed at least 150 people. In Southern California, “people wanted to pretend they lived in the tropics,” he said, “and planted a lot of landscaping that required lots of watering.”Deforestation is another factor.

The Elms was built in 1901 for Gilded Age coal tycoon Edward Julius Berwind and his wife, Sarah Herminie Berwind. He and Sarah Berwind did not have any children. After his wife's death, Edward Berwind enlisted his sister, Julia Berwind, to act as the hostess at his homes in Newport and New York City. He died in 1936, and Julia Berwind spent summers at The Elms until her death in 1961. The following year, the Preservation Society of Newport County purchased The Elms and continues to maintain the property as a museum.

We'd been too overwhelmed to track down summer camps and get on registration wait lists, and spots were starting to fill up. AdvertisementNo summer camp, no formal childcare at all.
